Final Fantasy, Prada Showcase Fashions For Spring/Summer

Bet you didn't see this one coming.

If you stroll on over to the Square Enix Members website, you will find the characters of Final Fantasy XIII-2 posing in all sorts of stylish duds. Why? Because it's part of a collaboration between video games and the fashion world, and Lightning, Noel, Snow, Sazh and Hope are featured wearing items from Prada's 2012 Spring/Summer collection.

Well, after all, the characters do have to look sharp for the franchise's 25th anniversary, which it celebrates this year. The photo layout premiers in the latest issue of Arena Homme+ and Editor Max Pearmain had this to say concerning the results of the virtual "photo shoot:"

"Our Spring issue focuses on a world of direction and escapism, and having a visually stunning videogame franchise such as FINAL FANTASY work alongside us and a leading fashion brand like Prada to create something so unique is incredible. I've always been interested by the power of videogames and their place in society, and the amount of work that's gone into this project blows my mind. We're incredibly pleased with the result."

FFXIII-2 producer Yoshinori Kitase added that the FF series has always been "known for its creativity" and in working with Prada, they've gotten new images of their characters that are "vibrant and unique." Yeah, well, we only have on issue: This is a men's clothing line and Lightning, last we checked, is a woman . Still, she does clean up nice…

SE: "hey let's make our ff13 characters wear stylish real world clothing! that's what our fans want to see!"

Meanwhile, FF fans around the globe are waiting on information about FFvs13 or SOMETHING that gives them hope for the future of final fantasy…
waiting…. but it never comes….

Pink hair and mini-skirts FTW!

Oh, wait, not quite Prada's style.

HAHAHAHAHAHA… Maybe they could give us a Final Fantasy 7 "Remodeling," lets say all characters wearing Banana Republic or something…
Just turn away from SE completely, at this point they have reached the point of no return. I will bet the farm, that FFvs13 is going to look great with many DLC for brand name clothing and all, but will suck as a FF tittle… Count on it.

And part of the problem I got with XIII was that the characters looked like fashion Disney stars characters this just makes me dislike that verse more xD.

Wait, is the picture with this article supposed to be of a girl?! Or do we talk about a different picture here?

Different picture, Beamboom. Click the link in the article. Lightning is the one with long hair.

World: Well…yeah, she's wearing dude clothes. 😉

Ah – made more sense. 😀 Yeah that girl is a real cutie for sure.

Not so sure I liked any of the clothes though. A tad too… West side (or "uptown") for my taste.

At this rate, I'm figuring that SE's gonna be hooking with up Mattel next to make FF Barbie Dolls.

Just completed the fragments and watched the secret ending in XIII-2 a couple of hours ago and it's not a satisfying reward. It should have been a few seconds of beautiful cinematic but it's not. Now this news about them wearing Prada should've make me feel excited but i don't feel anything at all. Maybe i just don't care about them anymore and i'm one of those who loved XIII and still is, but I'm dissapointed of this sequel. And maybe it's just me but somehow XIII is graphically better looking than XIII-2. And I've notice that there is no water spells like waterga. Also some monsters in XIII is bigger and more challenging than XIII-2. Just sharing.

Ben,

I know you love this game and all, but there's nothing interesting me with it. I haven't even given it so much as a rent, yet.

I'm not into it's fashion or consumerist approach, I'm afraid.

Well, just out of curiosity, if you've never even rented it, how do you know? 😉

I know it's a little bit presumptuous, but the large amounts of DLC add ons seem like a brash attempt to make money on a game that might not be excellent… or that's the impression I've come away with.

The game and all it's news just feels like a giant FF marketing campaign, and less like a game. I guess it almost feels like they're trying to become successful through additions, a consumeristic approach (a prada fashion show…. really?), or other gimmicks (like the ME outfit, bikini outfit, and add-on characters that have no influence on the story and can't even be used until you've pretty much finished already anyways) and NOT by simply making an outstanding FF experience.

The whole thing just feels very desperate. I know it's presuming a lot there, but every marketing campaign to try to convince me to buy this game has had the opposite effect it should have. I've been inundated with cute outfits and add-ons, but I haven't been shown exceptional trailers and interesting characters.

Heck, look back at the original trailer we got for FFXIII… that trailer got ALL of us completely stoked. Compare that now to an essentially helpless Sarah falling on her butt, almost die, but have an uninspiring Noel come to her rescue… but in a way that doesn't even show any action… it's like… monster there… sarah wuss… monster not there. No action, nothing.

I was extremely skeptical about this game before it landed and before the reviews. And the demo, trailers, and now strange and unfocused-on-gameplay marketing didn't inspire confidence for me. And while your review outlined improvements on gameplay, you're also telling me you like it for all the wrong reasons. I just can't justify giving it a shot any time soon (I will someday) when I have a stack of games I like for all the -RIGHT- reasons.

So, if a long winded post can be simple, then it's really as simple as that. :S

It's a complete game, you don't have to worry about that. The extra stuff is just extra.

I still hated the ending, but it was a story/design judgment call on the part of Square Enix.

I'm sure the ending will be elaborated upon further in either FFXIII-3 or 4. ;P

Errr I don't think you get it. It was part of the *deal* SE is prolly making money with that. Using their *already done* character models, they make extra money and Prada likes it since we gamers will look at our favorite characters more than *that random bony model*.

Its probably a japanese add.

So I do not get how SE getting more money out of a deal using existing ressources is supposed to be bad.

Awesome! lol Now models have to watch their backs 😛 I'd rather have the FF chix do all the modeling instead of all those bony *top models* ( I know gaming girls are thin (most) but at least you do not see their bones XD)
