Oh man, we're pumped .

Assassin's Creed III is on the tips of a great many tongues, and that's because a whole lot of information has been hitting the Internet over the past 48 hours. Thanks to Game Informer and GamingBolt , a veritable wealth of information has appeared.

The developers wanted to remain true to the franchise's roots while still trying something new, and if you want the full rundown and early screenshots, click through the link above. Here are a few of our favorite factoids:

— The development cycle was the longest compared to any Assassin’s Creed game. It seems the game was developed simultaneously with the other spin-offs (Brotherhood and Revelations). According to Ubisoft’s CEO, AC3 has been in development for three years.

— The game tells a story of Templars vs Americans. It’s not about winning the war, but a story based on the main protagonist’s life.

— The game runs on a brand new version of the Anvil engine.

The new Assassin is the son of a Native American woman and a British soldier. He calls himself Connor, but his birth name is Ratohnhaké:ton. Born into the Mohawk, he eventually crosses paths with the Assassins in his search for righteousness.

— Settings will include Boston, New York and a large countryside. The countryside will be the setting of about 1/3 of the game, and will be the location of many events during the game. The countryside will be about 1.5 times as big as Rome in Brotherhood.

— The protagonist will fight on the American side, with primary allies being George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Charles Lee. However, this does not mean that the Americans are the good guys and the British are the bad guys. Templars are everywhere.

— There will be seasons in the game, meaning that the sun will shine during summer and the landscape will be covered in snow during winter.

— Fighting and stealth will be completely re-innovated, with Connor being compared to a “predator”. The player will be able to climb trees and other natural elements, and dual-wielding weapons such as a dagger and a tomohawk is now also an option.

— Desmond will go into the new Animus 3.0 and will find himself going into “significant events."

— 100% sync in memories returns, though this time you will be rewarded when you complete memories to 100%. Checkpoints will also be introduced to mission replay, meaning you don’t have to replay an entire mission to get that 100% sync.

— There is a fast travel system. The game is quite larger than Brotherhood; approximately 1.5 times bigger.

— Expect Uncharted level of character interactions with 2.5 hours of scenes recorded.

By the looks of it we get a bow and arrow? I'm very much interested in US history because it's more interesting than ours. I'll be keeping an eye on it's progress.

And everyone was getting all b*tchy about this being in America. Sounds like the best AC yet.

Woo hoo can't wait. I hope there's bears. Bears to wear a bear suit in. Yeah, that'd be cool. The game probably needs some snakes, too. And at some point during the story he'll eat one. Eat one with a bear suit on, even better.

I hope the graphics get better judging by that lone screen shot. I would'nt want crappy looking bears.

It's great to see Uncharted affecting other projects, the physical world interaction of UC3 was just amazing. I think it sets a brand new bar for how characters aught to behave in their respective virtual worlds.

I agree 100% and I still can't believe some people tried faulting UC3 for the way Drake interacted with the world. It was simply amazing and does so much for the way games are played!

I also think really shows how great and how much Uncharted has done for the industry, when developers strive to match that type of quality.

Once something similar is in an AC game (provided they do it correctly) then people will accept it as "good"

This isn't the setting I was hoping for (that would be either Victorian London or Bolshevik revolution St. Petersburg), but it looks super awesome nonetheless. Very excited.

I agree. It wasn't what I hoped – or even expected – but this *does* look awesome.

Awesome, I like the AC series but I'll admit I almost gave up on the original but somehow AC2 brought the spark back. I also havnt finished brotherhood nor even started revelations, but I will.

This stuff sounds really good and I'm really excited to ally with George Washington and Benjamin Franklin! All this information has really changed my outlook on the game, I want it!

Great because the setting is a huge ass ass in' contrast to the IInd, just like ACII was a huge ass ass in' contrast to the first. Considering there are more rural areas, it'll definately remind me of the varying landscape of ACI, obviously with new foresty areas and newer seasonal features to boot.

I enjoy the fact that this game was in production shortly after ACII and before Brotherhood (look how ahead of time it is compared to the ACII sequels). Obviously they've had more time to think a tweak.

Storywise it makes more sense; a WWI/WWII setting has too many firearms to make the setting plausible – though perhaps it could of been an excellent tale of how the older day assassin died out, leading to new generations evolving to be in deeper levels of espionage now that we've gained much more intricate technology. A Prussian location cold of been badass as well, though it may of been similiar to ACII.

Looking forward to this greatly. Glad I didn't play Revelations or got stuck into forcefully playing Brotherhood.

This is awesome news for me. I was excited when it was rumored that AC3 was going to be set in the American Revolution, and now that it's been confirmed, I can hardly wait! October 30 really can't roll around fast enough.

Not what i wanted ( no animus , happening NOW , not living someone else live ) but it definitely look pretty good .

That is precisely what I originally wanted, too. Hell, I still do. I think such a game would be hella fun, and it would give Desmond (who I don't much care about) his time to really shine and become more than an Animus jockey. Put that same style of gameplay into a corporate espionage-style setting of Assassins vs. Templars. Scale huge skyscrapers. Infiltrate offices and secret underground bases. Put the melee to the test against tasers, stun batons, and modern day weaponry. Then let Desmond use those same weapons. (Might feel a lot like a 3rd person Deus Ex, actually, steeped in AC lore.)

However, I am SUPER stoked about this.

It's official; AC is the first series to NOT BE HAMPERED by annualization. Proper planning and design came first, and it will pay off for Ubisoft.

So excited 🙂

Ac Revelations tightened a lot up. I can see the series getting hampered by it soon, but Revelations was still pretty good.

"…dual-wielding weapons such as a dagger and a mohawk is now also an option."

I'm sure everyone realizes this is supposed to be tomahawk instead of mohawk, but the imagery this sentence conjured in my head made me giggle out loud.

Also, I'm very excited about this game. I loved AC1 and 2, but my interest began to wane with the subsequent yearly installations. They were still fun, but I've been craving a REAL sequel, some innovation. I hope they can deliver on what looks like an awesome premise.

That would depend on how pointy he made his mohawk & how many jars of hair stiffener he used to keep it pointy, LOL

Not quite sure on the hating on the American setting.. Desmond is American, right? Even if majority of his ancestors weren't it was bound to happen that one of them would finally get to America. Since this is to wrap up Desmond's part in AC, it would make sense to have his final(?) playable ancestor be in his own backyard.

Underdog15
Underdog15

I don't think people hate the fact that it's American. I think it's just the combination of the location and time in history. At least for me, anyways.

I just think if they had picked a different time, like even the Civil War or Cold War, they would have had much more developed cities, etc. to allow for the parkour that made AC famous.

1.5 times bigger than Brotherhood? that's a large game…

BikerSaint
BikerSaint

Well, that was in Dec of 1773 & was one of the first keys to set off the American Revolution.

So I'm hoping that if the BTP itself isn't a playable section of the game, then I think Ubi should at least pay some sort of homage to that major act of civil disobedience which helped to change the course of America's history.

Nice, a Native American protagonist. Things are finally looking up for the state of ethnic minorities in heroic video game roles. Far too long have underrepresented ethnicities been relegated to racially stereotypical, villainous, or underutilized buffoonish archetypes. But this year, we have Starhawk and this to look forward to! Now if only Sony would rerelease The Mark of Kri 1 & 2 in HD on the PSN Store. Or even better…announce a sequel/reboot! That would really make my gaming year.
