Yeah, that'd be pretty freakin' huge, wouldn't you agree?
According to one source citing publication GamesMaster UK, Square Enix has a big surprise planned for the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy .
And that surprise will supposedly be an unveiling of Final Fantasy XV at E3 next year. The game will be announced "during a special Square Enix E3 2012 press conference," and the new installment will come to both the Wii U and PC as well as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In the past, FFXIII producer Yoshinori Kitase did say he'd like to bring the revered franchise to the Wii U at some point; Nintendo hasn't seen the series in quite some time. And I think the last PC release was FFVIII.
With Final Fantasy XIV being a MMORPG and Final Fantasy XIII-2 essentially in the books (it's out in Japan), it'll be interesting to see what Square Enix does for the next true-blue entry. Some are holding their breath, others…well, aren't holding their breath.
