We can't decide if this is good news or bad news from the standpoint of future sales.

When we asked the community if they planned to purchase the PlayStation Vita in 2013, there were two major groups: The first, the slight majority, said they have no intention of ever getting Sony's new portable. The second large group said they already own one.

The conclusion being that unless you're already a Vita owner, you really don't want it. Of course, that's understandable given the lack of AAA software available on the market, and the fact that the new home consoles are looming large on the horizon. What we'd like to assume is that with the likes of Killzone: Mercenary , combined with the arrival of the PlayStation 4 (which will have all sorts of Vita connectivity features), Vita sales will rise. That's an assumption, though. And you know what happens when you assume…

Anyway, you'd think our poll question this week would be obvious, as Microsoft's Xbox One was just announced last week. But it now seems pointless to ask, "What do you think about the Xbox One?" Nobody likes the thing. So let's ask this- Do you believe that was a big enough gaff to give Sony the edge in this country? In other words, do you think the PS4 might actually outsell the Xbox One right out of the gate? In some ways, it doesn't seem possible. But after that horrendous unveiling, well…

I'll probably have to buy one just to get some use out of all of those Vita games I've been downloading from Playstation Plus!

I have a Vita. Yes, that PS Plus is great but too bad most of the games given I had bought already (Uncharted, Wipeout, Gravity Rush, and the upcoming Blaze Blue game.). I love te graphics and frankly the fact I can start a game, put the machine to sleep, and come back to it at my leisure.
As to the new Xbox: I wanted something that would push Sony to do more and keep the gaming industry moving forward. This feels like XBOX WII. I guess everyone complainign how the Wii U didn't look special with the next gen coming won't get to say that still. The Wii U and Xbox Wii One will be far behind Sony in gaming.

I think after that debacle MS is in serious trouble, and if they don't repair all this damage at E3 the PS4 is gonna dominate. They will have to showcase so much gaming awesomeness that it makes all the horrible restrictions worth it, and that's a hard argument to make.

A friend of mine in Singapore was telling me all those extra feature of the XBO won't work there. If that's true, since they took their focus off the games, maybe they hurt themselves on the global market.

Anyone outside the Americas or UK wanna chime in??

As a confessed Xbox prefer-er for the last two generations, I can flatly state that there's no way for MS to fix things. It's not the horrible presentation or the slips and foibles so much as the “product” they're trying to push. The new Xbox is restrictive, intrusive and removes options (I would even say freedoms) from the gamer/consumer.

That appears to be the new paradigm and holy grail of marketing standards. The Kindle Fire is another prime example of content control and intrusive marketing overwhelming consumer friendly design. I'm old fashioned, I guess, assuming that's not an oxymoron when it comes to technology. When I purchase tech, I want control of the tech itself as well as the software/hardware I add to and use with it. I want options and choices, limited only by my specific needs and personal desires. The proprietary HD in the 360 was the first bad signpost on the road that's led to where MS is now. Sony is certainly guilty with it's memory sticks, MiniDisc, etc… They however, with the PS4 are proving that they've listened to their market and have adopted to a more consumer-friendly model again.

The Xbox One pretends to offer a limitless experience with many-many options, most of which I doubt were desired by the average gamer. From my limited perspective I see the X1 primarily as a bio-metric data gathering, personal space invading marketing tool and consumer outlet, that strips options and freedoms from the dupes that purchase it.

“Hi, my name is Apocrita and I am a recovering X-MS-thing-adict…”

/me steps down from stump.

And all of that to say, MS can't fix the broken model they adoted, no matter what games are on offfer. They're asking thinking consumers to sacrifice far too much to primarily benfit MS.

Hopefully all the other Xboxers will also realize that this has been Microsoft's MO all along, while Sony has (mostly) supported developer and gamer choice.

Also, what World said.

The PS4 will absolutely outsell the XboxOne in the states. The XboxOne wont have a year head start and Sony is showing they've learned quite a bit from the dismal PS3 launch.

i think sony and the ps4 will rule,

after last week, M$ might dig into their deep pockets to try and steal
some multiplat games and make them exclusive for X1.

that, imo will be the only thing that could save the box

hardly surprising.
ludicrously high price + extortionately expensive accessories + very few games released + very few games to look forward to = a very unattractive device!

i cant see the ps4 selling the most in the US, M$ has gained such a market share over the past few years, and all their marketing and focus is going to be on that so i cant see anything changing.
plus americans are like asians in so many ways, asians refuse to buy anything thats non asian and americans refuse to buy anything thats not american.
well, thats the gist of it anyway.

You're not wrong about the reasons why the Vita hasn't sold. It's an expensive device with limited appeal beyond a certain niche. However, all they they'd have to do to change that is to lower the price, include a storage card and fund some games and the Vita could sell at least as well as the PSP.
I don't know where you got the idea that Americans will only buy American-made goods. Sony sold 50 million PS2's in North America and five of the top ten selling cars in America in 2012 were foreign makes (four of those Japanese). We'll buy foreign products without hesitation if we see them as a good value.

Well…….. Xbox ain't as popular as PS outside the US, now that X-One seems to be focusing more on something that's only in the US, ouch is all I can say for Microsoft.

The last handheld I had was an Atari Lynx (II)…S.T.U.N. RUNNER rocked on that thing! I didn't play it that much and it got stolen in an apt. robbery and I just didn't feel any need for a handheld after that.

It is definitely going to be a battle in the States for the PS4. It should win on principle alone but the X brand is very strong out here. I feel MS will do what they did with Kinect and flood the Media with Xbox One adverts to try and drown out Sonys PS4. The brand is so strong that I feel that for the 4 to truly dominate the X must totally flop. Alot hinges on this years E3. To me the only way MS can come even close to rekindling any speck of interest by me would be to make a spectacular showing of some "INNOVATIVE" "AAA" "BRAND NEW IP"! They would have to literally blow me away. Even then… I still don't see myself using that box. But I am a firm believer that real competition stirs creativity. What happens if the Xbox One truly becomes the Xbox-Done?

I hope for a new revolution of PlayStation in the USA. Can't wait for E3 for a clearer picture of the coming console war. And i really can't wait to bring the PS4 home. I wonder what I will name it? Lol..

I question that, I would be interested in getting a Vita, but I just have yet to see many titles that entice me. That could all change with some announcements at E3, but for now I see the Vita being just as weak as the Wii-U. The majority of interesting titles are ports or spin offs of established franchise. More titles like Gravity Rush will certainly do the console some favours.

From the 'Xbox Inconsistency's' announcement, I am not convienced at all. The features to focus on an 'all in one' universal appeal seem to have forgotten the core appeal of a video game system. But Kinect is the biggest intimidation of the lot having a camera spying in your living room. I certainly wont be buying one and I would go as far to say I would avoid going on the console if I were visiting a friends house. But I think all 3 consoles will have a lot o unveil at this E3, which will be the deciding factor for the majority I believe – Though from now I can see myself getting a PS4. Though I am very tempted by the Wii-U for this new Xenoblade title, so I am hoping for big things at E3 to make my final decision.

I hate to sound like I'm defending the box here but… The folks at MS aren't total idiots, they know they need to bring the games on hard at E3. I suspect they plan to do just that. And they still have plenty of time to address the issues that gamers appear to be most upset about.

Sony, however, has a HUGE leg up right now. I hope they keep the momentum going. A strong E3 showing with some big name exclusives and the right price tag could very well seal the win for Sony.

I can't wait for E3! The battle is on.
