The End Is Nigh For PlayStation TV

It just never got going.

It appears Sony has announced the discontinuation of PlayStation TV in Japan, as reported by DualShockers .

The device has an "End of Shipments" label on a Japanese website and though there's no specific end date, it's obvious that the end is nigh: They plan to discontinue the system itself and the bundle that comes with a DualShock 3 controller and memory card. You can still get it here in North America, though; it's available for less than $45 at Amazon .

PlayStation TV launched at $99 in the U.S. when it released in October 2014 but we've heard about retailers cutting way back on available stock. It's too bad, too, because the concept was pretty sound. This microconsole lets you play many Vita and PSP titles on a TV, as well as some digital PS1 classics. It can even stream PS4 games from one PS4 console in your home to a separate television via Remote Play.

I've got one. But I've just never used it, which says a lot, right?

BestBuy had a $29.99 online sale for the PSTV soon after it came out, which I grabbed.

BTW,it's such a freaking shame that Sony tends to drops a lot of things so soon after bringing them the ability to use my PSTV well after Sony decides to stop all of their support for this too.

It was a waist. They should have just made all of these games for the ps3, or even the ps4 as well. But they did not because they wanted to keep selling the Vita.

I love my Vita. Greatest handheld gaming system I ever owned. But no handheld can ever beat a console game on a large screen tv.

This is why Sony is having so many financial troubles, they keep coming out with these weird products that aren't properly thought out and they don't even seem to check if there's actually a market for the stuff they put out sometimes.

Total Flop was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard of the PS TV, it's just a weird product for a console maker that doesn't make any sense. Either you're a gamer and then you're gonna buy a PS3/PS4 or even Vita, or you're not and then you're either not interested at all or you'll keep playing mobile games on your android/iphone.

The Move wasn't a total flop alert at launch, but it definitely was after a couple of years of basically no support from Sony whatsoever…

Now comes VR… let's hope they support that one better than so many other non PSx console products.

CNet is reporting that shipments to the US already stopped, at the end of 2015.

I don't think I can link directly to the article, but CNet is reporting that shipments to North America and Europe ended at the end of 2015. So it's already done – what's out there is probably store stock that hasn't sold through yet.

Sony killed it by not including Netflix or Hulu support.
I mean isn't the device by name called PS TV?
Confusing the consumer base won't get you any traction in the market place. Most were already put off and confused by the lack of concise information at launch.

Good product by the way, streams PS4 almost flawlessly and provides Vita/PSP support to your tv.
No complaints here
