It has become a staple of gaming this generation: the Friends list. Hell, it's such a staple, we have to capitalize the word now.
The PlayStation Vita will have access to the PlayStation Network, of course, but apparently, it boasts a pretty cool feature that we don't currently have when using either the PS3 or PSP.
According to JustPushStart , the Vita will let you view the Friends of your Friends. That's right, simply by tapping the "Friends" icon on the device will allow you to check out the buddy lists for each of your own Friends. Of course, if you don't want people seeing this information, you can make your list private, which is good. Privacy is becoming a key issue in the electronic age and although it might not matter to some, we assume there are gamers who don't want their Friends checking out such details.
But for the sake of building a big group of gaming buddies, it's a great feature. The more people you know and trust, the better your multiplayer experience will be; playing with perfect strangers all the time can be a little boring…and a lot depressing, occasionally.
When I first read this earlier, all I could think was…."noneya"
As in….Ain't "noneya" damned business who's on my friends list!!!!
Say I have BikerSaint on my friends list, he has a PSV and unfortunately… I don't. Will I still be able to make my friends list private, or will I need a PSV to do that? Because if I can't, then BikerSaint will be all over my friends list. Unless we have to start all over on the PSV and add new folks or re add your folks. But your account is tied to the memory stock… so, how will this work out?
Killa,
Apparently, in that case, it defaults to "private". PSNation has an extended hands-on discussion of the PSV in last week's podcast (and probably this week's as well), if anyone's interested in more details.
Nice feature for MP gamers. The Vita does have true cross game chat, right? That feature alone will make things SO MUCH easier to get a game together for MP fans.
Sounds great. I can now look through my friends of friends and add all the usernames along the same vein as:
CutePrincess23
GamerGurl9
ShooterQueen999
Or the best yet!
HotStuff1994 – because you know, high school girls are just the best…
This feature sounds terrible. Another way for annoying people to intrude in peoples' lives.
Another way for you to intrude people's lifes.
It's not more terrible than the fact that anyone out there on the internet right now could see your "ZenChichiri" nickname and maybe click on the link. Not in any way more terrible than that.
( PS: I got your profile here bookmarked on all my computers. How's that for intrusion of your life 😉 )

I know, I overreacted, but you know, if people are trying to find me through my friends of friends and I get messages, requests, etc while I'm playing, then I won't like that very much. I don't want to find myself annoyed with the fact that my friend has a lot of friends that can get access to my profile.
But ah well, it's not THAT bad, just annoying.
I very much doubt they've made it that unsophisticated. I assume they've made it so you can decide that only people on your friends list can send you messages and things like that.
Pretty much the standard when it comes to this kinda stuff.
And hey – overreacting is the spice of everyday discussions 😉

… Or Facebook, or Twitter, or just about every other social media service out there. It's kinda how it works. 🙂

I was thinking the same thing…at least in this instance we can make some use of seeing who we can add as friends to our PSN account. I personally enjoy having friends that I can play online with.
This might not be big to some, but to me it's the little things that count the most. Making the Vita have more features like Xbox Live makes me want the device even more. I can't wait to use this feature and cross-game chat on the Vita.
i just want to be able to assign people nicknames . So Say blahblah99 signs in and i don't remember who that is, i think we should be able to assign a nickname to blahblah99 that could be anything, but for me it would be John Scott or whatever so that way i know who it is. Anyone else agree?
