When Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy XV launch date (September 30), they also dropped another mini-bomb: A new playable demo.
Dubbed the Platinum Demo, this one gave gamers a chance to play as young Noctis, when he explored a fantastical yet dangerous dreamworld. We could turn into a car, collect little yellow crystals, and even battle a fearsome boss.
And while many remarked the disappointing frame rate (something director Hajime Tabata says they're working to fix right now ), it appears most very much enjoyed the new sample. The majority of our readers said the demo was "awesome" and that they can't wait for the game to show up this fall. My take is that it was one of the most technically disappointing games I've played in years and it was 95 percent action and 5 percent role-playing but hey, if it sells, it sells. And as Square Enix has to consider offering more Ultimate Editions , it's clear that many are excited.
This week, will you be getting the Ratchet & Clank remake for PlayStation 4? After going gold , this fantastic re-imagining of the PS2 classic will be available on Tuesday, April 12. You up for it?

try again
Lot's of wishful thinkers and apologists here I've noticed, but hey you gotta back the horse you bet on.
I'm not going down with the ship this time, I took 2 dives with FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns. I'm not taking another dive until I see reviews.
Never cared for Ratchet and Clank, it was too kiddie for me when it released and stayed that way (Yes this is coming from a Ni No Kuni player ) 😉
i didnt want to be anywhere near ff13 again after i finished the first. the characters were annoying as hell and frustrating. cheeese look what SE has done to me with a franchise i used to be in love with.
as for r&c i didnt play any of the originals too much, my cousins did which i always saw them play and got involved every now and then (like you said it was kiddie) but i have no other games im playing atm except for dead star and i like occupying myself w diff games at the same time so i can go in between them if one frustrates me. oh, and ni no kuni was awesome!!
and you said try again? as in send another email?

yeah just in case he missed it
I felt let down by XIII, but actually kinda liked XIII-2
Awesome?, really this must be a new low for the FF fanboys.
That Platinum tech demo it's a fruit of something that as a decade in development and unfortunately looks and performs like a early PS3 game.
I can't take your comment seriously after you said it looks like a ps3 game…
I wouldn't say it looks like a PS3 game but it doesn't look as clean as it should given its now a PS4 game. The jaggies are everywhere and the texture quality is below my expectations. I really hope they fix these issues, along with providing a stable frame rate.
The battle system is encouraging though. Once I started to better understand how it works, fighting that Iron Giant is actually pretty fulfilling.
Yeah, fulfilling from an action standpoint. No RPG anywhere in that battle.
Lol It's less of a button mashing action system than kingdom hearts. Do you hate that game too?

Baloney it is. FFXV has a much more in-depth fighting system with guarding, countering, warping, combos, switching weapons in battle, etc. It's ACTION.
I think KH is similar and no, I don't hate KH. That franchise has never tried to be a full-blooded RPG and none of its fans expect that. This isn't a complicated notion.
Yeah, that definitely was an action game. The entire time I played, I though that I didn't want to play kingdom hearts in final fantasy. I barely saw final fantasy rpg elements. The game Just screams kingdom hearts although I believe kingdom hearts played better. I am severly disappointed with the demo. After I turned into a car, I quit and deleted the game. Also that collecting that yellow rocks thing, I seen that mostly in action games like enslaved. Thought what the he'll is this doing in a jrpg?
What disappointed me the most was that the games visuals weren't where it should be being this long in development. For 13 series, they may have lost final fantasy but at least the production value was still there. Sure it's a demo but why didn't they give us a better quality one knowing that it comes out this year? After hearing about them patching the previous demo, I don't think their priorities are in order and the game will be impacted negatively. As for me, the demo solidified my decision to skip the game. Tried to give it one last chance with the demo, they failed so final fantasy for me is dead. Well, died again.
No one said this was going to be a full blooded RPG, it started as an action RPG and it is releasing as an RPG.
I guess they made the mistake of making it a numbered entry in the series but still, it isn't like they lied about what the game would be.
We also don't know how important leveling up will be, items, spells, weapons, enemies with weapon and elemental weaknesses, whether the characters have passive abilities to equip and switch for different situations etc.
I've never been under the assumption that this was supposed to be a traditional Final Fantasy game. Were you guys? Perhaps that's the reason I'm not as disappointed as those of you who are unhappy with it
I was under the impression it was supposed to be an RPG.
At this rate, I fail to see how it even qualifies as an action/RPG. There's more of an emphasis on how you press buttons in FFXV than there is in some so-called action/adventure games. And less depth.
It's dumb. It's barely RPG Lite.
It does look like a PS3 game. Maybe not in those nice trailers. But Up close and personal in your living room it has all the nasties we left behind already. In fact I just played some Silent Hill 3 HD which is just an updated PS2 game and the character models aren't even that different between the Plat demo and that game.

So much hate for this game…
While it's battle system is clearly more action than traditional JRPG, the rest of the game could very well be more traditional with exploration, linewr story with sidequests.
For a game that started life as a action fighting spin off of FFXIII fpr PS3, FFXV looks decidedly more RPG than the original concept. Call me a heretic, but I've had to accept that there is almost zero appetite to use turn based mechanics in rpgs now, except small niche titles from developers like Gust. So I didn't expect otherwise with this, especially considering it's roots as a fighting game.
I think we need to stop and reethink what we want from RPGs now, especially JRPGs. Concepts like skill trees, and any kind of turn based mechanics areessentially gone from RPGs, so we need to examine other aspects of the game, art, style, story, exploration?, linear story? Open exploration of visited zones?…etc.
Many of the people who loved the demo are either Kingdom Hearts fans or people who have been waiting for this game for 10 years. Nothing wrong with that but they're looking at the game with a different set of lens than the classic final fantasy fan would.
Judging from what Game Informer has written about the game – I'm getting a very very very GTA/KH mix – with the world of FF.
This certainly ain't gonna be a regular FF – the last great one that stayed true to the franchise elements was FFX.
It's way too early to say that this won't be a great game though. So I'm looking forward to 09/30.
Well, you could argue that FFX-2 was the last. But in my eyes, FFXII stayed true to the fact that the series is supposed to be an RPG. It was a big departure from the previous games but it was the proper progression and evolvement of that particular genre, I believe.
FFXV isn't a departure. It's a different genre.
The Duscae demo was better for a lot of reasons. But I am encouraged about the battle system.
