The game could sell 10 million units and we still don't think it'd be enough.

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that day one sales for Naughty Dog's Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception hit 3.8 million. Said SCEE spokesman Nick Chaplin:

"Uncharted 3 is a blockbuster and these incredible sales figures reflect that. Consumers are clearly as eager to play the game as critics were to heap praise upon it, and the team at Naughty Dog deserve this fantastic reception at retail."

Thus far, the Uncharted series has sold over 8 million units, and you can expect that number to hit maybe 14 million once we get the lifetime sales numbers for Uncharted 3 . There's every chance that Drake's Deception will become the biggest selling PlayStation 3 exclusive title in the console's history, and again, we say the game deserves all the love it can get.

Even with all the huge titles that released in 2011, we have to say that Uncharted 3 is a cut above. Naughty Dog has an uncanny ability to take everything we know and love and reach a new level of immersion and involvement. Now, how's about Uncharted 4 as a launch title for the PS4?

Congrats to ND. Although Uncharted 3 let me down in parts, overall it was a great game, and as a complete package there are very few games that give you as good a multiplayer and single player experience as Uncharted 3, except of course (this is just me) the far superior Uncharted 2.

U3 may have had better graphics and melee and some truly unbelievable moments that pushed the series in new directions, but it also had silly spiders that added nothing to the plot, puzzles that were stacked on top of each other in the early parts of the game, which dulled the pacing. The ending and the truck chase were retreads of Uncharted 2's ending and cutscene as well which was disappointing.

Chloe who I love felt very forced here and didn't really serve a purpose. And the desert gameplay, while a good idea felt really disjointed. The struggle wasn't paced well, every time I'd get into Drake's struggle, we'd move forward in time to new moment.

However, so many fantastic moments, and overall a great game. Melee is excellent, the chase sections are like watching visual poetry. That origin story? That made a similar scene from The Last Crusade look amateur.

The cruise ship, the plane infiltration and its actual set piece were all brilliant beyond belief as well. Especially the actual set piece. Just… my jaw.. is still on the floor.

Some excellent cutscenes as well that spanned from making my skin crawl, to palpable emotion, to making my damn heart break, to leaving me speechless because of the power of the moment.

And the multiplayer is one of the finest multiplayer components ever released. While I don't like load outs in U2 and prefer U2's level design over U3's, there's no denying that Naughty Dog makes the best multiplayer experience out there. Over 7 full 24 hour days I put into U2 and I'm going to triple that with U3. Great level design, smart kick back system which revolutionizes the killtreaks concept.

Great, varied game modes with excellent co op as well.

Naughty Dog worked very hard on this and despite some structural and pacing flaws especially from London Underground to Yemen, it's still a hell of a game. A first rate studio like Naughty Dog deserves this support because they consistently have made a great series that is finely crafted, with great characters and a rich universe. U2 is one of my favorite single player campaigns ever and is my second fav of this gen (after MGS4) And some of the best multiplayer i've ever played from U2 and U3.

Looking forward to seeing what they do with Uncharted 4. Hoping they revert back to to the picture perfect pacing of U2. Anyone else agree with me on that, or am I crazy?

I didn't read all of it, but I probably will if he copies and pastes it into user reviews.

I got as far as a little past the spider comment. And I have to disagree. This style of game needs to have something inexplicably creepy to add to the mystique. Indiana Jones has creepy things that add nothing, too, like that dinner where they served eyeballs. It added nothing to the story, but it added a mystical element that adds a little piece of wonder.

My thoughts exactly; I couldn't help shrug the feeling, while playing UC3, that it just wasn't as good as UC2. Ofcouse, I NEVER expected ND to top UC2, or even merely match it. The multiplayer this time round definatly trumphs UC2, espeically the coop – only played Borneo so far, and I've had so much fun.

In short, UC2 > UC3 >_ UC1.*
🙂

EDIT: *That more than or equal to, forgot I'm using a keyboard xD

I thought U3 was just as good, even better in some ways than U2. My only gripe about 3 was the pacing seemed a little fast and the best set pieces were late in the game.

I'm with Liam on UC3, it's a great game but UC2 definitely holds a candle over it. Less fighting with the controls and I could still replay any chapter and it still feels just as fresh instead of a chore (the shortened time with Chloe and Elena made me sad). Multiplayer's sort of a toss up though, since both of them have their own pro's and cons underneath it's endless amount of fun. Buut I could always thank UC2's beta multiplayer for getting me into the series 🙂

So maybe that one guy's 4/10 wasn't so accurate? hmmmm maybe I'll get this game now …lol.

Glad to see it doing well, Uncharted is the highest quality game series ever made to date.

If you want to borrow it let me know, I finished it a couple nights ago and I don't mind trading it for a game you may have in your collection that I want to try.

Tom Troll…er…Tom Chick has a history of giving AAA games low scores for no reason. His Uncharted 3 review is absolute garbage. He's just a bitter, out-of-work T.V. actor turned hack video game reviewer. The game is no 10 but it's no 4, either.

Uh Sony? The expression we've been using these days is "shipped."

johnld

what are you trying to get at? did you miss the first day sales part? sales numbers are much more impressive than shipped numbers. sales actually mean that those are in the hands of customers and not sitting in a gamestop bathroom which they use as a stock room.

Alienange
Alienange

You might want to double check that johnld. Sony's idea of sales totals is how many copies the stores have bought, not how many gamers have bought. Which is precisely why Sony should get with it and say "shipped" like everyone else.

last i know, sony is actually one of the companies that actually count sold copies and not shipped like microsoft. Thats what they do with their ps3 numbers. according to the link, it was a 3.8 million global sales.

I saw in the UK ign site that a Sony exec was asked directly if they were shipped numbers or sold numbers, and he said they were sold… I can't find the link now but it's there

Not shipped. It is sold. Sony has been doing this before they even had a gaming division.

"Mhhhm" about 20 times on the first page. And you wonder why video game celebrities even bother to converse with these failures. Just one-liners, one word sentences and the like from these so-called "gamers".

No. Not shipped. It truly is sold. This is a well established practice of Sony's, and it's why their stats read differently than the stats of other console gaming companies.

That's great news to hear because if Uncharted 3 did otherwise xbots wouldn't let PS3 fans forget about it. Side note much to my surprised GF just shipped me a copy of Uncharted 3 but I'm still getting it for Christmas cuz I want the game and the online pass isn't included with the rental and I really want to give co-op a shot.

NO you're wrong Ben that's units SHIPPED not SOLD. Everyone knows that when Sony posts numbers, we have to take it as shipped bcuz Sony is an evil company that lies to the press and sees its consumers like mindless sheep. We should always take M$ word to heart and take it as SOLD; theres no doubt Gears of Bore sold over 3 million on day one (even though sales are free falling for it). Always trust M$ bcuz at least they're most true and honest company on the planet and are nice enough to let you know when they'll ass-rape you ^_^

Really though, it just amazes me that when Sony posts large numbers, the media says its shipped, but if M$ does it its units sold. Just recently Steam's database was hacked and account info was exposed, yet no one blamed Steam for bad security like Sony was accused of. The gaming media is filled with bias xbots that sucks off M$ everyday of the week.
