Tomb Raider Details: Realism Is A Primary Focus

If Crystal Dynamics gets this right, it should be the greatest Tomb Raider adventure ever.

Oh come on, we're allowed to be optimistic. Besides, doesn't it look great? The newly revealed details, courtesy of Play Magazine , also point towards a highly accomplished reboot.

It's the gameplay information that gets us excited. The developers are going for something "very realistic," which means Lara will continually react to her environment. If it's a super cold area, for instance, that could negatively affect her in a variety of ways. This is taken to another level if she feels pain; if she's nailed by an arrow or hurt in some way, she'll react in a very human way. She'll scream out and find it difficult to move with the same agility.

The magazine also hints at a large inventory that Lara will have to utilize if she wishes to survive. Some items will be used for puzzles, while others can be used as improvised weapons. It sounds a lot like survival at its best, and it should force us to be both accurate and thoughtful. Oh, and the article also talks about the stellar graphics, but we've already made that assumption based on the early screenshots and amazing debut trailer .

Here's hoping a finalized release date comes our way soon!

Sounds to me they've been hearing all the comparisons Uncharted has had with this franchise, which means they're looking to up the ante even more. This can only mean good things for the consumer.

Hopefully, the enemies aren't human bullet suckers like they are in Uncharted. While I love the Uncharted series, to this day, the enemies continue to eat numerous bullets before going down.

Anyway, I've been interested in the game since it's launch trailer. Not only because the new Lara is incredibly hot(Crystal Dynamics should take a page from Gearbox's page and find a real life counterpart for Lara for some advert posters and stuff), but because the 2nd Lara Croft was one of my favorite PS1 titles. I remember being in the mansion and the butler, although slow, followed you everywhere and occasionally farted(lol). I used to lock him in the freezer.

I loved how well they did the tomb raider one revision, it felt the same, but with a better understanding of story and more fun with jumping, grappling and the adrenaline kills

I'm hoping they'll eventually do a tomb raider 2 reboot, though 3, chronicles, and revelations majorly need some work as those were a bit confusing at times, chronicles was fun but 3 I never beat out of boredom and revelations was hard with the eqypt section, angel of darkness though was highly fun for core design's last tomb raider
hopefully crystal dynamics continues to pursue these best interests for years to come

also *chuckling* I too remember playing the mansion and locking that old dude in the freezer 😀 although I can't say I remember him farting, It was especially fun when he'd play bullet block with the tray 😀

Sounds rather amazing I must say. It clearly isn't aiming to go up against Uncharted, which is a smart move, but carving out an area somewhere that the series hasn't gone before. I like it.

All that is alright as long they don't forget the fun factor.

Also if it isn't much trouble I wish they didn't mess up Lara's voluptous anathomy. 😉

so so soooooooooooooooooooooooooo cant wait for this!
i just hope they keep the vulnerability feel of the trailer, and not focus too much on combat.
the trailer really gave off a survival horror vibe, running away from enemies instead of standing their blasting their head off true lara style.
this is one of those times where turning a franchise on its head is actually a good thing!
and oh boy did the series need it!

I hope that this "realism" they're talking about includes making Lara Croft into a deep, complex, well-rounded, and multi-dimensional character. As I understand it the Tomb Raider series isn't exactly known for being strong in this particular area.

That ^ i hate it when it take forever to kill someone , playing kz2 right now and it annoys me how much damage the enemies can take ( beside the head shots ).

Not enough game with real life damage system ( at least close to it, need to keep the game fun after all ) to my taste .Would be nice if that game would be that way .
For example you would have to take the time to treat you re injured legs to regain full mobility or an arm to be able to aim correctly again .
