EA Manager: Black Ops II Looks “Tired”

'snicker'

The EA/Activision battle has already started, and less than 24 hours after Call of Duty: Black Ops II was announced. Last year, the two companies got a little snarky concerning the Modern Warfare 3 / Battlefield 3 competition and this year, EA will present us with Medal of Honor: Warfighter .

So we might as well get a jump on the pot shots, yes? We point you in the direction of EA global product manager Kevin O'Leary's Twitter page , where he pokes a little fun at the Black Ops II debut trailer :

"Poor Black Ops II, you look tired, you should take a year off and rest."

Now, it's anyone's guess as to why O'Leary thinks the game looks "tired." It could be due to the visuals in the trailer, which might be evidence of that aging engine, or maybe he just wanted to say it 'cuz he thinks the entire franchise is "tired." Either way, it's always fun to watch the jabs fly. Admittedly, EA has done more of the punching in the past, as Activision executives are usually content to just talk about CoD sales, but maybe somebody will respond this time…

Haters Gone Hate !!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets wait for the sales figures between the two and we'll see whose Tired of Losing !

lmao Ben i swear you do this on purpose because there are so many people who HATE COD here but you always post stuff like this to get all these Half-@$$ Gamers amped up. COD always has the Most Comments on every thread, but mainly from people who dont like the game or just pure Hate it for whatever reason but they still watch our trailers and still want to know about the game, even when they dont play it.

SO WHAT ITS NOT A NEW ENGINE, YOUR NOT GONNA BUY IT ANYWAY JUST stfu and play what you like and dont worry about anybody else.

Which begs the the Question why are you in this thread ???? O because your a troll and nobody comments in the games you like lol

Geeze buddy… relax.

If a person of any degree of authority in the gaming world speaks publically like this, it constitutes news.

I would agree with you about Ben if he had given the last 3 CoD's low scores…

But….

HOTSHELLZ: Two things- One, calm the hell down and stop insulting people. Two, if you're indicative of the typical Call of Duty player, you're not exactly giving that group of fans a good name.

It's called news. We're hardly the only source to mention it. Nobody is "hating" on anything. Now quiet down.

Now here is something you don't see everyday… an immature CoD player. There is a reason why true gamers avoid CoD like the plague, kiddo. It's you.

It looks tired, and I get tired looking at it.

I agree, it is fun to watch the fisticuffs. And yeah it looks tired in the engine and most importantly instead of innovating in an area that could stand some new artistic and storytelling direction (The role of black ops in current warfare) they just dropped it and grafted the old game onto a future setting, effectively jingling their keys in front of the face of those too excitable to notice anything else.

I agree with the guy, but someone that works at EA has no business talking about games that look tired and need a year off.

He should have taken his "hater" meds this morning.

…and while I do agree with him somewhat, it isn't like EA is producing something marginally better.

I'm sorry but have you played the last medal of honor? It almost left me in tears. I think everyone should play through the campaign once in their lives. I also hope the next one will stick to that level.

Medal of Honor hands down has the best FPS campaign ever IMO. Having a brother who is Tier1 for a living the game did bring me to tears.

MoH's campaign was indeed excellent, but the online was a garbled mess (modes were fine, but party system was broken, no private rooms (DICE seems to think it's standard practice to charge for something most other games provide for free), and matchmaking was iffy.

Anyways, my 2 cents is that they should all focus on their own games – all this "he says/she says" rubbish is terribly fourth grade. I prefer people with higher levels of emotional maturity marketing games m'self ;).

I could use a break from COD as well. Now we have to deal with the marketing from here on out too. I do think Rob Riggle was funny though but probably won't be used by Treyarch.

This EA guy could also mean 'tired' in the sense that he WISHES they would take a year off so EA could sell some more games. That will be their fall back comment to save face.

Stay Classy PSX…

I agree. If they took some time off to revamp the engine, and come up with some innovative features/story aspects, I might actually be interested in a CoD game for the first time since the first Modern Warfare. It seems instead they're interested in slapping on a fresh coat of paint every year and selling it for full price again. But hey, it sells to the masses so I can't say I entirely blame them…

Im not an graphics whore so it doesnt looks tired to me. COD has kicked every FPS ass every year since COD 4 in SALES, and it doesnt looks like its gonna change this year. After Activision and Trey gets done making all this cash from this "tired" game, they will get some rest, and get right back to work. Success!

I agree with the sales, but it will be interesting to see how those 11 million odd buyers react to the game once they have it.

I'm not convinced of that, something is in the air with Cod this year.

Might see a few disgruntled fans. Might see a few more jump on board. I don't think we'll see much change.

The only thing I see differently is MW vs BO. There's two sides to this franchise now.

I'm with World on this one about the 'in the air' thing. CoD elite didn't help matters either. Even online people can be heard complaining. Something I've never heard in the past entries. At least not very often.

Sorry EA and ActiVison but the only FPS i'm getting this year is Aliens:colonial marines, providing it releases in the next 7 months of course.

Just sounds like classic negative campaigning to me. It's annoying enough when politicians do it. lol
Still, perhaps having their flaws pointed out will spark some action towards betterment. Unlikely but we can hope for something good to come of it.

Yes the game looks "Tired" but i know sales will show something different. I can only hope the other AAA games coming out will level the playing field.

Hey EA, how about taking just a little time and patching/fixing the same glitches in the NHL series, year after year it's glitch city.

To me… Although i love battlefield to death… Military shooters in general are looking/getting tired. It's like it isn't great unless it's a military shooter. I like playing them but after 6 or 7 years of straight up military shooters as far as fps's go with a little bit of resistance/killzone/bioshock sprinkled in. I'm beginning to feel tired of all of them except bioshock and resistance. I just with they would come out with more shooters that are different. Not the same ol forumula.

Takes a break from the Dust 514 Beta.

Agrees that Call of Noob looks tired, boreing and not worth a purchase at full price.
Few maps, lack of variety, same tired old guns…..bah!!

goes back to playing a much BETTER shooter called Dust 514.

And the kicker is its free to download and free to play with.
Like discovering a sex starved MILF.

And the hating between cod and battlefield/moh starts.
I for one am a fan of cod battlefield and moh, I have been buying cod since cod3 and battlefield since bad company.
Cod got really old after mw2 and the map packs are a ripoff so i never buy them. mw1 was awesome but everything after that was just more of the same on a different location. as for the multiplayer, it has improved with each new entry but after i gave battlefield 3 a chance i never looked back to mw3. if you like huge team based maps with vehicles then battlefield 3 is for you. but if you like small maps filled with campers and a cheap death right around the corner then cod is for you.
I see black ops 2 improving on the multiplayer but as far as the campaign, it will just be more of the same that we have seen for the last 5 entries.

If there is dedicated servers i can care less about a new engine. Game looks good enough and runs 60fps. I will be disapointed if dedicated servers arent implemented.

Actually, based on that screen shot in this article, I think I've already played a higher res and more colorful version of this game in Uncharted 3.

The graphics sure looked bad in the trailer. I'm sure that is not the finished product but man oh man did they look bad. I actually think the story behind this one looks interesting and I think I will rent it to play out the SP portion. I have BF3 so I have no need for the COD MP. Kinda funny MW1 is what got me into playing FPS MP this generation

Activision don't need to respond – its EA that need COD fans to buy MOH Warfighter as well – and the best way to keep their game in the limelight is to attach it to BLOPS 2 as its 'rival' – it worked with BF3 – most MW3 buddies of mine bought both.

If MOH Warfighter can do 1/2 the sales of BLOPS 2 then EA's plan will have worked very nicely

if theres anything that needs a rest its EAs fat mouth!
this is EXACTLY why they were voted worst company a few weeks ago.
sigh, what ever happened to professionalism?
if i was to say this to a competitive company of ours id be fired so fast my head would create a new gravitational field!
EA are doing a dam good job of making me not want to buy anymore of there games just out of principle!
in fact because of this im cancelling my preorder of MoH tomorrow and putting it on black ops.
i dont give my money to 2 year old spoiled brats!

You can only remake the same games so many times before people are downright sick of them… Which CoD is constant copys of older versions, only difference is new places.. Multiplayer gets boring real fast, especially now that its riddled with cheating idiots.

I used to like CoD during MW1 and partial 2. But ive always been sided with Socom and Battlefeild.

i know – everybody is real sick of it – nobody just wants to buy it anymore – and the multiplayer is so boring nobody is willing to buy the map packs either.

no really

Eh, I wouldn't call this news, it sounds more more like schoolgirl gossip from EA to me than anything. EA just lost some more points from me, we all look down on fanboyism yet we don't hold companies to the same standard. Yes I know mouthing off like this is common place in the business world but I for one am only tired of such tactics, what are we in middle school still? Its like that crap fried chicken commercial that has people going 'I know what good is'…. sure they do. I am not tired of COD thanks to skipping MW3 and to be honest I think because of that Black Ops 2 is looking pretty good to me about now. All I know is I am ready to take down more zombies, stop trying so hard EA.
