While Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake was among those used in PS5 Pro promo a lot, when it dropped, the reception as far from glowing. This led to a patch that interestingly axed a key PS5 Pro feature.
Per Digital Foundry on Twitter, it appears that, following the patch, the proprietary PSSR was replaced with Unreal Engine 5’s stock TSR in the game’s Performance Mode. The removal of Sony’s proprietary supersampler, though, has also dashed many of the reported issues.
Additionally, the Silent Hill 2 Remake’s frame rate is better, hitting a more stable 60 FPS following the patch. Just another reason to be wary of Sony’s $700 “for hardcore gamers” mid-gen fresh.
