Sony: Balance For This Year’s TGS To “Shift Towards Vita”

Sony is dedicated to the PlayStation Vita. They've made that abundantly clear.

And you'll see more evidence of that at this year's Tokyo Game Show, apparently. In speaking to Famitsu (as cited by Andriasang ), Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Hiroshi Kawano said the next Game Heaven event focusing on the new portable would be held "soon."

Further, he said he thinks the balance for this year's TGS will shift to the Vita, which sort of implies the PS4 won't be the center of attention…as if anybody was really expecting that. Anyway, the more attention for the Vita the better; software is critical and the fall is shaping up nicely. Assassin's Creed III: Liberation and Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified could be huge, and there's the rumor that Medal of Honor: Warfighter is also Vita-bound .

Of course, many gamers are waiting on news of a price drop, too. Maybe if the focus will be on the Vita at TGS, that's when we can expect news of a price cut…? You never know.

TGS Sony announcements is sort of weird for me. We might mostly see a lot of Japan only titles. The PSP had had a lot of those. Some Publishers stateside can't see the value of Localization.

Take Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (or Monster Hunter Portable 3rd), it has a huge following outside Japan. I'm not sure how big it is in the US but here in the Philippines, it is big. It is right up there with Tekken here in the city I live in. And we can only play with the Japanese version because there has been no attempt at a localization.

I don't remember EVER seeing what the 1st Game Heaven was, and I searched online for a full week.

Hell when I asked Ben at the time, even he didn't know .

So I hope Sony doesn't play "Hide & Seek" with the 2nd GH too.

It was just a matter of time. I also heard that Foosball and Puddle are coming to Vita next week! Trying to finish up Gravity Rush and I must say the challenges are very challenging! It's going to take me a while to Platinum GR. A quarter of the way through Assassin's Creed II and I am blown away at how much better II is than I. Cannot wait for ACIII and Liberation!

That's great and all but I just want something about FFVersus and The Last Guardian. It would be nice to find out there will be a standard PSP version of Type-0 here in the US but I bet we just get the Vita one to help sell the hardware.

Good to know I expected Vita to have more attention at E3. Hopefully there will be some awesome japanese games at TGS

I just want a flow of PS2 RPG's to make their way over to Vita. Preferably FF and Xenosaga. I can really jive with getting the lazy pace of RPG's and the pick up and play in-between the cracks style design of a mobile device. When things get dull, even for 5-10min, just whip out my PSP and do some gaming and then pocket it in less than a few secs with the auto resume feature. It's nice.

PS2 classics for Vita = gold mine. You have to think that's en route, just really frustrating they didn't have something ready to go right out of the gate. PS1 and 2 are two of the most celebrated consoles ever, a robust online store with regular re-releases, a la Nintendo's Virtual Console, would make the Vita infinitely more appealing. Fingers crossed Sony gets a good plan together to turn things around for Vita, I desperately want it to succeed (and for it to be MUCH cheaper 🙂

i certainly hope so!
but why TGS, whats happening at gamescom?
they really need to bring some unique new franchises onto the vita!
it has plenty of sequels and games you can already play on the ps3, we really need some unique games you can only find on the vita!
and unique rare experiences at that, things like gravity daze such a cool game!
since david cage is rumoured to be working on several games besides beyond, wouldent it be cool if he was working on something specific for the vita?

1 or 2 suprises for the Vita would be welcomed (and I'm not talking about already announced/released PS3 games making their way to the Vita), and The Last Guardian making an appearance with…..*gasp* a release date. Is that too much to ask? I keep getting my hopes up that we'll hear something soon, but at this rate it might as well be a PS4 title.

I think i just peed my pants just playing through the God Of War Acension Demo. We don't need the PS4 when we can still get games like that. AMAZING!
