Media Invitation Hints At Slimmer Vita For US, Europe?

Even if this does result in a slimmer Vita for North American and European regions, I still say they need to focus on the games. That's critical.

Anyway, it appears that Sony is about to announce something that involves the concept of "slim." An invitation has been sent out to the media (pictured here) and it says:

"Following the biggest launch in PlayStation history, join us for an introduction to the slimmest."

Sony launched a slim model of the Vita in Japan last year. That was supposed to be 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter, but it lost that gorgeous 5-inch OLED screen. Instead, they replaced it with an LCD display, which I personally wouldn't like as much. At the time, Sony said they had no plans to distribute the slimmer version outside of Japan, but that stance may have changed.

Then again, there's a chance that Sony slimmed down the PlayStation 3 even further. That typically happens soon after a new hardware launch; the last-gen machine gets a "small" treatment. The PS2 shrunk like mad, remember? We'll have to wait and see what Sony has in store…

Its probably the Slim Vita.

Sony was trying to save production costs with a slimmer Vita using an LCD screen. That version took off in Japan. So they probably see that as a success and they're now getting ready to phase out the OLED screen version in the rest of the world.

The Vita's OLED is absolutely stunning. There are some impressive new LCD's out there, but nothing yet that compares. I'm glad I got the original Vita. I have no interest in an LCD version, even if it is slimmer and lighter.

I wouldn't mind getting a super slim PS3 though, as long as I can still swap out the HDD. Man, if they can give us a Slim PS3 on the same scale as the slim PS2 was, then I'm sold already. That could easily share shelf space with a PS4 🙂

They need serious retail games. Its nothing more than a psp go unless they have retail games to play on

It's obviously for the Vita TV. The Vita TV is slimmer (13.6 mm) than the Vita PCH-2000 (15 mm) and they say it's for European and North American regions (because Japan already has it).

Hopefully, we'll see the Vita TV show up too. It needs to have DLNA including MKV support which the PS3, sadly, does not have. I'd buy at least two on day 1.

cant be the ps3 that says the slimmest, meaning the slimmest playstation product ever released.
theres no way in hell there getting the ps3 down to the thickness of what even the original vita had!
i hope this isent just bringing the redesigned vita to the western market, hopefully its a total redesign of the vita, and most importantly keeping the only worthwhile part of the vita, the OLED display!
