PS4 #1 Pre-Order Game Item At Amazon, GameStop Resupplies

After Sony and Microsoft priced their new game consoles at E3 this week, retailers immediately began taking pre-orders.

And unsurprisingly, based on what everyone has seen, the PlayStation 4 is #1 at Amazon , while the Xbox One is #2. We wish we had actual numbers, though.

As for GameStop, several sources said their website reported that PS4 pre-orders were sold out within the first few hours, after which the retailer was forced to restock. Several local stores around here have said they can't take any more pre-orders for a little while, while all of those stores said they still had Xbox One pre-orders available. I always find it interesting that seconds after they say, "no, sorry, no PS4 pre-orders left," they immediately launch into the, "oh, but you can pre-order the Xbox One!" spiel.

Yeah, well, we all know there's a reason why anything Microsoft is more prominently featured in any GameStop we walk into, right? I once had a GameStop register biscuit tell me Uncharted was coming to Xbox and it would "look better" when it did, too. …can't believe he said it with a straight face. I was actually waiting for him to laugh.

Not surprising, not surprising at all.

I want to pre-order, but I am unsure. I will definitely get a PS4 sometime, though.

Proud to know that my pre-order was one of many that got it there : )

After I read that Gamestop was starting to sell out on preorders I was expecting to be far down the list. But they said they had 24 and I was number 2 in line! And the wife approves!!! I'm set.

We'll see how Gamestop feels when their used game market gets the bottom ripped out by MS.

Gotta tell ya, I feel a little left out not being a day 1 guy but sadly there's nothing in the games I need on day 1.

Good for SONY! GameStop – yeah. I'm tired of them, but where else is good to get used games? BestBuy?

I'll be getting my PS4 some time on 2014 – or whenever I can play a Borderlands game on it (I'm looking at you, Gaikai!).

Amazon is good too. Gamefly has sweet sales from time to time as well. I seriously haven't purchased a thing from gamestop in the past 4-5 years. Proud of that too!

Quick question. Is it possible to run out of preorders? If so then I need to preorder my Wii U lol jk (PS4)

I'm excited for the ps4, but I'm waiting to see a release day game that I just can't wait for. If second son was available day one, I'd be all over it, especially if they bundled it.
I'm not into fps and I haven't seen much else available for day one.

Agreed, pretty weak launch lineup if you ask me.

Compared to past PlayStation launch lineups, I think it's by far the best one we've seen. Don't forget about the AAA multiplats that will be available alongside Killzone, DriveClub and Knack; there will be Assassin's Creed IV, Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4, etc.

Launch lineups are usually pretty anemic. I can't remember the last time so many huge titles were available for the release of new hardware. That's because this is the first time so many AAA titles are going cross-gen right off the bat.

yeah it's not a big drawback or anything, seems on par with the others. We know Sony will eventually bring the games.

Yeah I'm not saying it's bad or anything, I'm interested in Knack, but most of the other stuff just isn't my thing.
Like I said, don't care for FPS and I've been getting most of my multiplats on pc. I prefer the PS controller, but I prefer the pc pricing. Tend to be cheaper a lot faster and it allows for modding.

Basically for me to get it at launch, I'm going to need either a sweet looking rpg or 3rd person stealth game that's exclusive.

Wish I had the financial confidence to pre-order now, but it will have to wait until things are more stable for me.

Damn, I used to be on your end. After starting to work though I did a 180. I'm financially secure but have no time for games 🙁

Last night, I just presented my little bro with a backlog of 20+ games still in shrink wrap not to mention the few open that I still have yet to finish because he was looking for something new to play. On top of that, the last of us comes out this Friday. I think its safe to say that I can wait for a price drop for the PS4 just from wanting to enjoy what I already have.

Seriously?

Ok, I hate Gamestop a great deal and agree that most of the employees are Xbox biased but I think this article is a little unfair. The two consoles are (arguably) substitutes. So if they sold out of pre-orders for one of them its only natural they would bring attention to the other one.

I'm not bringing into speculation any less than honorable practices which GS has shown plenty of in the past. I'm merely taking it for face value. It would just be dumb business to not sell as much as you can of something.

Then why not try to sell him a Wii U?

laxpro2001
laxpro2001

Ehh… I see your point, but the fact that they are trying to preorder a next gen console makes the Wii U a little more of a jump. Wii U is not next gen IMO. Its kind of like a halfway point between this and next. That's a purely subjective PoV and is no way based on anything such as hardware.

It would be interesting if GS sold out of Xbox pre-orders to see if they recommend a Wii U as an alternative. I doubt they would.

Kryten1029a

Lax,
I wouldn't agree that the two are substitutes at all, even arguably. One is sharply restrictive of used games and inter-personal loans (which won't we permitted at launch anyway), it scuttles rentals and if you're without internet for more than 24 hours then you have an expensive doorstop on your hands. The other one is a PS4.
If these folks at Gamestop have been following the news online at all then they're aware of the controversy and they're either paranoid about losing the sale or are so enamored of Microsoft that they'll push the box regardless. It's not a matter of pushing a roughly equivalent device or they would at least suggest the Wii U as an alternative. In a few weeks when I've got the money together, then I'll be putting in my pre-order and that'll be a short conversation. If I can't have it on launch day, then I'll take the first available one that they can get me.

I just checked Amazon and got the currently unavailable. The release date just says Dec 31 2013. If I'm around when ever it does release I think I would rather show up at the store in the morning to make it more of an authentic experience.

On Play dot com the PS4 pre order is currently at #6 on the gaming sales chart list, while Xbox One is at… #15.

Preordered the PS4 at amazon, ten minutes before they even sent out the email saying it was available for preorder.

This is a great sign of strong consumer interest. I hope Sony would be able to meet the demand for the PS4, just to avoid people from jumping ship to the other console.

I think I might wait for Infamous SS just to see if they do a bundle. PS4 bundled with Second Son is my big ps4 dream right now.

Hands on reports of KZ claim it's like Killzone meeting Crysis. It's more open and tactical and quite impressive. This makes me quite pleased.

Dont you think Sony will be checking the major retailers if they havent already. Seems to me it would be the prudent thing to do.

More powerful hardware, a better price and a stance towards DRM that respects the rights of the customer? What's the appeal?

Pre-ordered mine from amazon immediately after the Sony conference. Landed me a launch edition! If I heard the same dribble from Sony that I heard from Microsoft I was going to buy a Wii U right after the conference. Thank god, they didn't give me the same BS. I'll be picking up Drive Club, Killzone, and Knack to go with my new toy at launch.

What the hell is a launch edition?

Evil Incarnate
Evil Incarnate

The launch edition is a basic PS4 but Amazon lets you get release day shipping if desired and you're guaranteed to get one from the first launch batch. The ones for pre-order now have no set shipping dates because Amazon does not know when they can fill the orders.

Is it out of the question to think a Euro PS4 would function in North America?

It would definitely function for games.

The games are region-free, but you wouldn't be able to play BluRay movies, or DVD's from the US though.

I noticed Battlefield 4 for the PS4 has a release date of October 29, 2013. Hopefully that means the PS4 will be released by then.

Yeah and Assassins Creed IV is October 31, for all versions of the game. I even emailed Ubi Support and asked them if this date was correct, and they said it was.

I love how over-entheusiastic EB Games are in Australia. It's funny too, because EB Games here are owned by Gamestop from the US. But Gamestop waited till the price was released to take pre-orders, while Eb Games started from the second they were announced.

Luckily I was one of the first at my local EB.

Went to Gamestop today to place my pre-order for the PS4, I like being able to put 100 down and pay it off over the next couple of months. The group there tend to be xbox fanboys as most of them are here in Washington State (home of microsoft) and the guy was straight up honest that he was shocked as hell that the PS4 was roughly outselling the Xbone 2 to 1…told him I wasn't shocked, as a consumer and a mom, access to used games are a must in our family.
