Okay, first the good news, and then the speculation.
A reader has informed us that retailer Play.com has given Diablo III a January 24, 2012 release date.
Right now, the game is still in a beta phase that began in September and officially, Blizzard has only set an "expected launch window" of "early 2012." Therefore, the date isn't out of the realm of possibility. However, it's obviously only for the PC version and although we've heard that the developers are looking into a console release for this long-awaited game, we have to wonder when it will show up… At this rate, maybe that's a dangerous question to ask.
For whatever reason, PC games take seven gajillion years to make, as the Diablo fans (and Duke Nukem and Starcraft fans) will tell you. Just getting Diablo III onto store shelves will be some kind of monstrous feat; can console gamers expect a version for them on January 24 as well? Probably not. So when? Don't wait too long, Blizzard…after a certain point, we just might not care any longer.
Heck, the PS4 might be here.
