Drakengard For PS4? Sadly, Not Enough Money In The Till

Without the start-up cash, you just can't make the game.

Drakengard 3 launched for the PlayStation 3 in Japan in 2013 and it's slated to come to the US some time this year. So, might we also see a new installment for the PS4?

A fan asked series director Taro Yoko on Twitter whether or not we can expect such a project. Unfortunately, Yoko replied:

"Thank you for your message. I hope to make the game for PS4 but I can't have enough money for development. :("

A later Twitter reply from another fan suggested a Kickstarter campaign, which wouldn't be a bad idea. Drakengard has been one of those niche franchises that only caught on with a select few here in the west, but a sequel done right could be excellent. However, resources are always essential and if you don't got 'em, nothing happens. Who wants to loan Yoko and Co. some money so they can get started?

I'd like to know something about the game, I'm happy to get the PS3 version cuz let's face it we need our Japanese games no matter what. What's it about? When's it coming? How were the reviews? Is it an RPG? Why won't anyone in Japan give their developers more than 10 bucks to make their games?

It's a prequel to the earlier games and also ties into NieR somehow. You play as a girl called Zero, who is on a quest to kill her five sisters. You can fight directly as Zero, or upon her dragon, Mikhail, who has several different abilities. It's an action RPG, no release date is currently set outside of 2014. Famitsu gave it 34/40 (9/9/8/8), while Dengeki gave it 100/90/85/95, praising the story and pick and play nature of the gameplay, while claiming that it is "satisfying". Also supposed to be about 40 hours long.

Can't help you with that last question though.

I'm guessing that S-E are waiting to see how well it sells over here before thinking about moving forward with it. Drakengard 3 is on my radar, but if it does only get a digital release here strong odds are that I won't get it.

It seems to me that S-E are just going with a spaghetti test approach and throwing things at the consumer wall to see what sticks: Sleeping Dogs, Hitman, Tomb Raider, Lightning Returns, Drakengard 3, KH ReMixes, Murdered, Thief, Deus Ex. There's a lot of diversity there and most of it pretty good, so it makes sense that they move on with what the consumers seem to like.

Good point, that a list of unfocused gaming priorities.

on gameplay yes its an action RPG hack and slash with the ability to use a flying dragon on ground troops theirs also Aerial missions with your dragon cant speak for 3 but they were kinda similar to Panzer dragoon in 1 and 2

what surprises me is on JP PSN drag on dragoon 3 aka drakengard 3 has reached #3 for PS3 games in japan

@Lawless Square enix aren't the developers of drakengard 3 Access games
which the guys were originally from Cavia games which disbanded the team and they moved to Access games
Square enix in this case is just the publisher

expect a dark if not darker story than Nier

also history lesson drakengard 1s final ending litterally lead into Nier
your chasing the queen grotesquerie through a dimensional warp portal you kill it and you and your dragon get shot down in tokyo and the credits role with no music

note drakengard 1 had 5 endings

warning descript explicit Content
drakengard 3 my favorite character so far is 3 she likes to make dolls and she wants to make a perfect doll so she cuts open people with dual scissors to learn how their organs work

Ah, thanks for the clarification on the developer there, Lunar. Doesn't S-E hold the rights to the series though? Then again, the Yoko's response seems to indicate that it could very well be in his own hands… Strange.

And I do love the backstories for the sisters; they're just so weird.

Very interested in this game, Nier being one of my favourite games this gen. I have yet to hear anything on a European release, if that should never happen I will be importing a US version for sure.

I'll definitely pick up part 3. I loved Drakan: The Ancient Gates and this sounds at least somewhat similar, being an action / RPG with combat on a dragon. I also LOVED Nier so this is a definite must buy for me.
