Ben-DutkaUncharted without Nathan Drake? Inconceivable!
Developer Naughty Dog has a hard time picturing the popular franchise without its iconic front-man, too.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End writer Josh Scherr tells OPM UK (as cited by PSU ) that in fact, it'd be difficult to imagine a new Uncharted adventure without the beloved protagonist:
"I think one thing that's been great about this series is that we have created this…I hate to use the word universe because Marvel's been overusing it, but we've created this world where ancient civilizations remain undiscovered and lots of charismatic and unscrupulous treasure hunters exist to go and pursue these. I suppose you could tell a story in that world without Nathan Drake, but it's…in some ways it's a little bit hard to imagine."
Earlier this year, Uncharted 4 director Neil Druckmann Tweeted that E3 2015 would be Nathan Drake's last , which of course prompted much feedback and discussion. But it's certainly true that the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive will be the final entry in the critically acclaimed franchise (at least, the final entry for this particular story arc) so we'll have to see where Naughty Dog goes from here.
But yeah, it'll be tough to adapt without Drake.

After 4 they should just let it go, and do something else.
I agree if Nate isn't around. They've already moved on with TLoU. It's been a long while since U3. ND is doing well spreading things out.
However I don't want them to just leave the series behind. It's my fav.
Use Drakes potential son and or brother (if he does not die) to continue the series.
Drake can just be a mentor to the new protagonist just like Sully was to him. Drake doesn't need to be in the spot light anymore. Then again I'm not sure if A thief's end shouldn't just be the last Uncharted. I feel the series has done its job.
He can mentor me right into Chloe's pants Son 🙂
Uncharted wouldn't be Uncharted without the main characters like Nate, Sully, Elena & Chloe… Without them it just wouldn't be an Uncharted game anymore, but just some other new game from ND.
I hope they go back with a new entry after 4, but it has to at least follow the same story, if for whatever reason Nathan is no longer doing treasure hunting after game 4… maybe have him be more in the background, while having his brother/son take over as main character… but hopefully Nate realizes mid-game he just can't stay away and comes back to join the gang!
Smart guy here… Drake can't dissappear from the series.
They need to move on like they did with the Crash and Jak series, despite all the lunatic fanboys that have persisted about continuing THOSE for over a decade.
I think the sales of 4 on this new hardware and now with most of the Xbox 360 fans over on the side of the Jedis (ours) Sony will look at how much it rakes in and then decide if the franchise should go forward.
Either way I see Naughty Dog consulting but not getting stuck in Uncharted forever.
