So basically, Insanity Mode in Mass Effect 3 asks one question: "Can you handle it?"
On the one hand, BioWare has worked to make the third entry more accessible, and they understand that some fans don't care much about the story, while others don't pay much attention to the combat. Therefore, the team is offering separate modes – Action and Story – to cater to each group's tastes.
But there's another group, the hardcore masochist group that demands a challenge. A big challenge. And for them, BioWare has revamped the Insanity Mode so now it's even more taxing. OXM UK spoke to lead designer Preston Watamaniuk, and he said gamers will have to invest a lot of time and strategy in order to be successful. For instance, if you don't become a student of the mechanic that lets you combine biotic and tech powers, you're going to go down…hard.
"You'd better do everything well, or you'll die," Watamanuik said. It's not just about increasing your stats and getting stronger, it's about taking everything into account and being a tactician as well as a dexterous, powerful soldier. Finished Watamaniuk:
"I had a lead designer for another game write to say 'make Insanity harder!' And I was like "OK!" This was a really well-known and respected guy, so I was like 'OK, I'll do my best.'"
Hope you're ready.
