We believe film director Guillermo Del Toro could make a really amazing game. He just has to do it.

We heard a while back that he was working with THQ on a new game trilogy dubbed inSANE . The "Pan's Laybrinth" and "Hellboy" director had initially said the first entry would drop some time in 2013, but unfortunately, it may be even further away.

According to a recent Wired interview , the first game in the trilogy is still "two-and-a-half or three years away," which means it won't be on store shelves until 2014. Del Toro did add the following as a progress update, however:

"Up until the end of pre-production on Pacific Rim, we were still going up to Chicago, to Champaign, Illinois, to work with the developer. And every week we have a conference [call] where we exchange ideas about the design, the gameplay, about the models. I'm taking it little by little. I think it's going to be a fun, scary game."

He also said it would be a "big mistake" to approach this game project as he approaches a movie project. In the case of interactive entertainment, "you don't have to solve one screenplay, you have to solve 20 screenplays, because you are giving the player the illusion of free will." The most intriguing part is when Del Toro says they're going to be trying things that wouldn't even fly in movies…sounds ambitious.

But at this rate, inSANE is going to be on the next generation of consoles, right? Maybe that's why things are getting pushed back.

I can not wait for the game, it is sounding better everytime I hear about it.

Am I the only one thinking Del Toro should do a video game movie? He seems to know what to do.

I'd pick him or Peter Jackson.

Sounds totally insane. I have high hopes for GTD and his game. I love scary games and there are so few of them.

I think they should change it to next gen consoles, if it comes in 2014.

I read a news article today on Eurogamer about Del Toro, stating that he absolutely hates cutscenes, with a passion (this is a very quick and concise summary of what he said).

While there is truth to what he says (games at its heart are interactive), I believe in most games the utilization of cutscenes enhances the story and immersion.
