When it was announced that Oculus Rift would cost $600, we wondered if that higher-than-anticipated price gave PlayStation VR the edge , as Sony's device might be as low as $400.
But in defending the price of Rift, creator Palmer Luckey said the two virtual reality devices are targeting different markets. He also told the IB Times that PlayStation VR simply isn't quite as capable as Oculus Rift:
"I think that there's not many people who already own a PS4 who don't own a gaming PC who are going to go out and make that roughly $1,500 all-in investment in the Rift. It really is a separate market. They're bringing virtual reality to a different group of people who I don't think were ever really a part of our market anyway.
It's also worth noting that their headset isn't quite as high-end as ours–it's still, I think, a good headset–and the PlayStation 4 is not nearly as powerful as our recommended spec for a PC."
In point of fact, the PlayStation 4 by itself isn't capable enough to handle Sony's new VR device, as it will come with an external processor rumored to be "about the size of a Wii." Also, Luckey noted that Sony is definitely trying to produce "a lot of VR games," which boss man Kaz Hirai recently reiterated: He said over 100 titles are currently in development .
No matter what, price will play a very large role in the VR battle this year. We'll have to see if the estimated sales for each device are accurate; the report says PlayStation VR should sell about 1.9 million in 2016.
Yet I'm willing to bet because of Sonys software developers the best content will belong to Sony and the VR headset.
All he's trying to do here is justify the price.
I reckon so sir as well
If the reviews and feedback on PS VR will turn out to be great once it comes out, I'll most likely buy myself a PS VR. ^_^
The real "RIFT" with the Oculus is that all the PSR needs to do is work great as intended with those upcoming PS4 games & Sony's got themselves a big winner……..
no matter what those at Oculus want to say or think.

I'll tell you which one is better if I ever win the lottery.
Ha, you & me both!
"Come on $500 Milion+ Powerball, come to daddy"!!
OOPS, it's now an 800+ million dollar Powerball
If he's simply talking about specs he has no idea what he's talking about. We all know for years, pc looks better on paper. Name one pc game that can look as good as any ps4 exclusive, with the ps4 specs. None. Don't get me started with ps3 specs lol.
It's like my friend showing off his Android phone specs and my iPhone with half the specs but performs as well, if not better.
It's all about optimization. He didn't even regard the separate processing unit the ps4 VR will have.
The dev kit costs about 350$, so to make some profit, they could maybe do away with 500$, so if you're a pc gamer, just wait till the ps vr releases and the rift will probably drop not too long after. Right now there's no competition.
True, but optimization only gets you so far. It's a significant step between the graphics chipsets of the PS4 and a GTX970 who is the minimum requirement for the Oculus.
This is why the Sony VR sports a lower resolution, and I'm pretty sure other shortcuts are made as well in order to get it to work.
But imo, that doesn't matter as long as the end result is good. And I'm pretty confident it will.

Minimum requirement for the PC, yes. Console requirements is different. Optimization can only go so far, but it does go pretty far. Again, the GTX 970 is about 350 bucks itself. That's more expensive than a ps4 already. So really with the ps4 hardware and specs that costs less than 300$ to make now, do you think a PC can run games as good looking as the ps4 now, or the future? That said, don't forget to take account the extra processing unit. So, it shouldn't be a mystery of how Sony can pull this off right.
Sure it'll run in a lower resolution, but to me that doesn't necessarily translate to a totally inferior experience, especially if we're talking about graphics.
In a interview with one of the lead devs, they state that early VR games will improve over time, without having to upgrade like PC would have to do every 2 or so years. So just like the console itself, the VR will eventually catch up if it's inferior in the beginning.
That sounds like fear to me.
I wonder how old this guy is cause to me, it…….
Smells like teen spirit
I think he's absolutely right in all he says. I can't imagine many console owners who don't already own a gaming rig will go out and purchase a high-end PC for this when there's something similar available for the PS4.
Also, I hear that the PS4 gear are very comfortable and well designed – they simply feels good. That too matter for the perception of a product. And knowing Sony they may very well have come up with a clever solution to the lesser resolution.
You gotta come around more Beam
To most consumers they will all look relatively similar. Not to mention that most consumers don't stay up to date with technology [news] in greater detail.
If parents are buying the oculus for their children and if their PC is not good enough best believe they will be taken back to the store and exchanged for something else or their money back.
Before I go, VR porn is already a reality. Look up the news if you're interested (and I know you will lol)
Naughty America had a booth at the CES and they allowed one of the CNET guys to film his reaction of watching some mild porn while using the Oculus Rift.
The Naughty America guy said that they already had some VR sex stuff already made & done last July.
BTW, I put the link to that interview in that VR sex thread, if anyone wants to go back & check it out.
The Oculust Rift costs $1600! I wonder if the warranty is for at least 2 years since it will be a disappointment to have a $1600 brick in just a couple of months.
