Yes, one model of the PlayStation Vita will support 3G. And you can always download stuff from the PlayStation Store.
But like many mobile devices, there will be a download limit when operating remotely via Vita's 3G function. According to Andriasang citing an interview with ASCII, a Sony Computer Entertainment representative has confirmed that 3G downloads will be limited to 20MB. At least, this will be the case at the system's launch; the limit could rise in the future.
Of course, the rep also reminded us that both Wi-Fi and 3G users will have access to the Store. Furthermore, as for gamers being concerned about slow upload speeds, the rep said Sony "is providing software makers with support to ensure that titles that don't give the feeling of technical limitations are developed." What are your concerns about the Vita? Everyone seems to have at least one…
Hmmm… That's a pretty strict download cap, but I bet that is to do two things. 1) It will ensure that the data used on the 3G contract will be low, hopefully that is reflected in the cost of the data plan. 2) it will keep the size of Vita specific 3G downloadables low, and that should mean that like PS Minis they are inexpensive. That would help drive some games/applications into that 'disposable game' category that so much Android and iOS stuff inhabits.
Well this just helped finalize my decision on which Vita to buy. Now I'll have an extra $50 to put towards a game.
As long as there's no cap on the WiFi downloads this doesn't affect me. I'll be getting the WiFi only version anyway. My phone can broadcast a WiFi connection and I've got a pretty good data plan with no download size limit (that I know of).
I'll use my PS3 as the 'base' station, and download everything that way. No 3G required for me, unless I want the whole Augmented reality, GPS anywhere stuff that 3G ***might*** enable.
Yeah I'm going for the Wi-Fi only model as well. I know there will be plenty of good titles but I'm really only thinking about Golden Abyss at the moment.
I think the cap makes sense, and as Gumbi said too, it's not much of an issue when you have access to WiFi. As much as the Vita looks appealing, I'll be holding off until I see some Third-Party Games and it's reception. I don't need to relive PS3 Circa Early 2007, but hey PS3 has stepped it's game up Ten-fold, whos to say Vita won't do the same, or be well received and stellar from Day One.
I'll still be getting the 3G version. At home, I have some fast internet, which I can use to download games on, and I really like the option of having internet on the go as well, which is where 3G comes in handy.
Who is providing the 3G service, ATT?
Yes
That explains it. Greedy bastards.
Why are couriers doing this? I thought that we should pay for how much we use??
Couriers do this because casino owners shoot them in the head. Carriers do this because they are greedy for money, or don't want extra devices such as tables and game systems clogging already strained 3G networks.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH FALLOUT: NEW VEGAS LOLOLLLLLLLLLLLL
But yeah typo lol.
Who was planning to download full games over 3G net anyway? Would take forever!
OK, me being non-techy, plus not having a cell phone I'm not sure what that means… does it mean you can only D/L 20 MB cap….at a time, or daily, or is that monthly…or something else completely different than what I'm think it means?????

On my phone i can choose what app that will use 3G and what will only use WiFi when available, this should be easy to do on to Vita as well. But I guess it will be added features for this device too, like PS3's updates.
20Mb is absolutely pathetic. I'll probably just tether it to my cellphone.
Im concerned the vita will sit on store shelfs with that $299 price tag. Nintendo couldn't sell a $259 3DS i seriously doubt people will rush to buy a 3G gaming portable when people got 3 or 4G phones, pads etc. I really want a vita but im not paying that high dollar $259 or $300 when i can put that $$$ to better uses and my ps3 satisfies my gaming needs. Does anybody believe this product will be successful? Im not trying to bash the system i wanna see it win but realistically thinking in this rough economy…
Seriously now? With all the speculation beforehand this price is a good price for what it is. It is a powerful device and we're getting it at a great initial sell. Nintendo is Nintendo, this is not a conversation that they are involved in, they offer things for a different market.
yay! we get to download 1 mini per month!
You will see vita wont sell as people hope. Its a awsome device but who will pay a steep price for a handheld in this rough economy. Playstation gamers couldn't fork $60 (i did) for resistance 3. Like i said im not trying to bash vita cuz i will own one someday but a handheld that cost more than the ps3 with a built in bluray is absurd. $199-$249 is the true sweet spot for vita just saying.
WTF is the point of that?
thats one thing i HATE about the apps store!
im paying for a 2GB/M download limit so why have a 20MB limit towards it?
its just stupid im paying for 2GBs per month but im lucky if i use 100MBs!
id download a hell of allot more games off the apps store if there was no stupid 20MB limit!
