Ubisoft has promised a slew of free and paid content for the future, but how big will Tom Clancy's The Division really be when it launches this week?
Well, is at least 26 missions enough?
As spotted by Forbes , it seems a Reddit data miner has managed to scare up the total number of missions we can expect out of the gate. This process took him 21 straight hours of tedious vigilance, by the way, so you better appreciate it.
Reddit user itsgamerdoc says the 26 missions he found are "pretty much all" of them; click through the link to check 'em out. Now, according to those who participated in the closed and open beta tests, a mission can take anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes to complete, so if we do the math, we can assume the core game only takes about 10-12 hours to finish. Of course, this depends on lots of things, such as your play speed and style, and whether or not later missions take a lot longer to complete.
Ubisoft has confirmed several times that the game won't have microtransactions , though gamers were a little scared when they heard the title would only feature Manhattan at launch . Some consumers were expecting more of New York's boroughs to start, but we should see more – including Brooklyn – as time goes on.
It's also interesting to note the "three-thread" narrative approach, which could prove awfully engaging. But are those 26 missions enough? Will you get an appropriate amount of play time with your friends out of those missions? Or do you want more for your $60?

Well if this is true, no its nowhere near enough. I hate to say it but regardless of how fun it might be this was my worry. Destiny all over again.
These large world online games should be filled with much more content. That's the point of them, at least I thought.

I have to strongly agree. A massive open world game with 26 missions is atrocious. I despise how developers assume customers want to replay the same missions over and over. GTAV has free updates and no form of paid dlc missions online, but here I must pony up for new areas and most likely copy and paste missions.
What a shame. As you said, Destiny all over again. Good business model, terrible fan service.
Yeah I hate Destiny's business model. Loved the game. I can't support that again.
But more importantly they showed a demo with many more areas that are now not part of the release version. That was my first worry. Then they said but the one area will have plenty to do. That was my second worry, because plenty to do by today's standard, focuses on replayability.
Now if this 26 missions is the max number right away, my concerns were validated. If it's a minimum and there's 30 missions, that's still not enough.

Now while I am a huge Destiny fan, the game ran it's course for me because there was nothing to do. I was not interested in replaying the Raids to level my character up.
I shouldn't be forced to play a certain game mode to rank up.
I guess that is why I am still playing Fallout 4.
Yeah exactly Max. Man I enjoy playing Destiny, in fact I love the game. I just kept doing the same stuff over and over and finally it got to the point where I couldn't get my buddies on to play. Unfortunately – as you know – we couldn't run three in the raids haha.
LOL – I didn't mind doing the quicker things to do like the Weekly stuff, but man, after running the Kings Fall Raid once, and not getting anything worthwhile I was near finished.
And then when the "hard" Raid came out as the only the means to maxing out, stick a fork in me man.
To be fair, until somebody out there actually finishes all of them, we can't really judge that number. 26 missions can be between 5 hours to 40 hours of play time for all we know. 45 minutes of average play time can actually span 1 to 1.5 hours for some 'casual' players too.
To be honest, however, I would (like to) reserve further judgement, but personally, I do tend to see 26 as a bleak number for "total" missions…
I hope they studied the 'competitor' enough to improve upon that sort of model, and not just mimic it.
Yeah its easy to get worked up over that number prior to even knowing.
In hindsight Destiny had what 5 planets to visit originally and about 5-6 story missions on each? That's 25 missions and it took me and my buddies less than 9 hours to beat. Not looking good for The Division if 26 missions is all they are offering.
Judging from the beta missions, 26 isn't enough. The main mission wasn't substantial enough. Doesn't sound good right now.
agree with you on this bread lover, and i also do understand the concerns of bigrailer19 on a Destiny all over again , but what i can say so far even for a beta i and with only 1 or 2 main missions i spent hours playing even in a partial city in the beta i was hooked . as for the ranking system i can say i am glad that unlike Destiny the are not forcing the multiplayer on the gamer to rank up so far as my experience goes with what i played.
i am excited to play .
The more i read on this game the more im glad i decide to pass on it this seems like Destiny but military style instead of in space. But this time im not falling for the hype like i did with Destiny
If it is 26 missions that is unacceptable. I don't plan on picking it up until i see more of what the game has to offer. The beta was fine but everything was just so minimal and i prefer more complex systems than what was observable.
since it seems like most of you are bashing this game before even trying it or based off things you heard or saw, ill keep yall updated once i get my hands on it.
yall should really consider gamefly, the games end up paying for themselves in the long run.
No one is bashing it yet. Open mindedness still exists. However if true, that's just not enough content for this type of game.

Well the beta did have a few side missions..so if those are in addition to the 26 then I'll be satisfied.
Yeah that would be nice to know.
