Sony is currently celebrating the fifth anniversary of the PlayStation 3, and we figured it'd be a fitting homage to focus on that which the PS3 does best: exclusive software.

So after five years of the PS3, what are the top 5 exclusives in our estimation?

5. God of War III

A mammoth action achievement. Kratos is a stone-cold bad-ass and this new adventure from Sony Santa Monica Studios is epic, satisfying, and oh so gorgeous. Featuring fantastic art work and some cinematography that remains singularly impressive regardless of any new software, God of War III was one of the most accomplished games we've ever seen.

4. Gran Turismo 5

Some will bemoan its shortcomings. Others will staunchly defend it. We're in the latter group, as we've explained our position as car and racing enthusiasts. Polyphony Digital's authentic, realistic, and insanely in-depth driving simulator demanded much of the ardent fan, and the rewards were unmatched. If you're looking for the ultimate racing experience, you've always been able to turn to Gran Turismo .

3. Heavy Rain

It has left an indelible print on our minds; the one game that had such a profound emotional impact that we can't get it out of our heads. It was the combination of the cinematic storytelling, freedom of choice, and compelling, tension-filled gameplay that made our jaws drop. An undeniable work of art from start to finish and top to bottom, Quantic Dream showed what video games are capable of, and we're all very grateful.

2. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

Hideo Kojima is a genius and this effort might be his greatest ever. With a storyline that nobody will soon forget, a style of gameplay that benefited both the hardcore and those new to the franchise, and an artistic beauty that boggles the mind, MGS4 stands tall. You can release whatever you want this generation; nothing is going to significantly outpace this landmark achievement. Only Kojima can do it with MGS5.

1. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves/Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Okay, we cheated. We had to. There was just no way we were going to choose between these two masterpieces. And in truth, the reason why these two outstrip MGS4 is because…well, there are two Uncharted games that we consider to be elite productions. Thus far, there has been only one true Metal Gear Solid installment on the PS3, right?

Anyway, nobody will debate the insane quality found in Naughty Dog's Hollywood-like productions. This studio just seems to take the next step in every possible phase of development; they go above and beyond in terms of overall refinement and explosive appeal. Everything from the professional voice performances to the immensely well designed set pieces makes us all proud to be gamers. And that's what it's all about, really.

Great list. I disagree with U3 and U2 ahead of MGS4 as U3 was a much more flawed (yet still awesome) installment. And I'm not a GT fan. Realistic racing games are not my bag. Respect it though. Kudos on the Heavy Rain mention. While I liked GOW III a lot, it was my least favorite of the series.

I'd go:

1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
2. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
3. Heavy Rain
4. Little Big Planet
5. inFamous

I fail to see how Uncharted 3 is "flawed" at all, but whatever. 🙂

Imho PS3 has achieved what no other console in the gaming history did, it had such an awful start yet it's my choice of console this gen (yep, 360 aint bad either, but just falls short when it comes to exclusives), it's been pleasure visiting this website every single day for the past 3 years, Ben is heavily influential in my game buying decision, his reviews are some of the best in the industry
My top 5:
1) Uncharted 2
2) Gran Turismo 5
3) Valkyrie Chronicles
4) Lil Big Planet
5) MGS4

These are all awesome games, and all are equally sublime, soo just ignore their numerical number beside them

I really don't understand how Uncharted 3 was "much more flawed" either?

I'd like to know what you saw that was different than what I saw.

Yes, aside from Drake's new found love of wall-touching, I didn't either. I'd say Deception was visually more astounding (graphically and set pieces) while Uncharted 2 was more refined story wise, telling a more poignant tale.

I can't believe people are acting like Drake interacting with his surroundings is a flaw. Seriously it's something that we don't see in video games and it's an amazing achievement. It literally adds so much more to the realism, and really shows how much work ND puts into there games.

Uncharted 3 didn't feel as complete and coherent as Uncharted 2. The story for UC3 was just all over the place. I only realized this when I played it the second time with my friend watching.

I'm not saying it is a bad game, not at all, it was still fun to play. But thats the problem. I don't play uncharted for gameplay, not that the gameplay has ever been bad, but I play uncharted for a really good story. In my opinion UC3s story went know where. It felt more like they made the set pieces and then plugged in the elements, where UC2 felt like everything transitioned nicely one to the next.

Story wise, the villains in 3 were not well fleshed out, and you see them a handful of times. What was the relationship between marlowe and talbot. Why did they actually want what was in the atlantis of the sands? They already had hallucinogens so why did they need that particular one? Instead of hiring an army that knows nothing about self preservation, they could have hired the best chemists to make the most insanely powerful hallucinogen ever. No instead they go on a wild goose chase looking for something that might not exist to get a hallucinogen for something that judging from what it did to cutter and drake already worked darn fine.

That is only one of the many other small flaws with UC3. Others include, the cut and past feeling some of the set pieces had like how the last level in UC2 and 3 was escaping from a crumbling lost city. The horse scene reminded me of something else in uc2 where you were car hopping the army convoy I think?

The boat level had no real impact on the story and only served as a set piece, after the boat sinks hes back at square one.

But the biggest and I mean the BIGGEST complaint that makes all of those insignificant by comparison was the desert scene.

Oh boy, so Drake crashes a plane and wanders through the desert for at least 2 nights, so we can assume three days. He doesn't have water and is complaining about it the whole time. Then he finds the ruins and is looking for water, meanwhile he is still climbing and jumping just fine….listen I've been doing parkour and gymnastics and martial arts for about 15 years, and him being that dehydrated and parkouring around so easily.. please.

Now I know that you don't need to eat and drink in most games but, why didn't Naughty dog go anywhere with this? Finding water should have been a gameplay element. Wouldn't it have been awesome and funny if drake snuck up on a guard with a water bottle stealthed him and drank the water before he could maneuver like normal again? Or perhaps he has to clumsily fight his way from bad guy to bad guy searching for a canister with water in it?

Heck at the very least when he slammed through the door and saw the guy drinking water he should have knocked him out grabbed the gun and the water taken cover took a swig and said something witty.

I expect to get flamed, but if you actually pay attention to UC3 there are some flaws with it. I think UC2 is the better game, both in locations and fluidity. UC3 about an 8.5 UC2 10 as I played it straight for 2 days and platinumed it.

Only once did I experience a problem in UC3. I got stuck in a wall and couldn't move. Had to restart the checkpoint. Aside from that hiccup, it's been near perfect for me.

I quite liked the desert sequence. Not quite sure why you think you need to be so sarcastic about it. Sounds like you're nitpicking to me xenris. It's a pretty stupid thing to complain about to be quite honest.

I still say Uncharted 2 was a bit better than Uncharted 3… I have reviews for both, if you wanna read them.

I kinda agree an I kinda don't. It's weird. There were times when playing 3 that I thought to myself 2 was better but over all 3 just seems better.

I personally like Drakes Fortune the best. But I the quality of 2 and 3 is just insane. They are epic in every way.

I agree with bigrailer that 2 and 3 are both epic, and I think 3 added just enough to make excellent improvements without taking away from the core of uncharted. But I think the story-telling in 3 is phenomenal, and it really does play out even more like a movie – which is insane to play.

Heavy Rain is nothing without the Move! It adds to the experience. I prefer Heavy Rain with Move over inFamous 2, otherwise, inFamous 2 over Heavy Rain.

You can use Move with Festival of Blood.

inFamous is definitely more "fun" than Heavy Rain, but no game has ever given me that kind of tense feeling before. Personally I'd dump Gran Turismo but that's just cuz driving games don't matter to me at all.

I bought Festival of Blood but have yet to play it. I meant to play it on Halloween but there are just to many other games. Gonna try and finish up my newest play though of MGS4 before Skyward Sword arrives then maybe I'll get around to Festival of Blood when I take a break from Skyward Sword.

This has to be 10 exclusive games. I'd squeeze in Demon Souls, Infamous 2, LBP 1&2 and the Killzone's for their unmatched polish.

Valkyria Chronicles is in my top 5 exclusives.

I value these exclusives the most:

Not in any particular order.
MGS4
GT5
Infamous 2
Ratchet: CiT
Uncharted2&3

Motorstorm almost made it.
GoW4 will have a strong chance, but because I preferred GoW2 over GoW3 I have a hard time wanting GoW3 in my top 5.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 doesn't really count because it's mostly a multi-plat. It'd be like calling Oblivion for PS3 an exclusive. well, sort of.
I admired HR more than I actually want to play it. I recognize it's greatness, though.

Because I like to be poop head man here's my 360 favs.

Bayonetta (do shut up =p it basically is)
Gears 3
Doa4
Halo's
Mass Effect

GOWII was definitely better, which was why I was a bit disappointed with GOWIII. I think most people let the awesome graphics fool them on that one.

GOW I and II were just astoundingly great, whereas III was just an ok conclusion to the trilogy (with utterly fantastic graphics.) I think II, in particular, is just one of the best action games I've ever played. Holds up remarkably well to this day.

Honestly, no disrespect to anyone who still loves it but Halo is SO played right now. I really hope they re-think the gameplay significantly for Halo 4 because while I had an OK playing through Reach, 3 and ODST, it just hasn't had that magic feeling since the first game, IMHO.

Gears of War and Mass Effect were the two exclusives that drove me to pick up a 360 one cold and lonely january a few years back. ME is now on PS3, so to me, Gears is the only exclusive that really stands out on 360. And while I liked Gears 3 quite a lot, and the new horde multiplayer is SERIOUSLY fun, that series also seems to have run its course. Will be really interested to see how and if Cliffy B and Epic Games can keep it fresh moving forward. As Final Fantasy proves, nothing good lasts forever…

For me personally:

5. inFamous 2/3
4. Heavy Rain
3. Dark/Demon's Souls
2. MGS4
1. R&C: ACiT

Tools of Destruction was better.

The space exploration, the mods, and the RYNO V( IV was more powerful but the 1812 Overture was just so epic) in combination with the story put ACiT above ToD for me.

Then again, that's just my opinion.

I did not like the space exploration. It was good, but nothing special. Then, exploring these little planets was tedious, with really simple plataforming.

I also think the fact that Tools of Destruction was my first R&C makes it my favorite.

@ Fane1024,

Sorry I can't let you play 3 right now. You don't know how much Sly Cooper skills I had to exploit to steal it. But I must say, it is by far the best in the series.

I thought inFamous wasn't impressive compared to what Sucker Punch has done before (namely Sly 2). Anyway, where's Valkyria Chronicles? That game was way better than God of War. It's not very well known, though 😛
