Guerrilla Working On Killzone 4 For PlayStation 4?

Well, if you put two and two together and cross your fingers, it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility.

A reader has informed us that the latest issue of Edge magazine has confirmed that Guerrilla Games is currently working on a "Killzone follow-up."

It seems the majority of the development staff is already cranking away on the next installment in the fantastic series, with KZ2 and KZ3 Senior Producer Steven Ter Heide acting as game director for whatever this "follow-up" is (presumably Killzone 4 ). Guerrilla also announced a while back that they're working on a new IP; obviously, this isn't it as the Killzone franchise is definitely involved.

There's something else to consider, too. Sources have been saying that internal Sony studios are already working on PlayStation 4 game concepts and in fact, there was the rumor that at least one studio has stopped working on the PS3 altogether so as to focus on the PS4. Therefore, if it's Guerrilla, doesn't that mean that the next KZ entry will be on Sony's new console? Dare we hope?

Hopefully KZ4 will be the perfect blend of 2 and 3! Interesting although I don't think Sony would switch over to the PS4 this quickly. It has only been five years, and they finally started picking up some really momentum. Announcing a new console wouldn't be smart. Heck the whole reason Microsoft is supposedly releasing the next xbox next year is to get a head start because they see the value of being first.

However I think that the price will be too much and as the ps3 drops in price its just going to dominate even more.

Well it's been 5 years as of now, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility for them to be working for a 2013 release for the ps4 (possibly even 2012 though I highly doubt that). That would be 7 years and the ps3 came out 6 years after the ps2.

And KZ4 would be a wicked launch title.

I'm thrilled if Guerrilla are working on a new KZ title. They have been my favourite shooter series this campaign and i just did my 4th play through of KZ4.

Honestly these developers are the cream of the crop. The games look absolutely stunning (*cough* Frostbite Engine fail *cough*) and I know KZ4 will blow away everything we know on the PS4. Only down side is the probably two year wait but it should be worth it!

How did the frostbite engine fail? Just because the consoles didn't look as good as the pc footage that was released?

I personally don't think Frostbite failed in any way. I think destruction 3.0 did.

Maybe this follow up is just a Vita title, hard to say.

I don't think so. I don't think Guerrilla is developing the Vita title. Just how ND isn't doing the Uncharted Vita title. Sony typically hands over development of their handhelds to different studios.

Well Killzone Liberation was developed by Guerilla so it's possible.

Nah, the Vita title is coming courtesy of Sony Cambridge.

I am so excited to hear this news! GG is a premiere dev and I loved KZ2 and 3. KZ4 for the PS4 is a great idea. They could really make a cool theme for the PS4. 4 play is better than the competition with a picture of Killzone 4, Uncharted 4, God of War 4, Motorstorm 4 and Resistance 4 all ready for launch! Microsoft would just quit and go back to Application development.
It will be interesting to see what Sony does with the PS4 controller. I am predicting that the PS4 controller will emulate the PS Vita. Meaning it will have the touch pad on the back of the controller. Everything else will be what we are already so fond of. Best controller in gaming bar none.
Edit – 1 more thing, KZ3's production values looked like PS4!! What will KZ4 really look like on the PS4?! Real life?

I think its interesting news for sure…and if you put two and two together it sounds like KZ4 might be a PS4 launch title which is super exciting. I have to say that it seems like the PS3 has alot left in the tank though…but at the same time it has been out for 5 years. There are still so many PS3 games I need to play and it sounds like we're running out of time! 😀

That sounds exciting, but I am still very happy with my PS3.

Who am I kidding. I'll see some PS4 game trailer and pre-order the console.

Aside from Killzone Liberation. Killzone 2 & 3 were pretty rubbish, both had poor stories. But cant complain about graphics and certain voice actors.

Certainly can't complain about the gameplay or the AI either.

I hope in the next one they allow you the option to play as more than one character for a level, like in the PS2 Killzone with their four-man team.

I'm much more interested in the new IP they're developing. GG are a talented team, and I'd rather they focus solely on a fresh series over yet another FPS sequel. Let's see what else they can do!

I think I read somewhere that the team who moved their project to PS4 was also helping offer input for the actual engineering of the PS4.
That has to narrow it down to GG, PD, or ND.
My money is on GG.

It's great seeing Sony wield it's greatest strength, developers. All devs that have recently released a game could now be starting up a PS4 project. What a great time to be a Sony gamer!

Love to see what gg games can do with some new hardare. They are not bad games so it remains a mystery why these ganes did not turn into the system sellers sony once thought they would be, A better story and characthers would help.

KZ4, Uncharted 4, MotorStorm 4, God of War 4 PS4? Could we be looking at launch titles?

PasteNuggs

I don't think they should have them all as launch titles. I think they should release them two or three weeks apart from each other so that they don't have everything out the door right away and can keep the hype going throughout the first few months.

Maybe not, but considering the launch lineup for the PSV, I bet Sony will do the same for PS4.
Maybe the games you listed are under development for Ps3. But so is Kz5, UC5, MotorStorm5 & GoW5 for PS4!!!! Who knows?

But I believe that just like the launch lineup for the Vita, Sony will do the same for PS4.

I am surprised no ones mentioned Backwards Compatability. Will this be forgotten about now ? Everyone here has at least 10+ games I am 45+ more not had a count, already got my PS1 and PS2 and they never get used. So will the PS3 be dropped when the PS4 gets here ? Possibly by myself if games from the PS3 wont be playable on the PS4.

Please Sony let there be b/c ffs!

Are you kidding? Look at the last topic about possible PS4 news, just about everyone talked about backwards compatibility and think it is a good thing and needs to be included.

VampDeLeon

Well this article is mainly about the possibility of KZ4 on PS4, so most people will be commenting about Killzone more than B/C for the PS4 (which I want). D:

Backward compatibility is a must!!! Otherwise what do people do with their large collections. It is crazy to think that one has the space to keep all console hardware iterations. I would rather keep the original disks, then have the options to dump them onto an internal HDD and play everything from HDD if I so wish on the PS4.

I must say though, this time around I will not be purchasing a PS4 on day one. I will let it settle down for at least a year or two. It really depends though what the PS4 releases with. If it truly blows me away – which I am sure it will – to some extent anyway, then I may buy in early…

I think I'm going against everyone else here, but I'd rather see KZ4 coming to the PS3, perhaps even after the launch of the PS4, even though GG have proven capable of pushing the hardware, and would make an excellent showcase for the the new device with an established, and rather popular, property. Don't get me wrong, it is important for Sony to have a game representing what may well still be the most popular genre in gaming as a launch title, but I'd rather see it as a new IP, like Resistance was.

I'd really like to see a combination of new IPs and established properties on the PS4, so I think that Heavenly Sword 2 from Santa Monica would be one, another Motorstorm, because it isn't really a continuing story. A new IP from GG and Sucker Punch. Maybe a MAG follow-up from Zipper.

Oh, and the team that's finished up PS3 development. I sincerely hope that it is Sucker Punch. inFamous 2 was brilliant, but I want to see them go even further with whatever comes next, and I really hope that it is on the 4. But what about MM?

KZ4 will probably hit in 2013 or 2014 on PS4 if KZ4 is officially being made for PS4.

I for one am not ready for the next generation… at all. Love where everything is right now, and am not ready (nor is my wallet) for a new technological leap. I'll wait at least three or four years until I get a PS4 AFTER it comes out for that reason.

This is fantastic news for all GG fans. I will be looking forward to seeing what they are able to do with this title.

Interesting though, you still have huge titles like DUST514 coming out on PS3 hardware. It makes you wonder why now. Would it not be better to delay and go for the PS4 rather….

Anyway, it will be interesting to see nonetheless…

not really surprising, especially after the ending of KZ3.
makes sense though, definitely wont be for ps3 because they have already said there working on a new IP for ps3.
this time hopefully they put the boss battles back in.
thats the only thing i hated about KZ3.
they added everything i wanted from 2, but took out the best part about it!
the boss battles with the tanks, ATAC, visari, heavies were freaking awesome!
thats whats spoiling allot of games for me this gen, not that there bad games, but there so different!
for once maybe we can have a sequel thats the same, just with new levels?
who said sequels have to be totally different!?

Lawless SXE
Lawless SXE

Played CoD? I think that's the most frequent argument against it. But who wants to play the exact same game twice? Better to take a chance and annoy fans, learning for their next game than to get overly comfortable, IMO.

___________
___________

no,the whole point of a sequel is to be same game just different missions.
why is ninty so successful?
because every game they release manages to feel so fresh and new, but still feel old school.
look at skyward sword.
brings so much new to the series, but yet still feels like a proper zelda game.
thats whats destroying my enjoyment with allot of games this gen.
they end up being so different, look at infamous 2.
in the original, the powers were all combined so well.
in the original you could have a grenade that had a high impact radius, then shatters into smaller ones.
infamous 2 you cant do that.
you either have the high impact radius, or you have the shatter grenade with a lower impact radius.
thats what destroyed my enjoyment with that game, it feels so different to the original, and you feel so underpowered!
or even GOW3.
so different from 1 and 2.
almost every sequel this gen has been so dramaticly different to its predecessor and thats whats destroyed my enjoyment with it.
look at LP2, RE5, DMC4, GTAIV, all games so drastically different to their ps2 brethren.
but then look at PoP sands of time, a game thats almost identical to the ps2 titles.
and i really enjoyed that game.
i wonder why.

if i wanted a different game, why the ^%$# would i buy a game in the same series?
one line that REALLY irked me in IGNs review was "if you liked the combat in AC before then you will like it here. if you dident then you wont."
first off he makes it sound like a bad thing.
how is ACRs combat being the same to its predecessors bad?
2nd no sh*t sherlock if you hated the combat in ACB you would hate it here!
if you hated AC2 and brotherhood, then WTF would you be reading a ACR review?
as if people are looking in to ACR expecting to see a totally different game!
if you want a totally different game, buy a totally different game in a totally different series!
i dont see people going out and buying halo then complaining that its not mario kart!
drives me f*cking insane when reviewers mark games down for being what they should be, or marking games down for not being what they should not be!
reviewers are suppose to review games on what they have, not what they should have.

after finishing ACR tonight, i can say its BY FAR better then brotherhood!
technically a better game then AC2 even, only thing stopping me from saying so was AC2 was such a leap forward and this is not.
but expecting the leap from brotherhood to this to be the same gap as 1 to 2 is just ridiculous!
i dont see IGN marking uncharted 3 down for being the same game!
