Well, that was the original plan, at any rate.
Newly released court documents posted by GamesBeat reveal that Bungie and Activision had – and probably still have – big plans for future Destiny releases.
According to the papers, they intended to release a new disc-based installment every other year through 2019. This would have been followed by the game's "largest downloadable content product" in 2020. Thing is, the plan may have shifted as a big expansion called The Taken King arrives this month and we haven't heard of a true sequel just yet. It's also important to note that these papers were based on the game's original date of September 2013. Still, Activision has said from the start that Destiny has a "10-year lifespan."
If you recall, we just learned that the game was significantly delayed so the team could make "substantial revisions" to the story. A lot obviously changed so perhaps this plan of sequels every other year has changed as well.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Who in fact is going to play Destiny for 10 years or revisit after X number of years? Just curious.
Depends how good the future expansions/sequels are. I'm holding out on The Taken King for now because I don't think an expansion should cost $40 after spending 60 on the game and 35 on the season pass.
Especially one that's not much bigger than previous dlc.
i may follow if its worth playing. im waiting to see how TTK is so i can judge the future of this game and my wallet.
Reading up on the details of the lawsuit between O'Donnell and Bungie that were recently released, revealing the sequel plans, gives the not-at-all surprising view that Activision is currently in the process of destroying another awesome studio with bullshit.
Gimme gimme gimme more Destiny.
Cant wait til next week!
