PSXE Poll Update: Everyone’s Runnin’ To Pre-Order The PS4

If you haven't pre-ordered the PlayStation 4 just yet, we advise you to hurry.

And that's because it seems like everyone has either already ordered the PS4, or they plan to do so soon. According to our latest poll, the majority say they've got their deposit on Sony's machine, while most others say they'll be pre-ordering "very soon."

Sony has already told GameStop to take an "unlimited number" of pre-orders, until Sony tells 'em to stop. We know there's a bit of a Dual Shock 4 pre-order shortage at this time, but production could ramp up before the year is out. There's no doubt that the PS4 is one of the hottest items on the planet right now, so Sony should have a very happy New Year if all goes well. Provided the systems aren't defective in some way, and provided Microsoft can't lure millions more toward the Xbox One, the PS4 appears to be in very good shape.

This week, now that Naughty Dog's masterful The Last Of Us is out, what do you think of it? You have played it by now, right? Is it indeed one of the very best games of all time, as the critics say? Or is it just plain overrated?

Let us know.

Made sure to be at GameStop as soon as it opened the day after E3 so I could pre-order the PS4, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Watch_Dogs and inFamous: Second Son. Now just need a release date to look forward to.

As for The Last of Us. I really can't think of any words to describe how much I love that game. I'll just say all the praise Naughty Dog has gotten is well deserved and not only is The Last of Us Game of the Year but Game of the Generation and cements Naughty Dog as the premier developer right now. Sony is very lucky to have them.

One of the best games ever made hands down. The only word to describe it is 'masterpiece'.

I also have not been able to see the poll for about a week. I did not vote in the last one cause I couldn't see it, and I don't see the new one either.

Weird, as soon as I mentioned it and posted that it showed up again. Too bad I probably won't finish the game before the poll is done.

i absolutely loved The Last of Us, i find the biggest criticism people have is that it didn't do anything brand new and innovative, but i find that was the point, they did what they know how to do and they did it exceptionally well

Yep Im one of many who pre-ordered my PS4. Cant wait to play Killzone!

When I first started The Last of Us I was instantly emotionally grabbed. ND instantly got me attached to each character and it was obvious from that point forqard I wanted to see where the excellent plot went and where it took the characters. Obviously the graphics are at the best this generation has offered, and the character dialogue is pure brilliance. The gameplay from the start was familiar (Uncharted) yet fresh by the introduction of some minor and other additional mechanics. All this I got from the first moments of the game. But there was a point, I have to be honest, I was worried if the game would be as dynamic as the story. The story is super powerful and the struggles for the characters (thanks to ND) is very surreal. But the gameplay didn't follow suit for a short bit. But as I progressed ND's brilliance has shown through and I now understand and this game has gone from awesome to easily one of the best games of all time in just 5 short hours at only 29% completion.

People can say it does nothing revolutionary or its nothing new but they have the blind folds on. What ND and their games do for gaming is revolutionary. The way they tell a story and create scenes, characters, and dialogue to mesh so well is revolutionary. Nothing is forced, its as if this isnt an act or even a script. Its unblievable. If a player cannot see that, they truly are missing out on why this game is being hailed as epic or the greatest. Because on top of super solid gameplay mechanics, superb sound, and everything that makes a great game, great, you have what I explained above (if I did it any justice!). This game does more than give the players control over a masterpiece. It puts the players feelings at risk of being overwhelmed.

Let me just say that if you want to experience something that you can seriously say is special in the gaming industry- and I mean this literally, among my many games I call great – you dont need to look any further than The Last of Us.

The Last of Us, as a whole, is not defined as a game. Its beyond that. It's an interactive drama and achieves a sort of medium and strikes an emotional chord that movies can't really do. The "Winter" chapter in particular is the perfect example of how movies and games are no longer leagues of quality apart.
Masterpiece? I think so.

I'm going to pre-order very soon. I would have already but I've been lazy. There are still some games I have for PS3, but they're more games I want to play as opposed to have to play.

As for The Last of Us, I have not played it yet. I know, I know, but I wont let myself buy a new game until I've finished the ones I have. So as soon as Bioshock is done i will get it.

I have it preorded. I'm super excited. I didn't think that I would actually be preordering a new console right away, but after the reveal I was hooked.

As for The Last of Us, I'm slowly playing through it right now because I do episodic episodes with commentary on youtube. A part of me wants to just blaze through it though and find out what happens because it's really damn good! Some of my friends have finished and really want to talk about with me, but they will have to wait ;P

No preorder for me, I'll let the first batch get the beta test. It's a damn good thing Sony was ready this time though.

I won't be able to vote in the poll just yet.

I was really fortunate: Futureshop.ca offered an online preorder option for 3 days following E3. Preorder 3 or more games and get $20 off each game. I preordered 6 games and my PS4 simultaneously. I saved $120 (+taxes) on games that I was going to buy anyway. Awesome offer!

Damn great game, but definitely not of all time. Many games have come along before with new ideas and game types. There have been better stories and gameplay in the history gaming. When I pick up a controller and say "I can't believe I'm doing this in a game." then it goes to the top. Shadow of the Colossus. Heavy Rain. Red Dead Redemption. Super Mario World. Bioshock. Resident Evil 4. Metal Gear Solid 3. Mass Effect 2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Chrono Trigger. God of War 2. These games are some of the defining games to me in terms of story, execution, and the ability to dream up a new idea and make it so. Not 'freak out'. The story, while great and very well executed, borrows liberally from standard zombie fare in comics, movies, and novels with a side helping of Leon: The Professional This is one of those games that for people who want games to be taken seriously, stands front and center. "Look! Look! See that? We can be mature and thoughtful, too." I actually read where someone wrote "Hollywood should take note." when it comes to The Last of Us. The gameplay itself is great, just a few niggling issues, which I've already addressed elsewhere, are there that keep it from being the best I've ever experienced.

I don't know how Activision can look at their game at the end of the day and say, "good work guys, good work. Best game ever right here", when games like The Last Of Us are creating such masterful experiences. It's games like Call Of Duty that holds back games in general. No one wants to risk it therefore try to mimic CoD. We need to see more quality games like The Last Of Us and games like CoD need to be eliminated. Who are you kiddin' Activision? "Fish move out of the way"? They been doing that since like… for ever. That's what happens when you don't push yourselves as developers, when you don't exercise your games to try and create something that isn't the same thing over and over, you get crap. Hopefully people see what a load of BS CoD is next gen.

I see where you're coming from but I don't think that's entirely fair. Games like CoD and The Last of Us are striving for very different experiences. The Last of Us IS going for something new. CoD on the other hand, is at this point, "glorified map packs" if you will. I don't want them messing with the formula too much, as I wouldn't want the game of football to totally change either. I look at each new iteration of CoD as almost like a roster update for a game like Madden. Give me more of the same with new things to play with. I believe there can be room for both. But I will say that I hope CoD clones get eliminated next gen.
If games like CoD are holding back the industry, I think it's because it sold so well too many people are trying to imitate it, not just because many people look at it as a horrible game itself.

Edit: Sorry meant that as a reply to Killa Tequilla.

its about bloody time we got new systems, i just hope there ready and are not going to be rushed like the wiiu.
that released and had so many "launch" features suddenly become launch window features.
the OS was so slow you felt like you were tapping into a networked PC 10 countries away!
and, well, where are all the games?
at least reliability is not a issue, but besides that its hard to imagine a worse launch for a system!
i just hope the ps4 and xbox one dont suffer the same start.

as for the last of us, greatest experience ever made but not greatest game.
not even greatest game of the year, well, so far.
its so unique and different, and tells such a touching beautiful story in a beautiful but at the same time disgusting world.
but is brought down by the same old crap that ND blindly refuses to address game after game after game after game after game!
amazing how you can shove your finger in the light socket so many times, and STILL not learn!
well, i guess at least we know now why their called naughty dog………

" Provided the systems aren't defective in some way "

Gonna take a longer warranty if i can for sure .Just to be sure .

As for The last of us , ya i think it s overrated but in no way bad , it s actually pretty good but the replay value is pretty low since it s slow as hell ( first time that was no problem ).

I hear you on the replay value, actually. It was such an awesome experience playing through it the first time but I know doing it a second time won't be nearly as incredible. I'll probably wait a while before I play through it again front to back, though I'm showing my girlfriend that first hour as soon as I can this week 🙂

Pre-ordered mine about five minutes after Sony's press conference ended! What a great holiday gaming season this will be, it's always so fun to get a new console. And the new PLAYSTATION, no less! I look forward to seeing what the full launch lineup of games looks like. The new Killzone looks like a great way to see what the system can do graphically, and Watch Dogs looks like it could be a real stunner as well.

As for the Last of Us, yep, one of the greatest games I've ever played. It's probably the greatest game narrative I've ever experienced. It is now the gold standard for interactive storytelling, as far as I'm concerned. I cried at least twice 🙂

I pre-ordered my PS4 the morning after E3, and at the time GameStop was only allowing a few more pre-orders, but apparently now the "floodgates are open for unlimited pre-orders".

How that will work out for everyone that pre-orders during the current reserve window is not too clear just yet, but I'm sure glad I got mine in during the original limited reserve quantity.

On the other topic, The Last of Us is a game that to me is even MORE amazing than most critics give it credit being.

Yeah, there's lots of perfect scores, but there are just as many people out there that tried their hardest to nitpick every little flaw and annoyance.

Take for instance: http://www.polygon.com/game/the-last-of-us/3040

I know that Phil Kollar has a right to his own personal opinion when making reviews, but in my estimation he is still a moron.

A 7.5 out of 10 Phil, really?

Stop just looking at games, and start EXPERIENCING them.

I'm normally not an early adopter type, but since I was willing to spend $300 on a new PS3 to keep OtherOS on my old PS3, $400 for the new PS4 doesn't seem bad.
