Well, the format and style is just about right for an MMO, wouldn't you say?
A reader has pointed us in the direction of Tom's Guide , where an inside "industry source" claims that a massively multiplayer online title in The Elder Scrolls universe is in the works at Zenimax Online Studios. Evidently, Bethesda is set to officially announce the game in May.
The title should be simply "Elder Scrolls Online" and it'll actually be set a full millennium before the events that transpire in Skyrim . That means this MMO would be a prequel to any standalone Elder Scrolls up to this point, which ought to be interesting if true. The source also said there'd be three playable factions in the upcoming MMORPG, represented by a lion, dragon, and some unspecified bird of prey. Lastly, the game might show up at E3 this year, so we'll have to keep a close eye on that; it could make quite the splash.
No word on release date or targeted platforms; this could very well be a PC exclusive, but who knows?
Credit to BikerSaint for the tip.
Thanks for the shout, John, it's always a good feeling.
Hey Ben, just my 2 cents…..but I think all contributors should always get credit for any tips & articles, as I think it would go far in letting everyone who does, feel like they've contributed something to this site(I know it does for me).
I thought the same thing.
Yes I think so too.
It makes sense but I don't pay subscription fees. Now, a Fallout MMO might convert me.
One was in the works by Interplay, the original creators of Fallout, but Bethesda went to court over it forcing Interplay to stop. Shame really as Interplay did a fantastic job with the first two Fallout games.
This would be the first MMO I'd seriously play (assuming it would be good, of course).
The genre isn't very interesting, and the only game that has ever made me play for a considerable amount of time was Guild Wars.
But I can see the potential in this.

This could be good, well I know it would actually. I've always kind of wanted a mp or co-op type gameplay in Elder Scrolls, but didn't want that online only atmosphere to take over Oblivion or Skyrim. This is good, I'll be looking forward too it.
Hey John Shepard how's it going?
There is only one Shepard. And she's a female. 😉
Well, not an MMO fan here. I suspect we will see an Assassins Creed one at some point. A massive world where everyone is an assassin and everyone is being assassinated. UBISOFT… call me. 🙂
could be really good 😀
dunno if it will top wow tho
I'm pretty sure this will be for PC only, or next gen consoles. To run a mmo version of Skyrim on the current consoles… I don't think so. Not doable.
But it would be awesome if they include the next gen consoles in this. I'd love me a good mmorpg on my PS4.
I don't want to see a series that is known for having engaging storylines, characters and missions be reduced to a game where you "Grind" on mindless missions for XP and Loot.
Just give us a 2-4 player Co-Op Elder Scrolls game. That way the game could at least retain what has made it so great.
It doesn't have to be like that. The Old Republic, the new Star Wars Bioware mmorpg, it's got much more or a narrative and clear storyline than Skyrim or Oblivion ever had.
But a 2-4 coop mode would be awesome. Yes please!
