PSXE Poll Update: The PS4 Is The Only Console We Need!

Well damn, that wasn't close.

I've always been a multi-console owner, dating all the way back to my SNES/Genesis days. I also know for a fact that a great many PSXE readers (perhaps the majority) typically have multiple systems each generation as well.

But things are certainly polarized heading into the next generation. Our latest poll asked gamers which consoles they intend to own in the upcoming generation of hardware, and the vast majority replied, "Just the PS4." In fact, that response tallied 12 times more votes than any other option; a few said "PS4 and Wii U" and "all three," but the results are definitely clear. It seems a great many have thrown in their lot with Sony and the PS4, and they don't see any reason to have another gaming machine. Well, Sony has done their job well thus far, yes? PR-wise, they definitely have.

This week, after seeing that awesome gameplay premiere of Grand Theft Auto V , do you believe Rockstar's latest is a cinch for Game of the Year? Does it at least have a chance? Or will it lose out to Bioshock Infinite , The Last Of Us , or one of the other titles that are scheduled to release in 2013?

I don't see how GTA V could possibly beat The Last Of Us? It would have to totally re-invent the Sandbox genre just to get close to it, if my opinion counted for anything. It will no doubt out sell everything else on the market, but TLOU is something pretty special and needs to be recognised for it. Bioshock Infinite will be tough for GTA to get passed also.

Hey Ben, i dont suppose you got the actual numbers for the last poll? i wanted to see the final tally but missed it.

Also, i feel GTA:V will get a couple GotY awards but nowhere near as many as Bioshock: Infinite or The Last of US, and we still got Beyond: Two Souls coming out in October alongside Batman: Arkham Origins.

For me GotY has to be The Last of Us, because it was such an amazing game and it was a completely new IP.

Under the current poll you can click a link that says "Previous Poll Results". It's right under the "Submit Vote" button for the current poll.

Considering the high expectations I have for any title bearing the 'Grand Theft Auto' name, the gameplay trailer for 'V' definitely impressed. But even so, I could never just hand it the 'Game of the Year' title in the same year as 'BioShock Infinite' and 'The Last of Us', and when 'Beyond: Two Souls' hasn't even been released yet.

GTA V is certainly no lock. The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite have already been released and are fantastic (TLoU is my pick so far for GOTY) and Beyond: Two Souls will likely be in the running as well. I also haven't counted out the possibility of Killzone: Shadow Fall really surprising people. It seems like the developers are going all out with this one. But I will say, Rockstar is probably the second best developer of this gen right behind Naughty Dog and if it can deliver on what it's trying to do with GTA V, then absolutely the game has a chance to be the best of the year.

I'll have to wait till GTAV actually releases first. If I have to judge it by production value and sheer scale (not that GOTY is based on it), I'd have to give it to GTAV. GTAIV was one of the most expensive game to make, and this current one looks to be even more.

As of now, it's clearly TLoU, but that's only because I've seen and played it as opposed to trailers like GTAV and Beyond Two Souls.

If I have to bet on it, I'd say GTAV. I mean it simply looks like everything an open sand box can be, with top notch production value. The freedom is insane.

Oh and the Wii U/PS4 combo comes in a close second. 😛

Joking aside, its great to have more than one console. Especially two that offer such differing experiences.

If you are into Zelda at all pick up that Wind Waker remake at some point too. It's one of the best Zelda games made. It'll be awesome for first time players since the visuals and some of the controls have been heavily updated.

That a Monolith Soft RPG does look pretty sweet too. I'll likely pick that up as well. Not sure about Bayonnaise 2. I'll probably pick that up down the line. Cool of Nintendo to support a sequel for the fans of the first game.

If you like adventure games with puzzles, dungeons, good diverse combat, side quests and a fun narritive, you will like the Zelda series. Wind Waker is especially good.

I was going to vote for just owning the PS4, but I know I will eventually get the Xbox One and Wii U in a couple years or so after I have graduated from nursing school, and I am settled into my new career as an RN.

I want to have the opportunity to play more of the exclusives from Nintendo and Microsoft this coming generation, but until that happens I will be thoroughly enjoying both my PS4, and whatever straggler titles pop up on the PS3 late in its life cycle.

On the second point, if The Last of Us doesn't come away with GotY, then there is something very wrong with the brains of the people that bestow that honor.

If they screw up a no-brainer like TLoU and pick something else, then they should promptly donate said brains to science to find out what their major malfunction stemmed from. 🙂

This is a tough one. Its got the Last of Us to compete with.
But I'm keeping my mind open. I have a feeling we've barely even touched the surface of what GTAV truly is.

The Wii-U will be the Project X/Smash Bros console (just like the Wii was before it). Maybe some Mario games since my children will be old enough to play it during its life cycle. Everything else will be PS4.

I don't think there's much of a point to owning all consoles this time around. Most games are gonna be multiplat anyways. 360 hasn't impressed me at all for the past 3 years and neither does the first year promises of xbox one.

No… it -may- influence. And only when there are fence sitters. And people typically select somewhere in the middle in those cases.

The editor has a degree in psychology. I think he knows how polls work.
