Dead Island Reaches 3 Million Shipped

Although the game had its fair share of problems, many gamers still found Dead Island wildly entertaining.

Many, many gamers. According to Game Informer , publisher Deep Silver has confirmed that they have now shipped 3 million copies of the zombie-slaying survival game since its September launch.

The advertising wasn't bad, and with decent critical acclaim and that intense, emotional promotional CG trailer that nobody can forget, Dead Island flew off store shelves. We don't have an exact sales number, but here's what Aubrey Norris, Deep Silver Manager of Marketing & PR said:

"Dead Island has sold very, very well over the holiday season and we are thrilled that it has sustained a robust level of sell-through since launch in September."

There have been rumors of both a sequel and a movie adaptation, although neither has been confirmed by the publisher. Right now, it seems Dead Island has done extremely well, and it just might be a hot holiday item, too. We definitely want to see another effort and provided Techland fixes a few issues, it could be a fantastic production.

Love this game! I will have to get back into it as I haven't finished it yet. My backlog is a greatest hits list. There was a lot I enjoyed. The driving, weapon modifications, leveling, graphics, sound, control and running zombies! This game has 28 days written all over it. Glad to see them get rewarded. Dead Island 2 will be welcomed with open arms. Back to Trine 2!!

Techland registered the name Dead World a month or two ago so that may be confirmation of the sequel. They also said a few months ago that the sequel should be out next year at some point. I'll pick it up when/if it comes out for sure.

The problem with that trailer is it is in no way representive of the type of game dead island is at all. Great trailer, decent to average game imo.

I agree. That railer made me really pumped for the game because I expected an emotional roller coaster with well crafted characters in a survival setting.

I guess that's what The Last of Us is for.

Then I heard what the game was which sounded fun, but isn't what I was looking for. Why go and make that trailer when the game is totally different, and doesn't reflect that style at all?

biggest problem with this game is it feels like a bunch of side missions!
go fetch this, go fetch that, what am i a freaking errand boy!?
i cant understand why every zombie game has to be like this.
why?
why cant it have a proper story, and proper missions instead of having each level surrounded around finding a item and bringing it back?
thats why people are so sick of zombie games, simply because they all involve the same missions!

yea.
the easily breakable weapons did not help either.
the fun in games like this is tearing zombies limb from limb, so which genius made the weapons so fragile?
im constantly just kicking zombies away because im worried im going to break my weapon if i use it.
i wish they would just get rid of that crap, for crying out loud this is a zombie game the whole fun is killing zombies!
so why am i being punished for doing so!?

I prefer the realism the fragility of weapons offers in this game. Sure you have to repair them often, but try doing the same thing in real life as you do in that game, and see how long those weapons stay in good shape. Besides, money is so easy to come by in the game anyway, it's no problem keeping things in a good state of repair.
