The PlayStation Vita just got even more functional.

As detailed over at the PlayStation Blog , Sony's new portable is getting a new system software update that delivers detailed memory card file management, along with a host of tweaks and improvements.

For instance, the unit can now display up to 500 apps on the home screen, and you can send and receive voice messages between PSN users on the Vita and PlayStation 4. There's even a new calendar app that can be synced with Google Calendar; here's the full list:

— You can now display up to 500 applications on the home screen.

— A Calendar application has been added for PS Vita, allowing you to set up gaming events with your friends. Sync your Google calendar to have all your events with you on your PS Vita. You can also share your favorite events by using the Messages and Email applications.

— A new “Manage Content on Memory Card” option has been added to the Content Manager application. You can now view the data on your memory card, making it easier than ever to manage content on your PS Vita. You can now view memory usage by content type, and delete content and applications.

— You can now send and receive voice messages using the Messages application on PS Vita. Exchange voice messages with your friends and players on PS4 and PS Vita.

The 3.10 update should be available soon, if it isn't already.

Nice, I like it, but could they fix the web browser. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but I have to constantly close the browser and reopen to get pages to load correctly.

I've never experienced this man. Although I rarely use the browser.

Only issue I have had with my browser is my wireless router being next to garbage and constantly losing connection from being more than 10 feet away. But that's just me.

Can Sony also provide an update to fix the lack of software?

There's quite a bit of software for it, it's just mostly niche games that rarely come over to the west.

To get 500 apps on the Vita we're going to need bigger memory cards. Could they be building up to news on new larger cards becoming available?

but still no pause and resume feature, a feature the freaking PSP GO had!
also no vita TV outside JP either, which has to be the biggest stupidest decision ever made!
one of the biggest complaints about the vita is the lack of TV functionality, especially when PSP had it!
they put this out, with the software support it has, and they wonder why its making the ps3s sales on launch look like the friggin wii!

There is a pause and resume feature.

Perhaps if u spent half the time u complain and whine in actually doing something worthwhile…. Oh, never mind.

No sure what you mean by pause-resume. You can pause games by pressing the home screen and again to go back into games.

Unless you mean a pause that holds when you restart the system. Does 3DS do that?

pause the game so its suspended in memory and you can open up another game or application.
it just boggles the mind that $ony can release the successor to the PSP, and it not half half the features that it did!
replacements are suppose to be better in every way, not better in some ways, and worse in others.

Woooohooo. I really truly enjoy and benefit from little releases like this. The calendar will be useful for even no gaming things, since I'm looking at the Vita longer than I am a phone.
