Destiny Slated To Release Worldwide On September 9, 2014

The release date might be a little later than originally anticipated, but at least we've got the date.

Bungie has announced that the highly anticipated shared-world shooter Destiny will launch worldwide on September 9, 2014. The beta test will kick off in the summer and will come first to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4; the Microsoft platforms will get it after that debut.

Previously, the developer said to expect Destiny in "early 2014," although many retailers were giving it an approximate June date. September 9 isn't too late, though, and remember that pre-ordering the game automatically lands you a position in the beta; for now, that's the only way to get a spot in the test. Said Bungie in a statement:

"Destiny has always represented a new beginning for our team. It was born from brave possibilities. We dreamed of a renewed and independent Bungie. We found partners willing to bet big on some crazy new ideas with us.

Every new build brings us closer to our original vision. With those goals in sight, we intend to use every moment from now until the release of the game to ensure that Destiny lives up to your expectations, and our own."

Bungie has said in the past that they're not exactly sure how to classify Destiny , as it has elements of the FPS, MMO, RPG and action/adventure genres. That should mean that it'll appeal to a very wide audience of gamers, and don't forget that Bungie produced the legendary Halo series. Personally, I definitely see the Halo influence in Destiny ; I just hope the new project has far better weapons.

I was really hoping for a late spring launch. Thats kind of unfortunate. Thats the bad part of revealing games so soon. I wish the industry wasnt so needy for news.

So when they said spring 2014, they were talking Southern Hemisphere. My bad. I misunderstood.

Actually, there are going to be so many great games coming this year – I don't even care it's not coming until the Fall. I'll get it then!

At least it has a date, finally.

I have an enormous backlog of PS3 games, and a slowly growing backlog of PS4 games.

I can wait to enjoy what looks to be an awesome game.

sigh, another massive game releasing in the massive end of year spet – nov time frame.
why is it illegal to release games in the quieter months?
this would be the perfect game to release in june or july.
its not enough having 5 games per week to play, but you have to have 5 games per week to play which are massive games like this which take forever to finish!
publishers really need to learn how to look at calendars, and plan their releases accordingly!

Honestly, from the gameplay trailers we've seen, I think TitanFall may be more successful of the two. I know it's Bungie and everything but when I saw the gameplay trailer last year I couldn't help but think it was too over hyped. I doubt I will be getting either myself anyway.
