The PlayStation Vita has officially launched in Japan and thus far, gamers seem to be responding well.

Undoubtedly one of the biggest draws is the extensive launch lineup. Sony made it very clear that they wanted their new portable to greet the world with a large and diverse assortment of debut software.

And if you're wondering what to expect to see on shelves when the Vita launches here in the US, check out PS Vita Universe , where you will find a list of all 23 titles confirmed for launch. There's even a trailer for each one, so get your fill. It ranges from Square Enix's Army Corp of Hell to the intriguing Little Deviants to the almost guaranteed gem, Uncharted: Golden Abyss . Also, don't forget Zipper Interactive's Unit 13 and a new Katamari installment.

So the games are definitely there. Now it's just a matter of convincing the hardcore fans that it's all worth the cost of admission. According to recent information, the games should cost the same as PSP titles ($40), but will you shell out the $250 for the WiFi-only version or $300 for the 3G model?

Do not forget that although the launch line up features games specifically for Vita, the Vita's capability to play downloaded PSP titles means that the launch lineup also includes all the downloadable PSP titles and PS1 classics. Vita launches with access to an incredibly diverse and deep game library.

I believe they said Vita cannot handle PSOne classics

TheHighlander

I believe that is incorrect. Apart from anything else the idea that the Vita can't handle a PS1 classic is absurd since it can emulate a PSP. Not to mention that PS Suite devices can handle PS1 classics.

Hellish is correct Sony confirmed this awhile ago by saying Vita cannot play ps1 classics at launch. Maybe Sony will have this fixed by the time it launches in the US and Europe.

I have so much mileage left in PSone Classic RPG's I'll have to keep my PSP-2000 around for some time. I've started playing Suikoden again.. recruting more and more dudes for my Castle Greyskul (sorry, it's an unofficial rule, if a game gives you a castle to name, it has to be named Castle Greyskul =p)

And that's just Suikoden. THen there's those just released FF's. There's also Vagrant Story and Xenogears.. sigh. yeah, too many.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF MAN! CAN SOMEONE GET NAMCO TO RELEASE TEKKEN 3!.
It's been like 5 years. I got Tekken 2 several years ago. Then I was all, "okay, maybe in a year they'll release Tekken 3" No, instead 4 years later they release Tekken 1.. Tekken 1? Yes, Tekken 1!
Sigh, Namco please just release Tekken 3. It was only one of the highest ever rated PSX games.

Really?! Thats horrible! The only reason I have kept my PSP is to play PS1 games… nonsense!

I recently bough a perfect condition version of Tekken 3 (Black label), utterly love the game! It has the perfect balance of the early fighting style with the pace, I feel fighters are just too fast now. This game has the animation set at the perfect speed. I'm still addicted to survival mode 😛

Hellish is right and wrong. It's not that the Vita can't handle running PS1 games (come on it's nearly as powerful as a PS3) but it currently is unable to do to reasons Sony refuses to explain.

Highlander, sad to see it, but its true. Seems one of the "famous" PSP hackers has already run unsigned code on the Vita. I picked up the news yesterday. Yip, the first homebrew "Hello World" was run a few hours after the Vita's release.

Method? Using the PSP game save exploits that are still apparent on the PSP today. How? The Vita runs a PSP emulator, and as it emulates the PSP in its entirety, you can use the same exploits on the Vita.

Get ready then for the first Sony feature removal – PSP emulation; that is if Sony cannot plug the hole….

Q!

for now it cant there still working on a ps1 emulator which will release in a future firmware.
disappointing, but hopefully by the time its out worldwide it will be ready for launch.
ah for the homebrew, wow that did not take long!
so how long till the vita turns into the cesspool the PSP is?
and i thought $ony would of learnt their lesson with that!

I'd go with the wifi only version, no extra cash to shell out per month for the 3g. That's if I was in the market to buy one.

Same as you here. And anyway who needs 3g when you have your cellphone for Web browsing. Plus if I really want to play online I'll just share my phone 3g to my vita wirelessly no?

I've got one of these on import from Japan, whether that's a good move or not remains to be seen. I did the same with the PSP and that turned out all good so I'm optimistic

Hopefully it will be here by the weekend all going well with the Japanese and UK postal services, although it will be Parcel Force over here so probably not!!

I've gone for the wifi version, if I really need internet access out and about with no hotspots I can just turn my phone into a hotspot, no need for 3G really.

Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen.

How i have waited for that sequel. 5 Years!

It's the Tenchu of the new age (developed by Acquire who made the original 2 Tenchu games) and reason for my purchase of the Vita on launch!

I'd get the 3g one if Sony were to have a service like Apple's find my iPhone

Probably won't be able to get it on launch day but that's definately an impressive line up. Escape Plan and Gravity Rush look interesting and have potential to be sleeper hits. Uncharted and Unit 13 also interest me.

No Sound Shapes though? I thought that was a launch title.

Wifi version for me as I don't want to pay for 3g. Psp games look better on Vita I been enjoying the comparisons. I wont get it at launch Ill keep a list of games and get it when a rpg releases.

At some point in time that Katamari game shall be mine. Oh yes it shall. The PSP and PS3 Katamaris were such wonderful games. I shall roll the ball for the King again!

So many great games!!! And Uncharted!!! A killer app on launch, along with Modnation, Wipeout and Super Stardust Delta!!

Then there's unique gems like Gravity Rush and Escape Plan. Seriously, Escape Plan looks like THE game to get for the Vita!

Damn, this list just made it so much harder to wait out the second gen model of Vita. I usually have a rule of waiting 2 years to buy new hardware, but this list, along with future titles to come out, just made it damn near impossible to wait that long. 😀

I ordered the 3G…but I realized I hadn't thought about it: Will it have a monthly charge for use? Or is it free, like the Kindle's 3G service?

Jawknee

You have to pay a service provider monthly inorder to use it on a 3G network. They are partnering with Vodaphone in Europe. Not sure who they're using in the USA.

its a shame allot of the first party games, MnR, unit 13, LBP are not launch titles for JP.
im worried the vita will suffer the exact same fate the PSP did.
rampant piracy.
check!……. well at least started.
ridiculous price.
triple check!
3rd parties supporting the device more so then first party.
check!
come on $ony, the PSP would of done SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better if it had more then $E supporting it!
started off so well with syphon filter, then it just copped remakes of ps3 franchises.
sure they turned out awesome, but what about the franchises made on the system?
a device cant survive with just sequels, it needs new IPs too!
something the PSP was seriously lacking from a first party perspective.
