We got the official press release for The Last Of Us hours after the game blew everyone away at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. That was cool.

We had to wait a little longer for the Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance press release, but it's finally here. And it might help to quell the rising controversy and skepticism.

Konami Digital Entertainment and Platinum Games will indeed produce the renamed action game; specifically, the Kojima team handled the story and managed the cut-scenes and voice performances, and Metal Gear Solid veteran artist Yoji Shinkawa created the character designs. In fact, to learn more about the behind-the-scenes project, be sure to check out a special documentary piece at the MGS official site . It'll air today at 5:00 p.m. PST.

For the record, Hideo Kojima "personally chose" Platinum Games, and another MGS veteran, Yuji Korekado, has been tasked with overseeing the project. Kojima will be the executive producer. And yes, it's true, a decision was made at some point to make the game "a more action-oriented title" than what was previously planned. The press release says the project was "subtly" re-branded to reflect that change (the dropping of the "Solid" from the title and the "Revengeance" part).

Here's the game's description from the press release:

"Raiden is armed with a High Frequency katana blade which he uses to cut through anything that stands in his way. The three-minute trailer shows Raiden’s incredible level of power and control as he cuts through enemies and various obstacles alike using high-speed combination attacks, and using free-running skills to bypass groups of adversaries to give him a strategic advantage and catch them off-guard. As the game progresses, Raiden’s physical prowess is increasingly called upon and tested, with huge enemies appearing that require specific tactics to disable."

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will launch for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but there is no estimated release date for the time being.
