No matter how you slice it, this is quite the accomplishment.

TIME's illustrious and prestigious list of the 100 Most Influential People consist of household names. This year, one of those names is Irrational Games founder and Bioshock creator, Ken Levine. He's the only member of the video game industry to make the list, which also includes president Barack Obama, Lady Gaga, and – brace yourselves – the hacking group, Anonymous (who, by the way, have said they're going to "shut down the Internet on March 31").

Anyway, here's TIME's entry for Levine:

"In 2007, Levine gave us BioShock, a dystopian game that folded Ayn Rand, psychological egoism and laissez-faire capitalism into a mind-bending first-person shooter. It was a masterpiece that helped spark the 'games as art' debate. 'When nothing matters but the market, whenever you make anything everything, you have horror,' Levine explained at the time. His propensity to elevate the conversation makes the designer one of gaming's luminaries. Expect him to challenge players again with a sequel, Bioshock Infinite, due out this fall."

Voting will continue through April 6. If you'd like to view the full list , feel free. It's an interesting selection and one that should make gamers proud.

Great to hear that the establishment is starting to pay attention to where the true visionaries come from in this day and age. Even if he doesn't win it it's a sign of outsiders being forced to take note.

It would be a mistake to just ignore the previous Bioshocks. If you get Infinite early enough for PS3 it will come with the first Bioshock, give it a whirl.

Odd to me why Bioshock 2 didn't receive as much love as the first. I'm one of the few who actually liked 2 more than the first.

Jawknee-

I liked the second better to. Just not the final boss fight. I really liked the final boss in Bioshock.

If his credentials are all it takes (I'm not down playing them either) to get in this list, then Amy Hennig should be on that list too. She's one of the best writers in the industry and really knows how to not only capture our emotions but bring characters to life through dialogue.

Anyways it's good to see the industry getting recognition. On the other hand why are they giving any recognition to anonymous?

I'd prefer Evan Wells if anyone at ND was to get it, as he sort've represents everyone at the company, being president an' all.

Come to think of it, it's kind've depressing that ND havent got any REAL recognition for what they've done in the past 5 years from any big award-thingy like this. They came close in the BAFTA's, but that was mostly in terms of nominations.

Well this at least shows that gaming is recognized outside of the gaming community . Many try to think it will never be recognized, but it has and it will only become more obvious as the years go by.
