Them’s Fightin’ Herds Sparks Outrage As Development Ends, No Story Mode

Them’s Fightin’ Herds sparked backlash as developer Mane6 announced that it would end active development after the Season 1 content pass. The game was initially a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fighting fan game before Hasbro caught wind of it and sent a cease & desist, leading to a whole new cast of characters and crowdfunding campaigns, funnily enough creatively led by show creator Lauren Faust.

On Steam (thanks, Xbox Nerds), the developer showcased two new characters in 2024, but buried at the bottom of the post was the news that after Season 1, content would come to a halt. On top of that, it will also release another stage, which was poised to be part of the game’s beyond Season 1, starting with Restricted Section, a new stage.

The biggest issue with Mane6 halting the development of the fighting game is this encompassed the sought-after Story Mode, which was a promised feature on its crowdfunding campaigns, meaning at least some of the donors put money down knowing it would get a Story Mode.

All we can really say is we hope the team doesn’t return with another crowdfunded project, as it would just seem like it lost interest in Them’s Fightin’ Herds without fully releasing the game promised on its crowdfunding campaigns.
