Good chemistry within the dev Square Enix team led to a sub-four-year development cycle for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Anywhere from 80 to 90% of people working on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake were also working on Rebirth.
Game director Naoki Hamaguchi spoke to Bloomberg (via Eurogamer), and stated that they were able to work as a team and find a “great flow and tempo of game development.” Considering the game is still the same at its core, we can also assume the fact the game wasn’t made without source material probably helped, as well.
The main goal of Rebirth is to be able to reach the “consumer of today” and to be accessible for new players, as Hamaguchi is very much aware how hard it can be to get into Final Fantasy 7, according to an interview with GadgetMatch.
“It was quite clear who to go to if we had a certain question or problem we were trying to solve. We were able to work together as a team [sic], achieve this great flow and tempo of game development.”
