The tutorial isle, now known as Isle of Grom, is set to be a more fleshed out skate spot in an update for Full Circle’s Skate, but there’s a massive catch — it’s paywalled. While the game is free-to-play and microtransactions are a given within that space (not to mention it’s backed by EA), fans have dug up not-too-old statements surrounding the game’s model.

When announcing this, people swiftly called them out, as the game was promising there would be no maps that would be locked behind a paywall. This led to them hiding behind the “plans change” statement while also saying they’re actively listening and will continue to shape the game alongside its community.

There seems to be a way to get limited-time access through Rip Chips, the earnable in-game currency, but of course this isn’t the crux of the problem, more like how players understandably feel betrayed at how they promoted the game. Plans do change, especially with early access titles, but it’s not shocking that players are pushing back with previous words as recently as a week ago.

Skate‘s Isle Of Grom Rundown As We Know It

  • March 10-April 14: Only those who have Skate Pass Premium will have access to the island.
  • April 14-May 5: Open access to all players, when a special in-game event will take place.
  • May 5-June 2: Those who don’t have Skate Pass Premium can visit Isle of Grom by spending 500 Rip Chips (earnable in-game currency) to get a ticket, which allows access for 24 real-time hours.
