Mass Effect 3: Bigger, Deeper, And Harder Than Ever

Mass Effect 3 is easily one of the biggest launches of next year for role-playing fans. …heck, it's one of the biggest launches for just about everybody .

Therefore, the more details we can find, the better. According to a European source citing Gamer magazine, ME3 could be the best installment yet.

Firstly, it seems the world that we explore will be much larger (i.e., "greater vastness of the galaxy"), and there will be an overarching theme of searching for resources and possibly gaining allies among other nations. Secondly, we can expect an even deeper narrative and increased AI, which means the difficulty should be higher, and our interactions with NPCs ought to be more dynamic. The aforementioned difficulty increase means Normal will actually feel like Veteran this time around…which you may or may not like.

Thirdly and lastly, the new graphics engine is "capable of carrying a high on-screen detail without losing fluidity of movement." Hence, the animations should be better and Shepard will be more agile. Oh, and we've heard about the online co-op function, which is fantastic for the fans. All in all, Mass Effect 3 is shaping up to be one of the most impressive titles of 2012.

Not sure I care for the increased difficulty.

As with all things difficulty, there should be difficulty settings (as there were in ME1 and ME2), and they should be balanced so that 'normal' fits in with the general industry level of 'normal' (which ME1 and ME2 did very well). If the increased AI makes enemies harder, then they should balance the number of enemies to achieve this.

If it also gives them the option of whacking in an "even more insane than insane" mode on top, of course, they should go for it :). I have no issue with difficulty, but I do take issue with games that assume all gamers are at the same level of skill and experience.

Yeah well I wouldn't care for a *choose your difficulty* setting but I want an extra reward for doing it on INSANE or something.

I must say how impressed I was with Mass Effect 2. First of all it is a great port that has some advantages over the 360 version. Mainly I was impressed with the detailed sci-fi universe in the game. It felt like a real living and breathing universe. Somehow, I could imagine a universe shaping up like it in the future. It was also cool how the game riffed off a lot of cool sci-fi themes found in everything from Babylon 5 to Pitch Black. It's probably my favorite game I have played this year. I eagerly await Mass Effect 3.

It might be a good port compared to others but there's still many issues, that get overlooked when other games get critiscized for it.

Did you play on the hardest mode? I've heard it's pretty challenging. If you played through on normal, and are an experienced gamer, then it should have been easy ;).

I put extra effort into keeping all my team alive in ME2 so I'm excited to see how things unfold in ME3. I'm liking everything I'm reading so far about this sequel.
I now just need to snag and play that Arrival DLC so I'm fully up to date with the series.

The arrival DLC is good storywise, it appears to lead up to ME3, from what ive heard about part 3. But it's very, very short for the amount of money it is.

I didn't keep my whole team alive, but Jack was the only one who didn't make it, which is fine, her and I didn't get a long. I didn't have the ability at the time to split Meranda and Jack up in their fight, so I took sides with Meranda. She was nicer to me.

@Big Railer – I agree – I didn't like Jack either and definitely didnt have enough paragon/renegade to keep both loyal. Did Jack die because you didn't have the ship upgraded during the fly-in, or because of the teams you chose at the end?? Because it's still possible to keep Jack alive through the suicide mission even if she isn't loyal (as long as you pick loyal members to correctly head each of your assault teams)

Great game though – really looking for ward to ME3.

At least now I know why I lost members. I selected the people I did not like to lead the teams. I think I lost Miranda. I kind of thought she came accrross biatchy if you know what I mean. I will try to correct that.

Sven-

Must be the teams I chose at the end, I picked the best person to lead in each scenario.

Excel-

Miranda was kinda mean until you form a relationship with her. Now she's super nice!

If you do all the loyalty missions and choose the right people for the tasks in the end, you should be fine for 100% team survival. I chose Tali for the tunnel, Garrus as 2nd team leader (Zaeed is also good) and Samara for biotic shield.

Loved the epic Mass Effect 3 trailer. Was drooling all over myself during the VGAs. Where is that macro key……….oh there..D1P! 🙂

D1P for me too…DEFINITE! I'm cool with a tad more difficulty on first playthrough. I did a playthrough on Insane for the Plat. and although tough, it was OK. Do a playthrough of Demons'/Dark Souls…now that's tough;-)

the chick from 'Killer Elite' – that was the model for Amanda in ME2 right? looks way to much like her.

really looking forward to this – ME2 was the first non rpg I ever bought – really got into it – this is a PC game for me though – save my consoles for FPSing
