We all have to learn from our mistakes.

In a TechRadar interview with Sony senior director of global business strategy and development So Saida, the executive stated that the attack on the PlayStation Network has thankfully resulted in a better all-around service.

Saida said the outage "woke up our dormant customers" and Sony has gone on to improve the platform, the content, and how we access that content. As it turns out, the "new" PSN is actually more profitable:

"We have increased the revenue of games by 14 percent. We have acquired 800,000 active users for Music Unlimited, five percent revenue for Video Unlimited and we now have three million accounts for this service."

Saida added that the Welcome Back package was a definite catalyst behind the upswing in activity and sales; the package included four free games each for the PS3 and PSP, a free one-month trial for PlayStation Plus (or a free two months for existing subscribers), and free access to Qriocity for a month. As we look forward, it seems the PSN is healthier and more robust than ever, but we always to have to remember that cybercrime is often indiscriminate and definitely endless.

So everyone everywhere just needs to remain vigilant.

"So everyone everywhere just needs to remain vigilant."

Ben, I think you just plagiarized the every day motto of Fox News!

I think it's kinda neat how everyone went onto PSN to get their free games and saw how awesome PSN and the store is.

I was amazed at how many people jumped to get LittleBigPlanet and inFamous. I know a guy who talked ALL bad on LBP….until it was free. Then he was on it like hot cakes

Completly & utterly off-topic but IGN gave Uncharted 3 a full blown 10/10! Go read the review (no spoilers…just don't watch any videos), I'm not joking!

The world is coming to an end, IGN gave a PS3 game 10/10….

I don't mean it like that, I just mean…it's not exactly often IGN give out a 10. Last one was GTAIV, last one before that was some Zelda game from 10 years before.

Simple, common sense precautions, strong passwords and remaining always on guard against phishing schemes and other attempts to gain your information. These should be the first things we think of when going online now.

Only thing is though, and I'm sure I'm one of many, is that I use the same password for everything. It's quite a habit. I mean, don't get me wrong, its a preetty damn good password.

I don't use it for especially important things (e.g bank accounts), but I do for practically everything else. :O

I use a different password on anything that has a financial transaction capability than I do on anything else. So if my forum account here, for example, was compromised, there is insufficient information there to let an attacker use the password hash on a more sensitive system. I also try to keep the email addresses I use separate, so it's not even the same email address if it's compromised.

It's a change in habit, and more to remember, but it at least complicates matters for an attacker.

Come to think of it, that's the wise thing to do. I'm the kinda person who needs something bad to happen for they do something about it. I mean, I only have two accounts I'd actually be botherd about if they got hacked, so that isnt as naive as it sounds.

You know your password is a good one if you can't even remember it yourself.

In that case, some of my passwords are literally awesome.

on top of that news, I got screwed up on COD 4 online by a hacker in a hacked match which I thought was running fine until I got a kill, that showed up alot of -#'s. Now I can't play any online matches except for LAN/private matches. Should of looked this stuff up before I headed on to multiplayer. That's it now I think the COD brand is a joke.

i just hope they have learned their lesson, and next time when someone comes bashing the door down predicting armageddon they dont just slam the door in their face.
will be interesting to see what they do about the new jailbreak device that supposedly lets you play new games.
i just hope it does not have any effect on PSN.
not to mention all the PSN games which have now been decrypted allowing anyone to download and play them.
so much for the "unhackable device!".

Reports of a new jailbreak device are, oddly enough, reportedly untrue.
