There have been job listings that all but confirm it. There have been numerous pieces of evidence to make Diablo III for consoles borderline official.

And while we still can't say it's "official" because we don't yet have the press release in our inbox, here's another hint that yes, the third Diablo entry is console-bound.

In response to the simple question- "Can you confirm or deny Diablo 3 coming to consoles?" on a Blizzard Community Manager's Twitter page , we got the following straightforward reply; it's nice to see a "yes," isn't it?

"Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project."

Now, the only question left is when they decide to make everything public. Plus, we'd like to know exactly when this console version will arrive; it seems highly unlikely that it'll launch alongside the PC version. Recent retail evidence supports the idea of Diablo III arriving next month, so…

We're just wondering how console gamers will respond to it. Maybe this is one of those franchises that is best kept on PC.

Isometric view dungeon crawlers have been lacking on consoles. Champions was a blast on PS2. If this has local co-op, I will definitely buy it.

actually, there was one that came out early in the ps3 lifecycle, but it wasn't anything to write home about… forgot the name.

@rossbo – I believe the game in question is called Dark Kingom

That's probably because isometric view dungeon crawlers don't play to the strengths of consoles. For these type of games, the versatility of a mouse / keyboard setup is often more useful than the ease and simplicity of a controller.

Ben, while I am happy to see any news of Diablo, there is one discrepancy I see here. The original Diablo was also released on ps1.

I know. …where's the discrepancy?

Yes, you are correct.
Although not a discrepancy it also released on the PS1, and which was actually labeled on the front cover as the "Playstation Edition", back in 1998.

I still have a mint copy in my PS1 collection.

Pretty good news. I'd definitely buy it for my PS3. You know I love exclusives, and I really think they push the industry. But if a game is good and it can be made well on all consoles and PC's I say spread the wealth. I wanna play It on my PS3. I don't play PC games, so…

While I certainly wouldn't want to deprive anyone of what I believe will be great game, I, too, am afraid that Diablo could be a franchise best left to PC. I understand that the big money is in consoles, but this PC gamer will be extremely disappointed if Blizzard made concessions to the original game because of the console port. Hopefully the amount of time between the two respective releases means that they didn't.

i mean, it would be great to see it. But….his yes was to the question of 'can you confirm or deny' meaning he could confirm it or deny it. Yes is too vague in this case don't you think? lets hope its turns out well though

This really wouldn't surprise me as to why it has been in development for so long. Not really impressed. There's painstaking development cycles, then there's just hedging your bets, that does not impress me.

Fantastic news! Truly and epic day in PS3 gaming! Blizzard = Intelligent!

I would buy this on the PS3 first and foremost. I am not a PC gamer anymore. I prefer the controller and the 60". Blizzard has said they wouldn't port it unless they could get the controls just right. Looks like they have a good control scheme that has allowed them to tap the console market. Give us PC to PS3 interconnected gaming as well and it will win GOTY!

I have four different controllers for my PC all suited for different types of gaming and my main PC is connected to the TV as well. All you need is a HDMI cord to connect them. Assuming your PC is modern enough which most of them are nowadays.

LOL!!!!! Are you seriously telling me that I can connect a controller to my PC and connect my PC to my TV? JFC!! I know that, but buying a new PC every 2 years is lame! I can get so much more from my PS3. I can get so much more for my family. I don't want to spend money on a PC when I can get exactly what I need from my PS3. Not mention I am addicted to trophy hunting.

If you have to buy a new PC every two years then you're obviously not buying the right system to start with 🙂 If you want to limit yourself to just one system for gaming then that's your decision. I prefer not to limit myself though. In either case, PC or console, you have to get a new one every 4-6 years because of either outdated components or the new console comes out. And trophies are in PC games as well. Team Fortress, just for example, has 394 of them to get.

I hope it doesnt ruin some aspect of the game like it did for Skyrim and the lame Menu/UI…

I remember playing Diablo on the PS, wasn't impressed w/ it in the least, which doesn't lead me to even think about getting DIII on my PS3. Games like this are meant for the PC and should stay on the PC, IMHO.

Besides, I'm sure there will be some sort of WoW tie-in (probably a companion like Star Craft II) as incentive to buy the game on PC, which I intend to do anyways.

I like to see that Ben. Hopefully it is sooner rather then later.

I am not a PC player for many reasons, and I am not the type of person to say a game has/should be on either console or PC. There are obvious benefits to both, but seeing as there is a community for both the company would be nuts not too release it for the console(s) as well. Why limit your profit? So long as they make sure it is quality it will only make everyone happy, including their pocketbooks.
