WRC3 Confirmed, To Boast New Game And Graphics Engine

All you rally racing buffs, mark your calendars.

Today, Milestone has confirmed that WRC 3World Rally Championship 3 – will launch in October 2012 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and yes, even the PlayStation Vita.

The third installment "marks a radical departure from the previous titles" and implements a new graphics and game engine, which was developed in-house. The game will also feature all the rallies in the 2012 WRC calendar, which means it should have the correct authentic atmosphere.

That new graphics engine, called the "Spikengine, allows the developers to "accurately model lighting, particle effects and other real-world characteristics to create an in-game virtual reality." Fans can also expect improved crowd effects, rebuilt stages and new cinematic introductions for each stage. Over 50 official WRC teams are included, as well as Class 2 and Class 3 series, and even Super Special Stages.

As far as rally games go, this could be one of the definitive titles of the generation. Let's just hope all these advancements impress the critics, because WRC 2 had a very lukewarm reception.
