Update: Here's a snippet from the press release that just came our way:
"The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States."
Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells added that The Last Of Us "will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry." …wow.
Original Story:
Oh shut up .
We knew Sony was preparing to unveil a new PlayStation 3 exclusive at the Spike TV Video Game Awards and this past week, we learned it would probably be The Last Of Us .
All we had was a teaser trailer, a teaser site with an even more bizarre video, and some vague theories. Well, you probably wouldn't have guessed…hell, we never would've guessed it, either, but it's actually Naughty Dog's new project. The announcement trailer debuted at the VGAs and the opening message says the footage was taken from the PS3, so we have to assume it's exclusive.
The Uncharted developer is trying something new and we love it. While the concept may appear somewhat simple and even cliched on the surface, we are absolutely positive that Naughty Dog will once again produce a game that is a cut above. It's just what they do. And we think it's great that such a talented studio is taking a little break from Drake and Co.
Sure, it's amazing, but let these guys spread their wings and watch out.
Related Game(s): The Last Of Us
Knowing Naughty Dog is behind it gives you reassurance that it will be successful.
It was the only good thing about the VGAs.
BTW, was that black guy they invited an actor? The guy calling out Spike Tv and everyone lol. I think he crossed the line and wasnt payed/an actor

reminds me of the movie I AM LEGEND but heck i got no problem, shocked its by ND but can't wait. glad uncharted is getting a break, this coming from a guy who platinumed in all uncharted games.
That's the movie!
the name was on the tip of my tongue.
Your completely right, the whole atmosphere (from this trailer) is exactly like IAL.
I am concerned that this area is cramped atm though.
You know what, I see the I am Legend in it but lets not compare it to the shitty movie. I've read the book and the movie does the story no justice. This trailer looks sick and in a good way.
As much as I've always had a soft spot for the Uncharted series, the last one wasn't as good as part 2. Having said that I could never compare 3 with any other game but part 2. The level of quality was, and is, just too good.
A break from the Uncharted series is much appreciated to give that series time to breath more fresh ideas.
The father and daughter story although resonating 'I am Legend' actually resonates more '28 Days Later' to me. Potatoe, Patatoe…it's probably all the same but I'm leaning more towards the latter as the former was shite (compared to the book).
I don't see the comparison to IAL other than the post-apocalyptic setting. IAL was mainly based on one man and the feeling of being alone and in solitary. It looks like you'll have a companion in this one. Dare I say, Co-op?
This looks to be the game I thought Dead Island was going to be from the original "family backwards scene" trailers.
OOOOH …. Hope Hope!
I'm glad for an apocalypse game that ins't completely brown and grey..
Totally unexpected. One of my favorite parts of this year's VGAs.
Its Awesome its being dev by ND which everybody im sure is shocked about, but whole zombie style in games is getting old.
I'm more than 100% sure that ND will easily make it feel like an entirely new concept, with the way they work.
No doubt Nd will make this game the way Nd develops games, im just disappointed that its another zombie style game.
I understand how it's somewhat overdone, but I don't think we'll be feeling that way when we play it. At least it's not a vampire game…
All the zombie games are very different so they aren't overdone. And it would be nice to actually have a vampire game since Festival of Blood is the only one.
Not that it was needed, but this game could cement Naughty Dog as the premier developer for this generation.
Its not needed
When I say its not needed I mean the game to cement ND as the premier developer of this generation. Not the game itself. Sorry for the confusion

It will also cement the fact the Sonys First Party Devs are a force to be reckoned with. You can buy up all the 3rd party devs you want but at the end of the day Sony still comes out on top.
Also not needed 😉
When I saw the Naughty Dog logo at the beginning, I was totally blown away. Hm… Maybe that's why I was so into this game, even from the teaser. It's from Naughty Dog!
The graphics look great, and it may be a used concept, but so was Indiana Jones 😉
On another note, I was sad to see that Uncharted 3 didn't win GOTY, however I will respectfully let Skyrim have that one. As much as I wanted UC3 to get GOTY, I wouldn't have wanted it to lose to any other nominee but Skyrim.
Looked nice, but lets face it; the best part of that trailer was the words "NaughtyDog" right at the start.
The "zombies" were the worse part of uncharted, but I can't say no to a naughty dog game. Everything they touch is golden.
They own the ps3
They represent Sony – period.
What zombies in Uncharted? You're not talking about the cursed Spaniards are you? I didn't think they were zombies.
@Jawkney: those were totally zombies. Hell, Drake even referenced them as zombies in UC2.
Morlocks =/= zombies.
They didn't look or behave like zombies to me. Just sayin…
This game was actually referenced to in Uncharted 3 with a release date of October 31,2012

Thanks Gamer Girl 🙂
No prob! ;D
WHOOPS! Should have read all the comments first. I posted a similar link below.
This is gonna be amazing, I can already feel it. Naughty Dog games always have a great amount of shine and polish and quality to them, and I'm really looking forward to more info about this game. I got a shiver down my spine watching this trailer 🙂
I'll call this The Walking Dead:the game, minus the drama.I miss slow zombies, there was always something really scary about them.
I hope this does not mean no more DLC for Uncharted 3
ND wouldn't abandon their previous games, no matter how many more new titles they produce. That's not how ND does things
Except for Crash Bandicoot which hasn't been touched since the 90's. And a new Jak and Daxter hasn't been seen for 6 years or so.
@Geobaldi
Well, considering those came before the age of internet connectivity with gaming, it's understandable. Besides, that Jak & Daxter HD Collection is coming up… So they haven't abandoned that. ND doesn't just leave what made them great in the past, completely forgotten. They acknowledge and respect the games that got them to where they are today.
In fact, I'm sure if they weren't so busy at the moment, they'd dive headlong into doing a Crash Bandicoot collection. That'd hit the spot, but I'm content with letting ND do their thing with The Last of Us before anything else.
"I'll call this The Walking Dead:the game"
They're not zombies.
And they aren't 'walking' either
Well, they were walking, even running but they didn't appear to be dead.
You need to look again Jawknee. They aren't 'walking'.
Don't appear to be any type of zombie to me. Not sure what people are seeing. The press release references a plague, but that's it.
Implying any 'zombie' game or movie isn't just people infected with a virus anyways.
The girl looks like Juno.
Made by Naughty Dog = instant preorder.
That's what I thought. Except I remembered her from Inception. I wouldn't be surprised if they did in fact use her likeness to create the character. They used ND's Co-President Even Wells to create Karl Schafer in Uncharted 2.
Speculation confirmed based on this trailer. This is going to be so awesome, but I hope it is open world or sandboxish. Uncharted rules but zombie games need a little more room. Ohhhh this is gonna be sick.
Can we even call them zombies? The fungus changed people into something not human. So technically they are not dead.
Meh, Resident Evil had 4 great titles until it's belt and all of them were as linear as it gets. If ND can pull off an open world game with their standard for graphics than awesome, but I won't be complaining if it's not. 🙂
yeah i guess its unclear at this point what they are. But they ARE infected.
Resident Evil 4 was last gen when it was hard to make an open world survival game, I think it's best to provide options in such a game now that we can so going linear would restrict those options significantly.
