Soul Calibur V isn't far off, and the hardcore fans are just dying to jump into the ring again.
But have you seen the full roster yet? There have been plenty of rumors surrounding certain characters and while a few hopeful assumptions persist, The Controller Online was able to come up with the complete main roster (with a few possible exceptions).
It looks like this; it consists of returning faces and new competitors. Check it out:
Additions- Algol and Edge Master are unlocked in Story Mode, and don't forget about two special guests: Ezio Auditore of Assassin's Creed fame and, believe it or not, Katsuhiro Harada, the Tekken producer. Yes, it appears the real guy is in the game. Elysium is still a rumor but that may be confirmed at a later date.
So there you have it. Sorry, Sophitia fans, we're not sure why she's not here. But we imagine the more avid followers will try to create her with that robust character customization mechanic in the game, right?
Related Game(s): Soul Calibur V
I think it something of a cardinal sin when fighting game devs remove iconic combatants from the roster. It sucked when Chun Li didn't appear in the first two iterations of SF3. It sucked when Jin Kasama's fighting style was entirely reset for Tekken 4 and so where is Sophitia in SC5?
Do they not consider that a combatant who has been part of the cast since Soul Edge may very well be the favorite of many?
Oh, and it sucked when UMK3 didn't get Baraka.
Here! try this new MKII character(then a few years later) YOINK!
I really liked Necrid in SCII, I was dissapointed when he never re-appeared in the newer installments. 🙁
Durring playsation / N64 era, I really enjoyed fighting games but its getting rare for my friends all to get together and play a game, even when we do, its usually a fps.
I like these games but havn't even gotten my moneys worth from Soul Calibur IV yet
You're correct, there hasn't been that kind of outcry, and I don't know why.
Thanks for reminding me of Setsuka. I knew I had missed her, but could not remember how to spell the name…
Weird, this was a reply to bebestorm on the post below…
Im surprised there hasnt been a outcry about Talim,Taki ,Xianghua and others. I'll still plan to buy it soon. Im concerned about the story mode.
Since it looks like it does not have Talim, I am very saddened. I can't believe they removed some of these great characters!
For me, no Talim = wait for price-drop. Maybe They'll release some of the old characters through DLC later? Or are we just supposed to deal with their absence… 🙁
You must not read my comments. I have been decrying the removal of Sophitia, Taki, Xianghu, Cassandra and for that matter Talim fort some time now.
To me, the game has a distinctly more macho, aggressive feel, and seems to be content to abandon fans of series favorites. Since they are content to abandon me, I will abandon them.
@ Highlander
Im aware of your past comments for SCV but I mean a outcry on the level of Ninja Theory doing DMC, Sucker Punch new Cole,Platinum doing Metal Solid Rishing and SE XIII. I don't like the changes they have made either but there enough of past characters returning for me to still buy it.
Setsuka didnt make the cut either.

(this reply originally appeared somewhere else, not sure why….)

I m also very saddened by no Talim , at least some of the othere that got remove still have someone that somewhat play like them ( Natsu = Taki for example ).
No Taki, no buy.
This Natsu character is Taki's replacement. As I understand, she's Taki's disciple. In this game, Taki has gone missing while on a mission. Here's hoping that Natsu's story concludes with her finding Taki and unlocking her character.
Troy, wishful thinking and replacement characters do not a Taki make.
No Taki, No Sophitia, No Talim, No Sophitia, No Cassandra, No Seong Mi-Na, no buy.
Gee, there sure does seem to be a trend among the missing characters. 🙁
Screw it, I'm not buying this piece of crap.
Same here cloud. I clicked on this article so fast hoping Taki name would somewhere be in there.
No Yun-Seong, no buy… 🙁
If they had Hwang would you buy?
I would like to see icigo and kenpachi of course. (crossing fingers) lol
That would be cool. I like that idea better than ezio.
Not even on my list of possible purchases, which is a first for a game in this franchise.
As for recreating her with the create a soul feature Ben, I can create anything I want with the same feature in SC3 and 4. Why bother buying SCV so I can put in a hollow caricature in replacement of that which is removed? That's a weak reason to buy a game that repeats a mechanic that I have already got in 3-4 other games.

Sophie and Sestuka are in it; but not in how you'd expect
Cut scenes and alternate versions of nightmare do not count, but then, you already know that.
Yea agreed with Highlander. They don't count.. for me
setsuka is in it by an alternate version of sophie's son, Patroklos believe it or not
Aaron, amazing as it is to you, some people wanted the character, not the moveset.
when did i say i find it amazing?
I'm really eager to see Nightmares new look.
The only thing that really bother me are the Dlc that come out the same month . Cas stuff released on 3 different dat that month , at least they won t cost much .
plus pacman and megaman.
all i have to ask is WTF does pacman have to do with this?
honestly, hows he going to fight?
dont mess with me otherwise ill open my pizza box, remove a piece and eat you!
……..
Wrong place: Pacman and mega man are for SF X Tekken not SCV. Hey you nvr know they might be available as dlc down the road
Setsuka's moveset returns. It is in an alternate form of Patroklos called Alpha Patroklos who wields soul calibur in a sword and sheath.
Sophtia's moveset returns in another form of Pyrrha. She is called Pyrrha Omega and wields Soul Edge and has evil eyes.
Kilik is a mimic who changes through all of the MALE styles in the game.
Elysium is the boss of the game. I believe she is the heavenly representation of Sophitia. She mimics all the females in the game.
I do not know if this has been poster here in previous comments, but rest assured it is completely true.
You can find the information on 8wayrun, there were even some leaked youtube videos of it
see this is the thing, I don't think you 'get' why people get upset by the removal of their favorite characters. returning their moveset is not returning the character.
I miss Rock already.
At least Kilik is there.
Kilik is Edge Master so don't be fooled my their marketing trick. Nice try Namco
you know.. there is one thing about soul calibur that no one is talking about, and that is how tight and responsive it will be.
no.. what everyone is talking about is what character is stopping them form buying this game.
this saddens me.
it makes me sad because imo fighting games should be about how tight they are, the moves, the styles, the flair..
yes, to a certain degree i agree on the characters being replaced isnt exactly what i would choose. but come on.. SC has been around for a long time now, and there needs to be a lil shake up in order to make the game feel a little fresher, especially after the last installment.
but they also need to be able to be in a position where either through DLC or SCVI they can start to bring old characters back, and the fans will go mad for them…
not sure why people pay much attention to the story of a fighting game. But if a character is totally missing from the game, moves and all, i can see reason to be piss. now if they are in the game and had an alignment switch, thats negligible
No, sorry Dillon, I disagree completely with you on this. This is a fighting game. The movesets are the movesets. According to some it shouldn't matter what characters there are so long as the movesets remain. I think that after 5 installments, the movesets are pretty much established and all you have left is the characters. To me, it's the characters that move copies of the game, since the move sets are the same movesets we've seen before. But by removing so many iconic characters – and no I do NOT count all the alternates and crap like that – removes any reason to buy the game.
There is no reason for me to but the game because all of my favorite characters are gone, and I can play the same move sets in at least 3 other games already.
I'm pissed cuz they wasted valuable character space to include stupid and useless additions like Elysium, Alpha Patroklos,Omega Pyrrha, and Kilik. Elysium and Kilik are just another Edge master so 2 wasted slots there, Alpha Patroklos is apparently gonna play as Setsuka waste as they should just copy and paste Setsuka from SCIV and Omega Pyrrha is another waste as she has the same moves but uses Soul Edge instead. Thats a total of at least 4 wsted char roster slots (5 for me cuz I think edge master is another waste personally I'd rather have him be dlc instead of wasting space in the character roster.)
Also they should have expanded the number of character creation slots from 50 in SCIV. My sister has 5 PSN accounts because she can't fit all her character creations on one account. Ugly: Why does Tyra still have to lose health!!
thats part of Tira's moveset and play style. high risk, high reward.
Can anyone tell me why Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has already 45 announced characters!! and they will still be adding characters as the game is coming out holiday 2012. My guess: Katsuhiro Harada loves his fans more than Daishi Odashima.
Tekken games normally have more characters to choose from, thats really nothing new. The teams that make each game are so different from each other they may as well be different companies

They may have removed some of the characters (which SUCKS because I played mostly from the female cast of: Seung Mina, Sophitia, Xianghua) but it doesn't mean the game will be terrible. The new characters could have been added to rebalance the game and make it better as a whole. We can't judge it just yet, as the new characters could be great.
As dillonthebunny said, the game itself could still be fantastic, but if it had the same roster as before it would be more of the same. This could be a step in the right direction for the series to evolve. Keep in mind I said COULD BE because I'm not passing judgment just yet, as many people seem to be doing without regarding any other aspects of the game.
No, that's the thing, it is more of the same, only with new and more anonymous characters. The movesets are the same, but the faces are different. So any connection players had with the characters is gone.
connection with characters? lol, maybe its time to choose a different fighting game then. Games like this have to evolve.. evolve or die.
I agree that people have their characters and become purists in doing so, or at least they think so. basically they are the sort of people who say I cant play that game if im not playing as …. (fill in the blanks), which sounds ridiculous to me.
a fighting game is ALL about fighting mechanics, every Tekken and Soul calibur game that has come has refined their engine since the last installment. You say that movesets are movesets, and to a certain degree thats true, but its what you do with them, its how you apply them to your fight that makes games like Soul Calibur shine from the crowd.
The game has to move on, it has to grow.. the fighting engine that was in this and the last game is amazing, but if you dont start to do something radical then the games all blur in to one.
sometimes you must clear the path before moving forward.
They can clear the path and move on without me then.
Too bad Devil Jin will be banned from tournament play. Namco should have just put him into the game instead of his moveset, this way he would be a set character and not fit under the CAS character ban. I hear he is pretty broken as well
