In case you haven't been paying attention, here's a brief history:
We find out that Western markets aren't getting the controversial Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 and some believe it's because feminists and women's rights groups would try to lynch the publisher.
Then, that publisher – Koei Tecmo – issues a very diplomatic yet uninformative official statement, explaining why the game isn't coming out in North America or Europe. After, I just say I wanna play volleyball . And I do. It's fun.
But now, I'm starting to wonder if the gaming industry still has an unhealthy obsession with sex in general. As noted by DualShockers , the second trailer for DoAX3 has now crossed one million views on YouTube, making it the most-watched Koei Tecmo trailer ever . Yep, it just beat out the previous record-holder, Zelda: Hyrule Warriors , the only other trailer posted by the publisher to break the million mark.
Now, I know everyone's watching mostly because the game continues to get headlines. But if you really think about it, it's easy to get any gamer's attention if you simply put the word "nude" or something similar in a headline. If I posted up a headline that said "Here, Naked Pics of 'Insert Game Character Here'" it would be huge. It would undoubtedly hit #1 at N4G. It would get all sorts of attention on Google. Yeah, porn dominates the Internet, anyway, but it seems especially fascinating to gamers. …maybe a little too fascinating.
As much as I hate to say it, perhaps the publisher is right not to release the game here. Maybe we really do need to give gamers a reason to go outside and interact with real humans.
Related Game(s): Dead or Alive Xtreme 3
As a biker, I've been to many "show us your tits" & wet t-shirt contests at numerous biker shows, with some being tiny-tiny's, some flattened 2-fried eggs, some perfectly shaped, some sagging down to the belly button, & a silicone set of 60 triple-F monstrosity's(that came with a certification by the U.S. Coast Guard as genuine flotation devices).
So I certainly don't see anything wrong with these clothing clad cuties, although their chests seem a bit unrealistic but not too overdone.
Just not my type of game(being sports related)

Amen. Americas afeared of boobs is sad.
Hell, we had most gals walking around topless all over the chopper shows & other biker events.
And we never gave them more than a thought or two, except to check their hooters out for a few extended seconds, or a bit longer if both the woman & her breasts were of the exceptionally fine type.

Hey man I went to Sturgis a lot I know 🙂
Seems like a fairly simple combination of factors to me. The majority of core gamers, the type that actually follows these kinds of news, are males. The lack of release is getting a lot of attention. And, asexual people aside, everyone is obsessed with sex, we're biologically wired to think about it all the time. It's not like it's hard to find the characters actually nude if that's all they wanted anyways.
You make it sound like every single person interested in DOAx3 is a straight single male.
*DoAX3 Fascination Suggests Gamers Are Indeed Obsessed?*
The way you say this is troubling and if you really categorise like this it means you might be part of the problem.
Men like women. Sex is the biggest industry of all. Some men are also gamers. Being a man is the problem here not being a gamer.
We need to fix this view of people that are trying to just point at any random thing trying to find problems. Open your eyes and look at the big scope of things. The real problem is that for some twisted hypocrite reason, everything we do or look at in games is ok. It's just a game. We kill, we steal, we fly, we explore. We do things we can't do. It's a way to relieve stress and also let's you experience things you normally won't. But now for some reason all of it is still ok BUT when it comes to a sexy girl OH OH OH this ain't a game no more son! This is a sexist piece of trash that objectifies women! That thing is way past first degree murder! Someone stop that studio from publishing! Women and PC police get your tanks and nuke the hell out of this publisher!!!
lol… It really is sad. There are sexy guys with muscles or awesome guys like in FF. They are over the top. They are way too powerful and charismatic. As a gamer guys, we don't feel objectified. We look up to them. We want to be that charismatic and powerful guy while those other people who are not really gamers and don't really enjoy gaming will try to find ways to get attention. They want to be victimised. They like the feeling of being supported. They don't really enjoy gaming. They enjoy the attention. They will ignore everything else. They will create a problem even if it's fictive. This is the cancer of gaming and free speech. We need to do something about that XD
And I am not saying all girls in games need to be sexy over the top. Just that it's ok to have some games about sexy girls. It's a category. We need to accept that and grow up.

I'm sure some SJW nutjob will come along to attack your comment. But you're 100% spot on.
Neo_Aeon666,
"10" THUMBS UP!!!!!!!!!
The fact that so many games are still focused on killing, or violence in general, is absolutely a problem. It's not an excuse for objectifying women. You can't use bad behavior to excuse other bad behavior. We have all these amazing, talented developers who have amazing, powerful technology to tell any kind of story they want, and still most stories revolve around killing someone. IMO that sucks.
There is also a huge difference between the kind of wish fulfillment and power fantasies that come from playing as strong male characters, and the hypersexualization of women in games, who are often little more than trophies to be won, or objects to literally be gawked at, as is the case of the DOAX games.
A game like this absolutely objectifies women, and promoting unrealistic images of men has negative consequences over time as well, it just doesn't manifest itself the same way negative self-image issues arise for women. (on average) Which is more widely understood.
But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a game like this. I'm just saying you need to be ok with that. (Which I am, personally) You need to have boundaries with something like this. For example, I would never promote and play it in front of my daughter (if I had a daughter) for example. There's a place for this sort of thing. My wife isn't threatened by it nor does it give her any self-image issues because she's confident, and frankly, beautiful in her own right anyways. We both got a kick and a laugh out of DOA5. So no, I don't think this kind of game is "wrong" at all.
But I also don't think pretending it doesn't carry risk with the wrong demographic isn't right either. Don't pretend these issues don't exist. That's counterproductive. Instead, try to come to terms with what allows it to be "responsible" use, if you will.

The biggest issue here is the cultural difference. If your local jiffy mart had a vending machine for used women panties, would you think that is a bit much? Japanese, or maybe even east Asian culture in general, is a bit off by western standards. However there are things we have in our culture that they deem undesirable, our work culture/environment is an example.
The best thing is that this is a game that is viewed normal over there and so they publish it there. No need to bring it over here where it wont be the seller they have in Japan. You want it, import it. Easy peasy.
pretend killing and women aren't bad behavior bio.
All the women who have a problem with being objectified disagree with you, World, and on the subject of the objectification of women, their opinion carries a little more weight.
Videogames' obsession with murder is absolutely a problem, both on a sociological and creative level, but more so on the creative level, since you can only find so many ways to shoot bad guys in the head, and it's an enormous waste of talent to have gifted developers like DICE dedicating so much time to it, when the industry as a whole probably could, and should, have moved on years ago.
Eh… context matters, too, though. How many games can you say are actually about Murder in a way that promotes it in a way that is sociologically damaging to the audience it is intended for? GTA? That's about the only one I can think of that often has no context, just mindless murder.
There's GTA, which is no small franchise. GTA V alone has sold almost 60 million copies, and the franchise is easily the most culturally influential of all time.
There's also Saints Row, the Mafia games, Red Dead Redemption, Driver, The Godfather, Scarface: The World is Yours, Postal, State of Emergency, and probably more than I'm forgetting within that specific genre.
You have plenty of 'morality' games that let you be a super evil fuck if you really want to, and make it alluring to do so, like most Bioware games, Fable, InFamous, etc.
There also exist plenty of games with ambiguous at best context, such as the Bioshock series.
I don't think any of these games inspire otherwise ordinary people to go out and shoot someone, but they don't have to turn you into a murderer to have a negative impact. Even using the moral justification of war seems like a flimsy excuse for a lot of violence in games. Just because a sovereign state is sanctioning mass murder doesn't mean it's a noble cause.
Like I said, though, the bigger issue is creativity. I can't be the only one who's getting a bit weary of the fact that most games focus on killing somebody/something.
I know im sex-obsessed. I'm a male with an ocean of testosterone flowing through my veins. Guess what I like and am on a constant desire for? Doritos and Fanta?
And as someone who does have a girlfriend of a few years, and does socialize with more than just a few people I can honestly say my hype for this is based solely on the fact I get to play a game about cute girls having fun on a beach.
Not some crappy Star Wars game that makes you wish it came with a pistol so you can blow your brains out when you play it for more than an hour.
I guess anyone who's not obsessed with sex isn't a MAN.
Guess what?
Women want sex as much as men. They're just not as dumb as us. 😉
There is a game called Honey Pop on steam. Sounds like your kind of game. Although it plays like Tetris according to the pictures/videos.
Word. The idea that celebrating sexuality with oversexuality is more disturbing than sexy time with the DOA girls.
I love boobs and butts, and also 3D chicks with amazing bodies that even supermodels would be jealous of.
No, I'm not crazy or obsessive, I'm just a young and healthy normal guy.
If you're gonna suggest that gamers do need to get a life and interact with others, then the same goes for porn viewers.
Instead of watching porn, why not get a girlfriend and stop watching porn altogether?

Kinda telling that you equate ogling virtual women to viewing pornography.
I have found that a healthy sexual relationship does indeed eliminate a desire to watch porn.
A health sexual relationship eliminates a desire to watch porn? Not entirely.
All of my guy friends are in relationships and they all watch porn as well as their girlfriends. Heck, me and my girl watch porn together >_>
See? Everyone's different and its up to the gamer to pick which content is "okay" not the freakout police Tecmo listens to.
We tried watching it together… we pretty quickly forget it's even there. Doesn't seem worth it.
Although the story lines are fascinating.
The assumption that Tecmo isn't releasing it here because of "freakout police" is pretty silly. They're not releasing it here because the games never sell here.
And, really, shouldn't it be up to TECMO to decide which games TECMO releases, and where?
There is nothing wrong with this game having more than one million views. I am surprised it doesn't have more.
A game like this is actually part of the minority and that's one of the reasons it has so many views. I don't care what statistics are provided to me, most of the gamers are males and would be interested in at least watching a trailer like this.
and playing the game probably too.
This is for when you need to interact with yourself! Anyway, there should should be more sexy time in games not less. There's less in games than other media. I'd bring on that lynch mob and make a ton of dough.
I'll be enjoying my bouncing volleyballs in under 2 months!
As a longtime Old School Biker, I've only got one more thing to say……..
"F*ck censorship"
