We still say RAGE is both underrated and under-appreciated, and if you missed out, maybe a play sample will persuade you to purchase id Software's latest. < /p.
A playable demo is available now on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and that same demo will drop onto the PlayStation Network on December 6. We're not sure of the demo details but hey, it's a demo. Go find out for yourself.
Also, don't forget that many retailers are offering RAGE at a heavily discounted $29.99 price due to the Black Friday insanity. If you really want to dive in and do everything, the game will keep you occupied for 20-25 hours, and even if you run right through it, you probably won't finish it in less than 12. RAGE is one of those games that latches on to you and won't let go; you always want to do the next mission. Just be careful of that…don't forget your shopping!

you know, i've heard that this games story isn't all too thrilling. does that impact the games overall quality at all?
i'm considering a purchase, but i have reservations as all… big spending season you know?

This games qualities are found elsewhere than the story, to put it that way. Not that it is directly bad, but it's "typical shooter story".
It's the graphics that is the main attraction here. Especially the characters but also the environments. I am totally amazed by it, but not everyone agrees with me there.
Hopefully the demo does the game justice – then you can see for yourself!
looks great graphically once the texture loading finishes after each turn of the camera. and beam, not sure what you meant in the other article, my ps3 is fairly new and this is the only game with major issues for me.
Also, the graphics look great but they are also very static. when bullets hit the environment, no kind of interaction whats so ever
Also, the length of the game is enhanced by the vehicle segments of the game, which feel very bland and vanilla. it works, but dont expect super quality racing

what I meant was that on the two PS3s I've played RAGE, the textures loaded significantly slower on one of them.
The only explanation I can come up with is that it must be their hard drives – everything else is (obviously) the same. My guess is that one disk was either very full, very fragmented, or both. On such a disk heavy game like this such things can make a huge difference.
So my advice to you all is that if you are about to install this game then clean up your disk as much as possible to make good room.

Cool. I could go for demo. Maybe a purchase if I had more time. It kinda reminds me of Red Faction: Armageddon.
30 still seems high for a bad story and I don't care for racing at all, I'll probably keep waiting.
No worries there WOrld. This game has been slashed at more places than one already. PC gamers have had several cracks at it for cheap, as low as $30 from what I've seen. I suspect this one will be had for below $20 from many outlets by Spring maybe Summer of '12.
I D/L'ed the demo last night but haven't had the chance to sample it yet.
I'm also going to D/L the PS3 version too, just to see if there's any glaring differences(yeah, yeah, I know the drill, it's only a demo, LOL)

Maybe this will save you some time. They're both virtually identical, performance wise.
One source claims the 360, when installed to the HDD, has slightly faster texture draw-in. The same source also claims the resolution during more intense racing sequences scales itself down a bit more frequently on PS3–small potatoes.
The biggest deal I think is this, the PS3 version ships on 1 disc, not 3. And in order to even get the faster texture streaming, you'll need to cough up an Apophis sized space on your HDD to install it all… and MS charges a ridiculous rate in terms of price per MB.
My money would be on the PS3 version.

Well to be honest I usually don't, and most of the stuff that others complain about are usually meaningless to me. I'm the type that I don't care about the rare pop-up, texture tears or slow hi-cups, just as long as it really doesn't mess with my gameplay itself, such as long stutters or constant total freeze-ups that turn my PS3 & controller dead until I shut it down from the back & reboot it.
Oh, and those few times were I hide in a convenient corner or behind some rock, from enemies & and then I wind up forever stuck inside, with my only option to have to re-boot the game.
But with Rage I've heard so many in some camps say there's no problems & other camps saying there is, so that's why I was going to do the comparison.
But since you've checked them both & say they're both go to go, I'll take your word for it.
BTW, since I'm also a gaming collector, I'll still need both the 360 & PS3 versions for ALL of my collections, but I defo' want to buy it first on the best console, & then the 2nd version will wind up as a used bargain bin buy later on.

Ah, well, biker, I didnt actually do the comparison. All I had done was look into screenshot comparisons and performance analysis posted on the web.
Most of the time I go with the platform with the small edge. Sometimes, like in Rage's case, they're extremely close, where storage format alone is enough to guide my purchase. That and having free online play. The same goes for the latest Assassin's Creed game. It looks like Ubisoft finally scored with their latest release for PS3 folk with the image quality looking ever so slightly clearer, sans a very slight increase in screen tearing. I look forward to trying it. Plus the facial detail (both platforms) looks miles better.. I knew Ubisoft could do better than they'd done for faces.

Sweet, I have been hoping for a demo. I am a huge Id Software fan that has thoroughly played everyone of their games. However, this time around the avalanche of games was to great to make room for Rage.
As long as their is a hint of a story and gunplay is epic I will truly enjoy Rage. Just glad I get to try without shelling out $60!! $30 is a tough one for me right now after all the games I have bought. The wife will not let me get another game until Twisted Metal or Reckoning Kingdoms of Amalur. Even with all the games I have now, February cannot come fast enough! Kingdoms of Amular is #1 on my radar!
I love Rage! I'm about 9 hours in right now. The story isn't great by any means, but one of my favorite games of 2009 was Borderlands and it didn't have a great story either. Rage is a beautiful game, despite the texture loading issue, but I stopped noticing it after the first hour. After getting into it, you're not concentrated on staring at the scenery anymore. I think the best thing about this game is that it's just plain fun. That's what I think every time I play it. They nailed the gameplay and mechanics in my opinion. I think if they make a Rage 2 with a more exciting story and fix the texture loading, they are easily going to have a game of the year contender! At least give the demo a try! I haven't tried the online but the driving in the game is actually a lot more fun that I thought it would be so I'll definitely try that when I get more time. For $30, it's totally worth it but for those of you who only play through a game once, it definitely deserves a rental.

why not just use the demo they showed at many PR events?
surely if its ready for thousands to play at E3, another thousands to play at gamescom, and another thousands to play at PAX and other events, then surely its ready to be put on PSN!

I wanted to try it out becasue I was considereing getting it for $30 but hey I just bought arkham city for $28 (and it included arkham asylum GOTYE for free!)
