After what feels like a long slumber, Silent Hill f has finally allowed us our first look into the small town of Ebisugaoka, after a momentary flutter of the eyes upon it’s first announcement back in October 2022. It comes after a mixed reception for the free Silent Hill: The Short Message, and last year’s evidently far better received remake of Silent Hill 2. This additionally marks the first fully original title in the series since Silent Hill Downpour back in 2012.
Siloent Hill f (trailer below) is developed by Neobards Entertainment, the story’s written by renowned author Ryukishi07, of various When They Cry episodic visual novels, as well as the four part series Rose Gun Days, the soundtrack largely composed by the legendary Akira Yamaoka, as well as Kensuke Inage, credited with work on Tekken 8, the 2019 Samurai Shodown, and Star Fox Guard. The monster and character designer is Kera, a currently not quite as well known talent who previously worked on Romancing Saga, and was also the monster artist for Spirit Hunter NG, a fantastically horrifying survival horror title in it’s own right.
You’ll note, Ebisugaoka, and not the titular Silent Hill. Silent Hill f takes place in the former small Japanese village back in the 1960s, where the protagonist, a young girl by the name of Shimizu Hinako, discovers her hometown being enveloped in fog. This development, apparently far less common than one would think, turns the small town into a waking nightmare that she must make her way through, lest… well. We’ll see, now won’t we?
Silent Hill f may finally be waking up, but it’s not yet fully awakened, no current release date is known, but it will be coming to the PlayStation 5, PC, and the Xbox Series X and S.
How’re we feeling about SH:f? It’s been a long sleep for the Silent Hill series, are we thinking it’ll be waking to the sun peaking above a… let’s be honest, still very foggy village, or to a even foggier one with a lot less hope in it? Please, let us know below.
This would be the 4th or 2nd SH that doesn’t take place in Silent Hill. If you count Homecoming which takes place in Silent Hill before it was founded as silent hill and 4: The Room which takes place mostly in the neighboring city and only in SH for a brief moment of the game
