Zombie game? Nope. Similar to Uncharted ? Nah. A survival-based action game with a heavy emphasis on story and character development?
Oh yeah.
The more I learn about Naughty Dog's new project, the more I start to drool. Really, I'm going to have to stop clicking on The Last Of Us headlines; this is bad for my keyboard.
Check out a recent PSM UK interview , in which various members of the team explain the setting, style, and gameplay of their hotly anticipated project. First, Neil Druckmann addresses any ideas of a similarity to Uncharted :
"Uncharted is a different genre to this. Uncharted is pulp action. And with this game, everything is constructed around the tone."
The characters are also vital, as both Joel and Ellie will suffer through life-changing events that have a profound impact on their lives. Druckmann added that the "whole focus" of the game is to get through the various perils with both characters; keeping them alive is going to be a challenge. Joel's voice actor, Troy Baker, tossed in his two cents and reminded us all that this character isn't some sort of superhero. Appropriately, he's just a guy who's trying to survive:
"He’s a guy that learned how to use a gun because he had to, and he’s fighting every day because that’s what you do. Does that mean that [he] steals this, that [he] does this? Maybe. But it’s not that he has a plan, or that he’s a strong archetypal character. I really think it’s gonna turn the model of the hero on its ass."
Essentially, we could be looking at the next generation of "survival/horror" or rather, the onset of "survival/action." Hell, Capcom doesn't seem to want it anymore, so…

this game is gonna be epic!
I know it's not actually a zombie game but can I get some explanation of the bubbling, scrabbling, mutated freaks running amok?
Anyway, looking forward to this and I'm warming up to the idea of hoping for a great survival experience with I Am Alive too!
Read the gameinformer coverage.
Reading about this game gives me chills.
Survival horror? Hell yes!! Good to see a developer digging this once amazing genre back to life.
Only Naughty Dog can do it better than Capcom.
Konami always did it better than Capcom.
million dollar question though is will this deliver?
SO many games have promised something and have not delivered.
how many games have promised true player customization, you can shape the story, the levels you play by the way you act.
and how many have actually done that?
as the saying talk is cheap!
i just hope for once a developer will actually practise what they preach.
TLOU is Game Informer magazine's "front cover" 13 page featured story in their March edition, which is out in newsstands now. Or just stop in any GameStop to pick up a copy
BTW, there's also a 1 page article in GI about the other survival game "I Am Alive" too.

If it's like Parasite Eve survival-wise, I'm sold.
If Uncharted is the "Indiana Jones" of the gaming world, then this will be "The Road" of the gaming world.
And I mean that as a compliment. The Road, as opposed to the Indiana movies, is a very good movie with an exciting and touching story.
Shame on you for bad-mouthing the Indy movies. Two of them are very good.
p.s. I hope TLOU is a little more exciting and a lot less depressing than The Road, but if it's half as powerful, that would be awesome.

The Road?? Seriously, don't remind me of those 2 hours lost watching that garbage. This story might be LIKE that, but difference being this will actually be GOOD!
Really looking forward to this. Naughty Dog always does such a great job with the characters, and likable sympathetic characters are tremendously important to me. A big emphasis on atmosphere sounds excellent too. I can't wait to see what the gameplay is like.
Naughty Dog, the game sounds amazing and looks amazing (visually) but when will we see how it plays? Please, I'm aching to see some gameplay!
I expect we'll see gameplay by E3 2012 but I'd rather see it nowish. Please!
Sounds like they're attempting to make a real character. That attempt can only be a good thing.
this game better not fumble like AMY
my GOD what a horrible game thanks for all the hype …whoever created it
last of us better be good if not im leaning back to the safest option, silent hill and resident evil
Can't wait to see & hear more about this game. Gotta love how Naughty Dog talks about different genres in terms of the story, and not whether it's a TPS or FPS…
i am soooo looking forward to this game i can't wait to get it.
