There's no reason to limit the number of platforms a popular wrestling game appears on. THQ has recognized this, and recently told IGN they've added three platforms for Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 : the Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, and PS3. The game has already appeared on the PS2 (pictured here), PSP, and Xbox 360, and the latest three versions should arrive some time this fall.

"We are extremely pleased with the success of the SmackDown vs. Raw franchise and its continued growth to a widespread audience, particularly in our European markets," said Bob Aniello, senior vice president of worldwide marketing for THQ. "With the addition of fresh, innovative game play on the Wii, the tremendous capabilities of the PlayStation 3 system and unique handheld experiences for Nintendo DS and wireless devices, gamers can now truly live the life of a WWE Superstar and choose from numerous ways to play."

But the added platforms announcement wasn't the only bit of news THQ was willing to share. As it turns out, the newest versions of the game are set to include fresh exclusive content. First and foremost is the existence of eight "Superstar Fighting Styles," which makes each wrestler more unique, and the inclusion of the "Struggle Submission System." The latter is an intriguing gameplay enhancement that lets you control how much pressure your holds have, simply by accessing "analog grappling."

We'll also get new rosters, weapons, ECW arenas, and the requisite Season and General Manager Mode. It may be coming a bit later to the PS3, but from the sound of things, it certainly has a shot at being the absolute best version of Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 .
