Battlefield 3 is a great game, and should help EA's bottom line in the long run.

But before we get to that, the publisher has revealed their second quarter earnings report : revenue for the period rose 13.3% to $715 million, but they suffered a net loss of $340 million, a reversal of fortune compared to previous quarters.

Some titles that did well include FIFA 12 (8 million units shipped, 5 million sold), Madden NFL 12 (3 million units shipped), and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has sold 11 million units during its lifetime. Additionally, EA COO Peter Moore said the publisher expects over $1 billion in digital sales, helped along by the likes of The Sims Social on Facebook, which has a whopping 40 million monthly active users.

As for Battlefield 3 , EA says they've already shipped 10 million copies. This has led to increased fiscal 2012 revenue predictions; EA now anticipates $4.05 billion for the fiscal year, up from the previously expected $3.83 billion. Yeah, that game is gonna help a lot.

They've shipped 10 million copies, but i'm eager to see how many will sell in the first week. And i don't know the numbers from previous years, but it seems to me Madden is severely dropping in popularity.

Thats because this years Madden games had serious issues with graphics and gameplay. Also I think people are getting tired of Madden developers taking things out only to add them back 2 years later and call it new. Madden has made no significant leaps since the PS3 came out, almost the same game with a different box and new hype.

welln i dunno how many will sell but i'm honestly thinking of trading in my copy of battlefield 3. I feel like i've been completely shortchanged with it especially trying to get one of its killer selling points battle log working. Sorry but the ps3 version is a poor port from the pc version. I was expecting alot more from DICE after the poor beta but after finally getting my hands on the final product i can safely say they dropped the ball.
If anyone by any chance knows how to import psn contacts into origin that would be great. not that it matters really cause the battle log on ps3 is minimal use at best. ridiculous that you have to use a pc to really get any use for battle log.
Back on topic for a sec though good on the other divisions of EA racking up the sales though

I bought it day 1. Not disappointed at all. Really fun game. Started on campaign for a few hrs. Jumped online where all the fun is at. I hope they sell good and eat into COD sales a bit.

I'm sure the lion's share of their digital revenue comes from the nickel and diming of gamers with DLC. I hope this serves as a wake up call to improve their American sports lineup. They are all in need of a serious refresh.

ea=one of the worst offenders out there when it comes to their over priced dlc. i'll be honest. i dislike them as a company for some reason…you know they want to stick it to consumers hard, and i found all their bf3 trash talking to be a real turn off as well. they also have some the most arrogant employees you will ever encounter in the ea forums or tech support.

Funny thing is EA bought a company similar to Zynga. Zinga made something like $800 million dollars last year on micro transactions. EA wants thier piece of cake too. It's all about the money for EA which I think short changes thier development teams.

Well actually NCAA football suffered same issues as madden. So too did fifa which is huge in Europe. Couple that with the Sims games for computer and you have a Company wide problem with games that dont seem finished. And with different design teams making these games the one constant is EA.

not surprising considering the only big title they have released so far this year is fifa, madden and DS2.
end of year will be much better when BF3 and NFS are included.
not to mention ME3, oh i so cant wait for that!
and not to mention starwars the old republic, whenever that releases!

I don't like EA as a company but do like many of their franchises. I use them and don't let them use me. DS2, BF3, The Run and ME3 are all going to be mine. War in the North doesn't look good to me. The color, poly count and texture work look horrid from the last video I saw. Hopefully I am wrong because I am watching the Bluray Extended Editions of LOTR right now and they are amazing!! I am really interested in NFS The Run. I will have to get that demo next month after U3 has been forever imprinted in my mind!

yeah if the midnight sale for battlefield is any indication of how much they'll sell then they may get close to 10 million copies sold soon. Midnight release was absolutely mad!!! Anyways, the game is pretty much awesome all the way around. I took a break from shooters aside from rage for a long time and it really has made come back to them in a big way. I really don't see how they dropped the ball at all. It's a great game. Like I said before. There will always be those who are never satisfied. It's just how it is.
