We already know that all PS4 games will support the Remote Play feature on Sony's portable, the PlayStation Vita. The exception to the rule will be games that require the PlayStation Eye.

However, gamers still had an important question concerning that Remote Play feature: Will it work only via local wi-fi, or will it also work online? If it worked online, you could stream your game even when you're not home. That's a pretty nifty bonus, is it not? The good news is that Sony Worldwide Studio president Shuhei Yoshida has indeed confirmed that Remote Play will operate online (via DualShockers ). He said via Twitter that it'll "depend on your Internet connection quality," but that's a "yes," right?

Do you think the PS4/Vita connectivity will entice more gamers to invest in the handheld? We hope it will.

I can see me using my Vita even more when the PS4 releases. First thing I'm doing is trying BF4 on my Vita.

That would be a disadvantage for you online (if you will play online-multiplayer). But hey, want to raise my K/D ratio, go ahead 🙂

Well I have nothing to worry about seeing how when I'm out I don't really use my Vita since I'm participating in social activities… Alright, that was a lie I have no "social activities" when I'm out and about.

I'm certainly excited to play full games via remote play but my concern is since its all done over wifi the input lag issue will not be resolved. There's zero lag with the Wii U and its gamepad and it makes playing games off TV just as enjoyable as playing them on TV. Hope this is something Sony can address.

It will still depend on your connection. I am assuming the ps4 will do most of the computation and whatnot but your upload speed should be good enough to do it. There is no lag in ico or god of war for me, at least there wasn't, we got a new provider and upload speed is about 1mb. I think it is supposed to be 3 or higher and it can't drop.

I think he means in terms of local wifi.

I know he is but if your upload speed sucks it will be very choppy. Very choppy.

Upload speed would only effect you if you are using WiFi away from your house, thankfully! At home you wouldn't have to worry about upload speed. Your upload speed with the Vita will be based on obstructions like walls or floors. If you are sitting next to your WiFi it will be the same for everyone. Some could argue that it depends on your router/hot spot at that point if it's of good quality or not.

The most important thing is that the PS4 will be doing all the work and just streaming video, sound and controls to your Vita. There will be no degradation in quality. Those CPU cycles will be separate from the Gakai/Playstation Cloud architecture in the PS4. I really think Sony is going to surprise a lot of people with how well it works.

Unlike the WiiU it will work anywhere. The WiiU is really line of site in my house. If I am close it works fine, but if I go up stairs my connection dies. Also, if I am on my couch which is on the same floor as my WiiU in a different room and move one seat away it dies. This is going to be huge for Sony. There are a lot of families that fight for TV time and this will allow us to lay in bed or where ever and continue that awesome Boss fight!

For all the smack people talk about Wii U's tech, the gamepad just works brilliantly for remote play. No lag whatsoever as long as you're within a certain range. Playing PS4 games MILES away over the internet sounds amazing, but honestly, what I really want is to be able to take the Vita in the next room and have it stream PS4 games as well as the Wii U gamepad does.

The imput lag was improved ever so slightly with the vita/ps3 remote over the PSP/PS3 remote play. But it's still laggy.

Yea that's the one let down about the Wii U for me. You have to stay within 25ft of the console for the gamepad to communicate with the console without issues.

wondering what the minimum speed will be for quality gameplay over the internet. Visit my parents often and they live in the country and have pretty slow internet, so I'm hoping it plays well with even a minimum connection.

i think you mean R2 and R3 buttons and it technically does when you use the rear touchpad as L2 L3 R2 R3

You'd have to have two solid connections going at once and a mean infrastructure between.

If it works well enough I might be interested in buying one. But that's still going to be a little down the line. My priority is the PS4, and there's no way I'll be able to afford one for at least a couple months after the launch.

i already bought a vita.. also hasnt remote ply worked online for awhile now? I recall being able to turn my ps3 on via my psp while not being home via online wi fi

frylock25

yes it has worked online but what you just described it about all we could do with the psp. even now with the vita and a ps3 you can only play a handful of games. ps4 has been designed from the ground up to have almost everything work with remote play.

much like ffvsxiii, remote play is something that was promised this gen and something we will actually get next gen.

So now I have to buy a PS Vita, AND a tablet of some sort. To make sure I am getting the FULL next-gen experience.

This next-gen is going to be expensive! And why do Ubisoft keep making awesome collectors editions. $190AUD for the ACIV Black Chest edition, and $170AUD for the Watch Dogs Dedsec Edition.

You don't have to buy anything. Just the ps4.

Yea this is just a side option. You'll still get a full experiance with just the PS4 but it is pretty cool playing games off TV.

will work via the internet?
well no sh*t, what else would it work off?
might want to put a mobile in front of that!
and no f*cking way in hell is this going to work off mobile internet!
well at least not here, even LTE 4G is a snail crawl!
and not many suburbs have it yet still in early roll outs.

Some people may have thought it'd only work at home using local Wi-Fi. For example, when the TV's occupied and you can just go in to another room and use the Vita to play. Quit being an ass

I actually wasn't thinking along these lines, as I'm really more concerned about being able to play PS4 games around the house, so this is a bonus for me. Not sure if I'd get to use it outside of the home, but it's nice that the possibility is there!

CrusaderForever

This is the camp I fall into as well. It certainly is a very nice bonus. Traveling and using your Vita in a hotel would be a good example of this being very useful.

The best part is that no other console offers this! This is Sony's idea and if it works like I am expecting there will be a lot of XBone and WiiU only gamers that will want this. This will sell PS4 and Vitas as long as it works like it should.

I agree, I was, and remain, most interested in just being able to play PS4 games via Vita around my home. But the thought of playing my favorite console games while traveling for work, vacation, etc.? If it works, that is an enormous feature. Your entire console library on the go!

Thinking about this, this may be a big incentive for buying games digitally so you can access them remotely all the time. I may have to jump over to that other story's comment section…

I would personally like to be able to play my PS4 via my Vita in bed whilst my wife is watching some dodgy romcom on the TV. 🙂
